I'm afraid I don't have a suitable scale to weigh the bass. You wouldn't exactly say that it was light, but I haven't found the weight to be a problem (as I did with my old Jaydee, for example), even over long rehearsals etc, if that helps at all?! I'm a pretty slim build too, probably due to the cycling... lol!

I never thought I'd be faced with parting with this bass, because I know that I will probably never be able to replace it. Unfortunately I need to raise some money to purchase a new mountain bike, and these days I seem to get more from my mountain biking than my music (never thought I'd say that either!). This is a feeler to gauge interest. I have recently moved and am currently only able to access the web at work, so please bear with me - I will get back to you eventually! Here's a couple of pics... The bass is an `89 - probably one of the last to be signed off by Ian Waller. It has been refinished to a high standard in black poly by French luthier Patrice Blanc, but underneath are schedua facings. Rest assured there are no hidden repairs or problems with the bass, I guess the previous owner just fancied a change. I probably wouldn't have done it myself, although it does look rather good (always attracts positive comments). Condition is very good for the age, there is a small patch of buckle rash on the back, but nothing else really of note. Electrics are in full working order (pots are smooth and noise-free), truss rod functions perfectly (currently running a low action with light srings). It comes with the original Wal hardcase. I've just fitted a brand new set of Zon strings too! This would not only make a fabulous working bass for someone, but also a great investment given the current appetite for Wals. The tone is wonderful, very growly in the low mids with a tremendous "bark" when you dig in.... In other words, classic Wal tone! Looking for £2k.

If you like the way the bass plays and sounds then I would strongly recommend that you take it out and play it! You'll get far more from it that way, using it as it was intended to be used. Anything will acquire some marks if you use it - most of us will know that sinking feeling when you spot a new dent or scratch in your car door when you return to the car park, but it's something you just can't avoid. If you're careful with it and make sure it sits in the case whilst setting up etc, you can minimize the risks. Personally I couldn't bear to have so much invested in a bass only for it to sit there unused.

Another vote for Mighty Brite. I gigged for the first time with one on saturday - coloured lights and my notes in plastic wallets... it worked great!
yep, it sure is. Defo not cables, batteries or anything else. Bugger, will dig the jiffy bag out of the bin!
May not be this, but my multicomp will drive the front end of my amp pretty easilly if the gain is set much over 12 o' clock.

I really hope I can make this one. Subject to anything unexpected cropping up I should be along, would love to try my Fodera through a few different rigs!

Who needs bass when you have cigars? -

Give the carpet a good brush over (or vacuum it), and it'll look fine. I can understand your irritation though.
I purchased a Precision neck from a reputable eBay seller in the States on 24th December. It was shipped to me USPS on the 27th and turned up here yesterday with no charges! Result
Any chance you could PM me who the seller was? I wonder if it was the same one I used?

Loved the sound of the MEC`s in my Thumb BO - sounded exceptionally good in a rock band context. I can't imagine you could significantly improve upon the tone by swapping them out. I wish I still had that bass....

I bought a Jazz neck on ebay from a US seller on 10.12.07. It still hasn't turned up.... I have the USPS tracking number and it tells me that the item left the US on the 14.12.07. Anybody any idea where my neck might be? I trust the seller, who appears to be a reputable shop with a perfect feedback rating, I'm just starting to worry my item has been lost somewhere. I could be £140 out of pocket if this doesn't turn up

How may Basses do we own collectively on Basschat?

+4. I think that makes 978, but please feel free to correct me. -
Thumbs up for Strings & Things (UK importer of Musicman). Always helpful, and they sent me free allen keys!

How old is the bass? I run my action very low and like very little relief, just as you do. I've found that with some basses I've had to tweak the rod a lot (sometimes more than once a week), but they have nearly always settled down after a year or so. I used to have to adjust my Stingray all the time, but now I have to do it only a couple of times a year, if that.

I agree with you about John btw
Freaky Styley is the album that first made me want to take up bass. I didn't even really know what a bass guitar was up until the point my mate told me to "listen to it". I personally like Freaky Styley and Blood Sugar the best as well. Freaky Styley for the intense rythms and incredible energy of the playing (from the whole band), and Blood Sugar because, it seems to me, like all of the best aspects of the Chili's in one album. Anthony's voice hadn't got annoying yet - it still had a bit of bite to it, John's guitar is like a catalogue of fabulous tones and playing, Flea has the most amazing tone and plays perfectly in support of every track. Chad does a pretty decent job too!
I always thought it was mostly a Stingray on the first three albums (although I heard somewhere that he used a Sabre (not sure I believe that)) albeit with a bit of Spector thrown in here and there on Uplift Mofo. Mother's Milk I think is Spector and Stingray, Blood Sugar is almost all Wal (apart from 5 string tracks then Stingray). I heard somewhere that on One Hot Minute he used an Alembic (Epic??), but it sounds like a few different basses to me. After that album I kind of lost interest, as I personally find each one progressively more disappointing than the (in my opinion) unsurpassed BSSM. But I think it's generally accepted he used his Modulus and Jazz more recently. FWIW I love Flea's tone on Freaky Styley, but his recorded Wal tones on Blood Sugar are something else - to my ears at least!
I would avoid using that lot - I had a bad experience with them... This guy that advertises on eBay is really good: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZbrauskoh
Thanks for the link 99ster. Am still deliberating whether to take the plunge on the refin or not... I always fancied a natural Wal, but the general consensus seems to be that the black is a real hit!
