Hi all, sorry for the delay in responding to the last few posts - I broke my right hand on tuesday, and I can only just about bear to use it for typing! I think I might be able to get playing soon-ish, although it depends on what they do to me at the fracture clinic tomorrow. I can still manage fingerstyle if I play very lightly - slap style is more painfull though :-( Just to confirm the fingerboard is Indian ebony, the Headstock is black with white Wal logo. Considering a few different trades at the moment, but am still open to all offers. I'll attempt some more photography when I can operate a camera half decently! Andy: Status aren't quite my thing, but if I decide just to sell the Wal I'll let you know. nig: I've already owned a couple of G&L`s (wonderful basses!), but I fancy something different this time, sorry.

Sorry for not posting sooner. Owen, I definitely don't want a 36" scale, although that Overwater is a bit of a beast! Surprised you would be willing to part with that one! I was really hoping someone would come forth with a Wal 5'er or a Sadowsky, although I've been offered some really cool basses. Anybody else interested?

I use an Eden 210sxt rated at 4 ohms, it's fabby!

I've sold them through the shop I work for, and I really rate them for the money. Great, smooth, modern tones - and generally reliable in my experience. Seem to have good headroom too.

If anybody can tell me who played bass on The Pointer Sister's "How Long (Betcha Gotta Chick on The Side)", I would love to know. That's some seriously great playing, in my humble. :-)
Hi, I have a MM Stingray 5 for sale, if you are interested.
Would prefer something with 2 pups preferably, but I do love Rays.
How about a black Status/Trace Elliot T Bass 5 String plus some cash?
Unsure about this, what's the neck like?
I have an immaculate through neck, Thumb V with MEC electrics I may consider parting with.... (?)
I had a thumb and loved it, but I would prefer a 34" scale length. Thanks again for all your interest guys! I'm in the process of answering all your pm's, please bear with me. Matt :-)
Shes beautiful Just a taster but would a Gibson Thunderbird tickle your fancy??? Cheers Col
Not quite up my street, matey, thanks for the offer though. Gad you like the bass - it's a special instrument. When you play and hear this you can understand why Wals are so in demand.

I thought I'd put some feelers out there to see if anybody is interested. I find myself in need of a five string, although I've never quite gotten on with them before. Previous experience has allowed me to zone in on what I want, and what I don't want, however! Up for trade is my 1986 Wal Mach I (Geddy Lee). Absolutely fabulous bass in superb condition for it's age. Here's a quick snap of the body... So, I'm after a swap with a high end 5 string - possibly with some cash to change hands, depending on what you got! I can tell you what I don't want... Bartolinis (can't dig the tone), 35" scale length (too comfortable with 34"). Not too concerned about string spacing provided it isn't too narrow.... Would love something like a Sadowsky (pref USA) or even a five string Wal.... but am open to any offers. You don't see many completely black Wals like this, and it's in cracking condition too. I don't want to part with it at all, but I reckon a swap would be easier than a sale - at least I'll have something new to play with to ease my sorrow ;-) Any Q's then please fire away, I'll do my best to answer asap. Thanks for reading! Matt p.s. I'm in Gloucester, for those that might be interested in a potential viewing.

In my opinion black, definitely. I really like the stock knobs and black would preserve a similar look, even if they are different knobs.

.... oh, lovely looking bass, btw :-)

8 weeks isn't that bad really, although I have sympathy for how you feel. I waited 7 months for my Jazz, and a similar time for my G&L. If it's any consolation I think that the wait really adds to the anticipation, so when you finally get the guitar it seems like an even greater event!

I'm well down on numbers compared to you lot, but it's good fun to think of the guitars that have passed my way. Westone Thunder I: My first bass, and I didn't realise how good it was at the time. Great build quality, came out of the Matsumoku factory. 1989 Musicman Stingray: Bought this from the same fella that I bought the Westone off - he decided he wanted to buy some "decks". His loss was my gain! Still have this and won't ever part with it, plays like a dream and has an amazing birdseye maple neck. Got bags of mojo now too. Rickenbacker 4001 (early 80`s): This was a pile of cack to play, but sounded great. I kept it for a fortnight and swapped it for a brand new... Rickenbacker 4003 Mapleglo: This was a stunning bass, but I never got on with the tone. G&L ASAT Bass: Ridiculously lovely translucent red finish and beautiful, slim neck. I still feel pain when I think of how I parted with this. Amazing slap tone, fabulous versatility, but the neck used to dive so badly and I just couldn't live with it :-( Warwick Thumb Bolt On: Probably the best all round tone I've had - cut through the mix wonderfully well. I only parted with it because I fell in love with a Jaydee Super Session. 1983 Jaydee Super Session: Completely impractical for me, this bass, but it was an amazing slap bass with a clear, punchy tone. Only sold it very recently, mainly due to me getting married and moving abroad in the near future. 1986 Wal Custom (Geddy Lee MK I): The bass I'd always wanted, although never thought I'd end up with a black Geddy Lee. Got it just before the prices went silly. This bass, looks and sounds evil. I cannot imagine a better rock-bass tone - that in itself makes up for the slightly uncomfortable body shape and strap balance. I hope I never have to sell it. Lakland Skyline 5501 NTMB: Lovely 5 string, was really impressed with the quality. Never quite got on with the tone or the extra string.... I've since realised that Barts don't suit my personal taste, otherwise a wicked bass. F Bass BN4: Stunningly beautiful bass in every way. Sublimely useable tone and wonderful quality, balance and playability. I've just recently sold this to a fellow BC'er. Hope it's still doing the biz, Peter. Bravewood 1963 Jazz Bass "of Doom": Made for me by John at Bravewood, this is my own Jaco bass. A bit sad? Possibly! But it is amazingly authentic looking and sounds wonderful. Epoxy fingerboard coating, the works. I won't be selling this. Sei Flamboyant 5: Very lovely looker, with practically every option available. This is the bass that confirmed that I don't like the sound of Bartolinis, so I had to reluctantly part with it. Modulus Flea Bass: "One Off" Green flake finish! Played great, sounded good but preferred my Stingray. Used as a part-ex against my latest... Fodera Monarch Classic: This is the bass that has cured my gas - which is just as well seeing as how I have to grow up and stop blowing my cash! It's taken me a little while to grow into this bass, and I think it really needed a few months playing in. Now I can't imagine playing anything else, it is effortless to play, sounds stunning and balances perfectly. It's a stunning looker without being too bling (spalted maple top with pale-moon ebony board (stripey!)). That concludes the voting. Crikey, that's more than I thought!

Wow, thanks for all the great suggestions everybody! I really like the look of the PJB, and the Cafe Walter. Thanks for the offer of a try on yours BB, very kind of you. You wouldn't want me defiling yours with my inept noodlings, however ;-) I think I might just take the plunge for one...

May I ask where you ordered it from, BB?

Hi Ped, I'm good mate, cheers! Thanks for the advice, and the links. The MXR looked interesting, the other too - although I couldn't spot a 1/4 jack input, using socket adaptors would probably get on my nerves! Funny you should mention the Korg, mikeh, I was considering the PX4D, which I believe does guitar and bass. Has anybody any experience of this unit? I have been using a PX3 (guitar version), which works to a point, but I can't help wondering if something bass-specific might be better. All opinions welcome!

As I'm having to sell my amps due to moving abroad in the next few months, I would like to sort myself out with a really good quality headphone amp. Does such a thing actually exist?! I've had a hunt around the net and can't seem to come up with anything much. It needs to be a portable size, but price isn't an issue... within reason! What do you guys use for practising? Also, any headphone recommendations would be most welcome. Matt :-)

oh yes, and the guy who purchased my '76 Precision openly admitted that he was going to shove it back in the case and treat it as an investment. I was gutted, having put a lot of love and care into getting it into great playing shape. That's why I much prefer to sell gear through this forum. What's the point of sticking it away? Why not get it out and enjoy playing it, you might get run-over by a bus before you get to sell the darn thing!

When people tell me that they've spent a great wad of cash on an old Fender I have to restrain myself from saying, "what? you could have got a new one for that!!". Having said that I do love the look and feel of a well played-in, old Fender. Some of the 70`s stuff I've come across has been rubbish, but then again some of it was great too. I picked up a lovely '76 Precision, which I bought entirely because it played and sounded fantastic, it was also very cheap (I knew I should have held onto it for longer!). The neck was a sensation, and it looked wicked with all the chrome-y pickguard-y bits on. I agree with Crazy Kiwi about the value of these things, it's surely what it's worth to the individual that counts. Ironically I paid £900 for a Wal Custom a few years ago - and it was really stretching my budget. I had dithered about on a couple that I had been offered for £700, and then regretted not having taken the plunge. I felt like I was paying a bit over-the-odds, but didn't want to pass up on another one, and I had wanted a Wal since I first picked up a bass. Needless to say, I don't feel quite so bad about what I paid for it now...

One of my friends raves about his constantly (his MicroKorg, I mean). I am quite envious of him. Let us know if you bite the bullet!

I reckon it's a Classic Series Jazz (60`s one, made in Mexico). The finish sounds like Burgundy mist - very sexy looking basses those, with great sounding pickups IMO.
Not at the moment unfortunally. Have joined a new band pretty recently and are gearing outrselves up to start gigging sometime soon.
I know this will sound weird, but were you amp hunting in Gloucester today?!
