I've heard this pedal can alter the mid range quite a bit and that makes me a tad skeptical, I am tempted though with it, how much would postage inc be?
depends where peeps are but next day postage with tracking seem to be around a 8-10 quid andy -
Isn't that what the Drive control is for?
yeh just wondering as he has that turned off, but the gain pretty high andy
-
with your gain set hi as above with a hot bass, could be the reason. however are you using the gain hi to get some grind? andy
I woulnt go so far as to say the Aguilar is completely reliable. Ive seen a few issues crop up with them from time to time. But either the 750 or 751 are great options.
i had the output transformer fail on my old 750, however no smoke or panic like the ampeg i had, and was offered a new replacement 750 as said amp was sent back to the states to be tested as they hadnt had the fault before! andy
There's no point in jumping to conclusions slowly ...
;-) true lol andy
Well boy howdy, that ain't right. The whole point of these rigs is that they fill the place with bass, and you should be able to hear yourself pretty much anywhere. As to "woolly" and "lacking definition" that sounds like a duff head to me. My Matamp is right at the other end of the spectrum from those descriptions.
bit quick to jump to duff head imo, andy
it is indeed a sad, sad situation matey! the p-bass in the shop was a good one as far as fender go too, I'm rather expecting to be bringing it home
very sad i feel for you really i do lol andy
Well I borrowed an AD200b from a local guitar shop for our band practice last night and feckadoodle is it heavy! Looks damn good but oo it's a weighty chuffer! The sound through my EAD Foundation 212 was big and fruity, filling the room easily with gain at 12 o'clock and master on 2 (8 o'clock ish) but from where I was standing (to the side of the cab and not in front so less than ideal) it was awfully woolly too and lacked definition on any individual notes I was playing. our drummer said it sounded really good and noticeably different from the markbass LMIII head I usually use and he was in a better listening position tbh, we also recorded the practice with a condensor mic on a stick (we did this the week before and the live sound was pretty good and had good bass content as it's a decent mic) so will leave final judgement until I've heard the songs back. Last week's recording with LMIII through EAD 212 and using my Cabronita P the sound was a bit 'honky' in the mids for what I'm after (a bit too aggressive and humbuckery) and I blamed the s/s amp, I suspect now it was the bass (fidelitron pickup in it) and will be toddling along to my dealer (local music shop) for another fix on Saturday where I'll try the USA p bass I originally tried the orange with in the shop and compare it to my cabronita...I may yet do the amp change but I suspect that the first port of call is the wood&wires and get that right...
to be honest going from a the lm3 id expect the orange to sound a bit less tight in the bottom end, but gd idea in trying your bass through the rig although that could mean you end up wanting the new p bass aswell lol

Mesa Boogie worth the premium price tag ?
0175westwood29 replied to Stealth's topic in Amps and Cabs
id love to use some mesa gear, but when you put it up against say orange or ampeg especially orange you can grab there top of the line head ad200b and an 810obc for around 2500 if you looked around new and about nearly 4000 for the the mesa 810 and 750 big block which i dnt think is there main head for bass. i must admit they look amazing and im sure are bullet prof but the money the go for is a tad out of hand andy -
If the amp is rated at 900W into 4 ohms then a good rule of thumb is that it'll deliver 2/3rds into 8 ohms - so about 600W in this case. Thus, the 600W cab on its own will be fine at any volume but the 300W cab would be at risk on its own. Again, probably all OK if used carefully, but the risk is there. It's a bit like the difference between having a red line on a car rev-counter that you have to be careful not to exceed or having a rev-limiter that will make it impossible to do any damage.
i know that but anyone shout know not to drive the crap out of a small cab anyway, perfectly fine to use it with both cabs ill probs end up if i can get on in time the 210 obc cab
It's a mismatch. To be matched the 2x10 should have twice the impedance of the 4x10, so each driver receives the same power. That means a 4 ohm 4x10, and an amp capable of handling a 2.7 ohm load. It may be workable, but it's not ideal. The position of the master, BTW, doesn't indicated how much power the amp is producing.
limiting yourself even more then tho id say they have a gd small/ medium/large gig rig there very gd for the money, and also if we all used cabs that could take our heads power i would never get to use my terror. andy
Cheers guys, I did think that the 300w cab would be in danger, just wanted it confirmed. Seems stange that they would bundle all that together.
to be fair tho would each cab be getting 450w, so id pit the 210 on top but im pretty sure that it would be fine, id imagine if you used it on its own with the head it be over loaded aswell andy

unless you get into the realms of vocal effects id say your sorted. although i think its very gd for a singer to have there own mic, our singer has a wireless line 6 unit do you find that if the soundman is having problems they go to your stuff first? our singer has his own lead and last gig there was a bad hum on the vox they went straight saying it was his wireless so he calmly changed mics to theres and it was still there cue very apologetic soundman. but honestly id say your set unless you wanna go into vocal effects but most of the time would be reverb and they can add that in foh andy

Gigging Rig for someone that DI's
Easy to transport I`d look at a Barefaced cab, then amp-wise, well Markbass, TC Electronic, Genz Benz Shuttle, EBS, all of these are worth checking out.
the problem with the barefaced is he'd have to go second hand, as waiting for a new new cab will take months ( not a hater just being honest ) if you want easy to move and not going for sound as im guessing you'll be running the sansamp into it maybe try and grab a small mb combo? andy -
Not many shops to choose from round these parts unfortunately. Any thoughts on Ampeg?
a band i played with bassist had a pf350 sounded......well like an ampeg he did say it wasnt the loudest but from having a svt pro 6 i know ampeg sometimes inflate there wattage rating. honestly would consider going secondhand as you could grab a bargain http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224382-gallien-krueger-2001rb/ andy
And also get out and listen to a few bands, when you hear a tone you like investigate said bassists amp - what you hear in a band context gives a great idea of whether it`s right or wrong for you.
this is totally the reason i went out and got a terror bass, saw a pink band and fell in love! i cant recommend the terrors enough, would be a 500w version for you budget but that will be loud as hell! also the gk mb heads are really nice. andy

there are a few others which a much cheaper than the darkglass stuff, check out the mesa flux drive. andy
-
I am quite interested in this, though thought it would be cheaper, it's only £15-20 less than the regular hall of fame... BUT i only have space for a nano pedal on my board, so right now, tempted!!
i must admit i did aswell but if you r a set and forget kinda guy with the verb i suppose theres no need for having the knobs. andy
Probably another stupid question from me! Should I use the effects loop or is it okay to stick the effects straight into the input jack (as I normally would)? I shall be using Octaver, Chorus, Fuzz & Overdrive - not all at the same time though!
i stuck all my effects in front of the amp, tbh only really delays and verbs i might stick in the loop now. however you can always try there no wrong or right depends if you want some of it to avoid the preamp, but my guess is you'll want the fuzz and drive to be in front of the pre, and the octave you like most im guessing have that first in your effects so tbh probs just keep it inline and go into the input. andy
I agree, reverb on bass has a fairly specific and 'difficult-to-get-right' use in a generic band setting. Worth spending as little as possible first (or at least buying second hand) in order to see if its what you want. For a nice and solid, toneful set of reverbs, the Marshall Reflector is excellent, and can be found and decent prices. I prefer slightly weirder reverbs, so my one of choice at the moment is a Mr Black Eterna, which is essentially a shimmer reverb. Si
me to been gasing for a eventide space for years!
I've ordered a Behringer FBQ2015. Should be in my hands on tuesday, not a bad price either. Thanks everyone.
did you mean 1502? i keep coming up with idea of what i could do with the second channel andy
-
Those Orange Terror things baffle me, they are just a box with knobs sticking out. absolute no protection for the controls or anything, a full flight case must be a requirmenent and I bet you have to be carefull putting it in that.
i actually think there pretty hard wearing the bag you get is padded and ive never had a prob, however i am going to get a flightcase soon as my band is try ing to go on tour so it'll be easier to through in the back of the van. andy

could i maybe put a strange suggestion out there, why not use a good quality capo? to bring the bass up a tone? easy and quick and no second bass needed just tune the bass to d and pop a capo on the right fret andy
