I think if they'd made a 33" SR bass they'd have been on to a winner here. Folks tend to look to the Soundgear range as a nice full scale yet compact solution, so a 33" would've been real nice and the shorter scale would've balanced well with the shape.
100% with you mate. The SR would have been a killer bass in a 33" E-C!
Prices coming in at about £680 although not seen one in the flesh yet. Seems to be a pre-order item in most UK outlets currently.
680 quid is not bad, but I wish they had gone for the Nordstrand pups instead of the Bartolini ones in this model.

Hi y'all, I saw a post here regarding the '15 NAMM and Ibanez's new BTB Volo bass, which is their own take on the 33" Fodera thingy strung E-C. http://www.ibanez.co.jp/usa/news/f_products/2014/workshop/volo.html Has anybody been able to try one out yet? Any prices? I am not into the BTB shape, the horns a too big for my taste but the 33" makes it look a little better than the normal 35" BTB's that are around. And to be honest, it may be the cheapeast 33" E-C bass around. Ibanez has been trying out some cool stuff over the past years at very decent prices (Fretted/Fretless hybrid, Fanned Frets, Kaoss SR bass...). Cheers! Byron.
Yep, there are a couple of running threads on Talkbass and many people want a cheaper solution, but the supply/demand equation seemingly works against that. So naturally, I just built my own. The first used a plate amp similar to the Bag End amp that sifi2112 mentioned -- still more money than just buying any number of bass amps and using only the power amp part, and only a little smaller than a rack mounted pro sound amp. It ended up living in a standard rack anyway, LOL. I am currently finishing up this newer one, which does 700 watts at 4 ohms and weighs about 7 lbs: This will fit side-by-side in a standard rack with a similar sized preamp, or can be stacked on top of smaller cabs, like so: Frankly, I just don't see the market demand being high enough to get the cost down far enough to make business sense, but as DIY'ers can get away without certifications and warranty obligations (at least here), it didn't work out too badly for me.
That looks amazing! Nice setup too! What is the preamp by the way? Never seen it before but looks supah cool. I guess that I will stick to using my Markbass Little Rocker 500 power section as it makes no sense to spend so much £££ on a power amp. Really interested on your class-D DIY amp, did you use any specific schematics? Cheers!

Thanks Passinwind, already saw those but they are way out of budget! Lol. I am totally with you Nancy, there are some really cool pedals and pre's that give you all you need and sound fab through the PA when DI'd (Reddi, U5, Tonehammer, Bassbone...) I guess that the Momark series from Markbass can be set for a Preamp module, blank EQ and a Master section. But the size is comparable to other solid-state heads around there and defeats the purpose of a small (Amplite-sized) amp.

Hi all, Just wondering if, as I have not found much on the net, there are any small and portable class D amps similiar in format to the SWR Amplite. All I seem to find are 1-2 space rack PA amps. I am tinkering with the idea of going for the BAER tube DI thru a class D into a portable cab (Barefaced 2x10's possibly), but knowing me, I will end up going back to my Markbass Little Rocker 500. If anyone knows about a class D similar in format and size to the Amplite, let me know!

Hi all, Not sure if it has been mentioned already at BC, but the new Baer VTI tube DI looks really nice: http://www.baeramplification.com/vti-direct-box.html http://bassmusicianmagazine.com/2015/01/baer-amplification-introduces-vti-tube-direct-box/ And also some insight from the Baer thread over at Talkbass last year: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/baer-amplification-megathread.819546/page-256 Roger Baer did not disclose the price but he puts in between the Avalon U5 and the REDDI (big gap!). I think it looks pretty sweet and a good option instead of the REDDI, as you can send the processed bass signal to your amp too (or bypass), something that the REDDI unfortunately does not. Cheers! Byron.

You could always get a 1-spot (US version) from a Guitar Centre store or similar once in the USA. But for 3 pedals, batteries are a good option too if you are not sure that your power supply can switch to 110v.

The Beta drive may be what you are looking for, it is certainly deep.

Overdrive: Beta vs Darklighter vs Vintage Microtubes vs Agro
Agreed. You can read all the reviews on the web, watch all the you tube video, but you won't know how any gear sounds objectively until you plug it into your set up. You have to start somewhere so pick a pedal from your list and try it out for yourself. It is a journey of discovery. And it's fun

If you're considering the Beta, check out the Beaefoot Blueberry too (similar but ten times better if you ask me!). Pedals respond in very different ways to different players and basses (and ears!), so expect a long journey ahead of trying different things out you see what works for you!
Totally agree. I have bought gear in the past based on Youtube and reviews and not everything worked for me. Your ears will be the only ones who will tell you what works with your setup. The Xotic BB Preamp is a killer pedal and it may be a great starting point. Good luck! -
I didn't think it sounded that great in the online demos on Youtube, the octave sounded quite warbly. An average overdrive with a sub-par octaver in a cool-looking box, if you ask me!
I am with you Dannybuoy, it did warble a bit too much for me. Octave wise, my personal favourite is still the EBS Octabass as I like that polished/rubbery sound that it has and it seems to track amazingly well when I play it.

Lovely looking rig you got there!

Overdrive: Beta vs Darklighter vs Vintage Microtubes vs Agro

Without you telling us the tone or sound you are going for, it is hard to suggest what would be best for you. The Beta is a great pedal if you are looking for a nice Soul/bassy sound (Ampeg B-15 comes into mind), but the bass boost might be a problem for your Streamliner as the amp is on the darker side of things. I personally went for a COG Knightfall after Tom suggested it for my custom build "The Octabass". The Knightfall is a versatile drive that can go from nice and clean with an edge to distorstion. I cannot coment on the Darkglass as I only own the B3K and I have never been interested in the Aguilar. The are a gazillion drives in the market, which is a good and a bad thing at the same time... Good luck mate! -
Hi all, Do not know if this has been covered yet, but I just saw this review at Premier Guitar. http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/21905-red-witch-factotum-suboctave-bass-drive-review Price tag is a little high and you could get a separate OD and Octaver for the same £££. What do you guys think?

Isn't the Markbass octave pedal (small one, not the synth/octave) based on the OC-2? Same layout at least with the -2, -1 and dry controls.
