1. Give the carpet a good brush over (or vacuum it), and it'll look fine. I can understand your irritation though.
2.
I purchased a Precision neck from a reputable eBay seller in the States on 24th December. It was shipped to me USPS on the 27th and turned up here yesterday with no charges! Result
Any chance you could PM me who the seller was? I wonder if it was the same one I used?
3. Loved the sound of the MEC`s in my Thumb BO - sounded exceptionally good in a rock band context. I can't imagine you could significantly improve upon the tone by swapping them out. I wish I still had that bass....
4. I bought a Jazz neck on ebay from a US seller on 10.12.07. It still hasn't turned up.... I have the USPS tracking number and it tells me that the item left the US on the 14.12.07. Anybody any idea where my neck might be? I trust the seller, who appears to be a reputable shop with a perfect feedback rating, I'm just starting to worry my item has been lost somewhere. I could be £140 out of pocket if this doesn't turn up
5. +4. I think that makes 978, but please feel free to correct me.
6. Thumbs up for Strings & Things (UK importer of Musicman). Always helpful, and they sent me free allen keys!
7. How old is the bass? I run my action very low and like very little relief, just as you do. I've found that with some basses I've had to tweak the rod a lot (sometimes more than once a week), but they have nearly always settled down after a year or so. I used to have to adjust my Stingray all the time, but now I have to do it only a couple of times a year, if that.
8.
' post='93960' date='Nov 24 2007, 09:57 PM']wot eva u "elderly man" nd im 13 nd probs a way better bassist thn u!
Hey, no need to be disrespectful.
9.
Freaky Styley is the album that first made me want to take up bass. I didn't even really know what a bass guitar was up until the point my mate told me to "listen to it". I personally like Freaky Styley and Blood Sugar the best as well. Freaky Styley for the intense rythms and incredible energy of the playing (from the whole band), and Blood Sugar because, it seems to me, like all of the best aspects of the Chili's in one album. Anthony's voice hadn't got annoying yet - it still had a bit of bite to it, John's guitar is like a catalogue of fabulous tones and playing, Flea has the most amazing tone and plays perfectly in support of every track. Chad does a pretty decent job too!
11. I always thought it was mostly a Stingray on the first three albums (although I heard somewhere that he used a Sabre (not sure I believe that)) albeit with a bit of Spector thrown in here and there on Uplift Mofo. Mother's Milk I think is Spector and Stingray, Blood Sugar is almost all Wal (apart from 5 string tracks then Stingray). I heard somewhere that on One Hot Minute he used an Alembic (Epic??), but it sounds like a few different basses to me. After that album I kind of lost interest, as I personally find each one progressively more disappointing than the (in my opinion) unsurpassed BSSM. But I think it's generally accepted he used his Modulus and Jazz more recently. FWIW I love Flea's tone on Freaky Styley, but his recorded Wal tones on Blood Sugar are something else - to my ears at least!
12.
I would avoid using that lot - I had a bad experience with them... This guy that advertises on eBay is really good: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZbrauskoh
Thanks for the link 99ster. Am still deliberating whether to take the plunge on the refin or not... I always fancied a natural Wal, but the general consensus seems to be that the black is a real hit!
13.
have you given these guys a go? http://www.thedecalshop.co.uk/
That is brilliant mate, thank you!!
14. Cheers. The finish has been done to a very high standard, it's just tantalizing to think what may lie beneath! There's a bit of buckle rash on the back, but otherwise the finish is in great shape.
15. I was just wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction for getting a headstock logo custom made. I am considering getting my bass restored to its normal finish, which would involve destroying the logo that is currently on there. Getting a replacement from the manufacturer is not really an option at the moment, so I'm open to all suggestions. Cheers, Matt
16. Well, I was very sad to see my Black Wal 4 string go, but practicality was dictating that I needed a five string, so I had to part with it. By some great stroke of fortune, I have managed to replace it with something strikingly similar, but with the extra string I was looking for The conundrum with which I am now faced is whether or not I should attempt to have it returned to its former, schedua-faced glory, or keep it as it is (which wouldn't exactly break my heart). This was refinished in black poly in the mid nineties, you see. I would have to sort a logo from somewhere, seeing as getting one from Wal isn't really a possibilty at at the moment. Does anybody know of a place that could make me up a high quality water-slide transfer? I emailed (and then phoned) Sims custom. After waiting and receiving no response I can only assume that they're not especially interested in helping me out, so I'd rather use someone else. This is a smashing bass, and I'm chuffed to bits. Now I'm off to try and get to grips with that extra string (3rd time lucky?!). Matt
17. Thanks to everyone for your interest in my Wal. I've finally managed to do an exchange for a Wal Mach II 5'er which, it so happens, is spookily similar to the 4. Anyway, it's exactly what I was looking for . Pictures to follow in the porn section!
18.
Thanks Lads. I think I'll be staying with the DR's. I get them from the States for $24.95 (£12.50) but with the extras you pay they work out a bit more. The only trouble is the last time I orderd them they took nearly a month to arrive.
Can I ask where you order yours from, Steve?
19. Lovely bass at a very fair price! Someone will surely nab this?! Have a bump on me
20. I've been looking with interest at the strings on the Status website. I notice that they do a round core version of their "Hotwires" string. Since switching to DR Hi Beams a few years ago I find all other strings lacking in feel, but am wondering if these might be a good, cheaper alternative? Has anybody tried these? Even better, if you have tried both, how do you reckon they compare to the DR's? Matt
21. If not then I'll buy it.... (only kidding!)
22. Can't you get them to hold it with a deposit? Most shops will do this for you.
