1. Very nice! I like the control plate design.
2. Agree with you Si. Both shape and pups are just wrong... Maybe with a SR body and some traditional looking pups (i.e. 5 string jazz bass singles size) they would have nailed it. Better luck next time Ibanez...
3. Pics please !!! I am sure it is a lovely bass. GLWTS mate!

noisy pots

Cleaning the pots just extends their usable life and it is a way of maintaining your instrument (like cleaning it, changing strings, setups...) Pots normally have an "x" amount of turns until they start failing unless they are being abused or stored in bad conditions (damp, dust, etc...) which will make them go "caput" even sooner. I normally use Servisol and if a pot is giving serious issues, I whack a new quality replacement in. I am tempted to use the bike chains method though... LOLOL
5. Lovely Nash! If I just had the cash... GLWTS, great price!
6.
Ah, sorry mate. If it's any consolation I'm working on a newly acquired project 70's Telecaster Bass that weighs close to 12lbs, and I have a mid '70s ash hardtail Strat that weighs close to 10lbs. Both make the Warmoth feel like playing a feather
Ouch!!!
7. It certainly looks like the 80's Jazz Bass Special that Doug Mckagan (or however you write his name) from Guns&Roses used to play in the day minus de j-pup. I am not sure about the bridge, on the photo it looks quite chunky compared to the standard Fender ones, but the paintwork matches the 80's ones (kind of perloid finish). If it is a pawn shop, you may be able to negociate a little on the price. Most importantly is how you feel about the bass, if you like it and it is up your street it is worth purchasing. Now a days, 300 quid can hardly get you a brand new Squier...
8. I just wonder if the second run will have the same quality and sound everyone is raving about. I am considering the option of going for the 4 string version of the V7 but found that they are sold out until summer.
9.
Is it just me or this new body shape looks a bit like Lakland 44-XX.
The Gold J looked like a Lakland DJ to me. The updates are cool, I like the deeper lower cutaway and the bridge placement as the neck pocket is deeper hence more neck and body contact. But I am not sold on the body re-design... I will miss the old California designs.

Welcome to Basschat!
11.
I think if they'd made a 33" SR bass they'd have been on to a winner here. Folks tend to look to the Soundgear range as a nice full scale yet compact solution, so a 33" would've been real nice and the shorter scale would've balanced well with the shape.
100% with you mate. The SR would have been a killer bass in a 33" E-C!
12.
Prices coming in at about £680 although not seen one in the flesh yet. Seems to be a pre-order item in most UK outlets currently.
680 quid is not bad, but I wish they had gone for the Nordstrand pups instead of the Bartolini ones in this model.
13. Hi y'all, I saw a post here regarding the '15 NAMM and Ibanez's new BTB Volo bass, which is their own take on the 33" Fodera thingy strung E-C. http://www.ibanez.co.jp/usa/news/f_products/2014/workshop/volo.html Has anybody been able to try one out yet? Any prices? I am not into the BTB shape, the horns a too big for my taste but the 33" makes it look a little better than the normal 35" BTB's that are around. And to be honest, it may be the cheapeast 33" E-C bass around. Ibanez has been trying out some cool stuff over the past years at very decent prices (Fretted/Fretless hybrid, Fanned Frets, Kaoss SR bass...). Cheers! Byron.
14.
Yep, there are a couple of running threads on Talkbass and many people want a cheaper solution, but the supply/demand equation seemingly works against that. So naturally, I just built my own. The first used a plate amp similar to the Bag End amp that sifi2112 mentioned -- still more money than just buying any number of bass amps and using only the power amp part, and only a little smaller than a rack mounted pro sound amp. It ended up living in a standard rack anyway, LOL. I am currently finishing up this newer one, which does 700 watts at 4 ohms and weighs about 7 lbs: This will fit side-by-side in a standard rack with a similar sized preamp, or can be stacked on top of smaller cabs, like so: Frankly, I just don't see the market demand being high enough to get the cost down far enough to make business sense, but as DIY'ers can get away without certifications and warranty obligations (at least here), it didn't work out too badly for me.
That looks amazing! Nice setup too! What is the preamp by the way? Never seen it before but looks supah cool. I guess that I will stick to using my Markbass Little Rocker 500 power section as it makes no sense to spend so much £££ on a power amp. Really interested on your class-D DIY amp, did you use any specific schematics? Cheers!
15. Thanks Passinwind, already saw those but they are way out of budget! Lol. I am totally with you Nancy, there are some really cool pedals and pre's that give you all you need and sound fab through the PA when DI'd (Reddi, U5, Tonehammer, Bassbone...) I guess that the Momark series from Markbass can be set for a Preamp module, blank EQ and a Master section. But the size is comparable to other solid-state heads around there and defeats the purpose of a small (Amplite-sized) amp.
16. Hi all, Just wondering if, as I have not found much on the net, there are any small and portable class D amps similiar in format to the SWR Amplite. All I seem to find are 1-2 space rack PA amps. I am tinkering with the idea of going for the BAER tube DI thru a class D into a portable cab (Barefaced 2x10's possibly), but knowing me, I will end up going back to my Markbass Little Rocker 500. If anyone knows about a class D similar in format and size to the Amplite, let me know!

BAER VTI Tube DI

Hi all, Not sure if it has been mentioned already at BC, but the new Baer VTI tube DI looks really nice: http://www.baeramplification.com/vti-direct-box.html http://bassmusicianmagazine.com/2015/01/baer-amplification-introduces-vti-tube-direct-box/ And also some insight from the Baer thread over at Talkbass last year: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/baer-amplification-megathread.819546/page-256 Roger Baer did not disclose the price but he puts in between the Avalon U5 and the REDDI (big gap!). I think it looks pretty sweet and a good option instead of the REDDI, as you can send the processed bass signal to your amp too (or bypass), something that the REDDI unfortunately does not. Cheers! Byron.
18. Great basses these RW Fenders. My RW Jazz (also in Fiesta Red) is my #1 atm and I have quite a few basses around to pick from. The neck on these is amazing. BTW, how is the Schaller 2000 4s bridge? Never tried it but looks solid and a good retro-fit. GLWTS mate!
19. You could always get a 1-spot (US version) from a Guitar Centre store or similar once in the USA. But for 3 pedals, batteries are a good option too if you are not sure that your power supply can switch to 110v.
