Either what Lozz said, or try some cheaper pickups and see what you think? I put a Tonerider in the neck position of my 70s Jazz as getting a bit broke but wanted to replace the ole DiMarzio bridge pup someone had shoehorned in there. I should qualify this by saying that I've never been shy of spending on gear. I want expecting much, but it honestly sounds excellent.

The Rolling Scones Radishead T-Sex The Bevellers Apologies if these have been done already, thread too massive to trawl through (if you're as lazy as I am). A good chance they've not, as they're undeniably a cr*p effort 🤣 -
Has anybody mentioned Alusonic? Love my Django Std 5, and you could probably pick up a 4 within your budget if you can find one.

Don't know if you've mentioned yet (sorry if I missed it)....but, how is the B string?!

Do you know what type of bass you want? If not, my advice would be to start there, look at and try as many as you can then look at what's available within budget. Whether you need to spend £1500 will depend on what you decide you want/need. Based on personal experience here, don't necessarily assume that because you're spending more money the instrument you end up with will suit you better if it's not the right 'fit' for you. Echoing point already made - definitely consider buying used too

I had a beautiful G&L Legacy many years ago which had passive treble and bass controls. Whilst my experience may not be directly transferable to your lovely bass, as I got used to it I found I could get some realty useful tones by dropping either/both. Also sounded great with both full on, but more 'modern'. I'd like to try a bass with this wiring config sometime.

Almost exactly the same as my experience! It's a UK bass institution in my opinion, very good to deal with but better if you can do it in person or by ringing, if possible.

I use the Dunlops after switching from Schaller, which Is used for years. Either are great, but for me the Dunlops edge it.
