....when practising/ noodling on your bass? New domestic set up means that for the first time I'll not be sat on the sofa or edge of the bed - neither of which were ever that great tbh. So I want a bench or stool for my office/music room and was hoping for recommendations, ideally less than £50, but will possibly prise my wallet further open for an outstanding suggestion! Thanks in advance

I always thought the Bongo looked terrible, then suddenly one day, for no discernible reason, I realised that I now think it looks great and quite want one.... and especially a Stealth 6 (after seeing below vid) which I could neither afford nor do justice to

My fire engine red from 1988. Originally had a white guard, and is actually 2 band again. The 3rd tone control is a dummy as I drilled a hole for the jack through the bottom of the body. It's been refretted with stainless steel frets about 20 years ago. I've owned this for about 27 years now, will never sell it. Would love one like the op's to go with it someday.

Contemplating this very same thing with my 77 Jazz which has binding. The relacquer for the maple board ( which will presumably be required, and it has lots of "character" I'll be sorry to lose ) is the only thing holding me back, but I expect I will take the plunge in the new year.

I have to agree with the "at least they're having a go" sentiment. Good on them etc. Having said that, it did remind me of this old favourite:

For me playability followed by tone rule at this price point. Sounds like it's a player - I'd hold onto it!

There will always be natural variation with wood. If they've taken the effort to cut a tree down it feels a shame to discard a perfectly useful piece of lumber for what is an honest and natural aesthetic anomaly. There's no performance impact here, so I'd just crack on and enjoy playing it. I do get that not everybody will feel the same, just my 1/2p

I had a BN4. I thought it was stunning - refined but flexible tone, great playability. I had to sell it to raise some money but had seller's regret and tried to buy it back. Sadly the new owner wasn't interested I would have another in a heart beat.

Good friend of mine (who got me into bass as a teenager) had a Ninja bass in what must have been around 1991. It was terrible 🙂He ended up taking it back to the shop after 2 weeks because action was so high it was essentially unplayable. He returned with a Westone Thunder, which I later had off him as my first bass, and never looked back!

Jeff Buckley. Completely unexpected and the sense of loss I felt took me completely by surprise. Feels particularly sad to me given that he certainly had so much more music to make.

The above unfortunately mirrors my own experience re. the disinterest from one staff member when Mark's not about. I've mixed feelings about returning which is a shame as so want to support an independent specialist bass shop which could be such an excellent business.

Complete contrast to Rotosound experience I had recently. Decided to try them again after many years away after inconsistent sets in the noughties. One dead string out of the pack. Contacted them by email but nothing in response at all. Disappointing as really wanted to support them. This is really good service from Warwick.

I've a lovely fretless Jazz which was made for me some years ago. I have an issue with the neck side dots being very faint (small clay dots on an 'aged' finish) which makes it very challenging to play in dim light. I was wondering if any of you had any inventive solutions or could point me to some options you might have tried? I've seen various stick-on options advertised, but are they actually usable in real life?

Having a hard time reducing my bass count at the moment, which really needs to happen. One has been sitting in a case unplayed since I moved house 18 months ago. Got it out to restring, clean and check over before definitely putting it up for sale but made the mistake of sitting down to play it. I'd forgotten how good it sounds - fat yet clear with perfectly weighted mid range. I don't think I can let it go now
