1. ahh fair enough, right near my college too Have you checked out the new shop called fuzz guitars on hockley? The staff in there are great, they know what they're talking about and have some great instruments. guitar and drum centre has some potential too, but i've seen that same corvette and l-2000 tribby hanging up in there for years
2.
That would be Music Inn. It's good for sheet music and picks/cables etc, due to it being a small store there range is obviously limited! Joe, Matt and Rachel are great staff though. Joe is actually a damn good bass player, you can fond his band on myspace, called 'The Other Left'. Very funky.
Nah music inn is on alfreton road, the one in viccy centre is music room. I've found the service from some of the staff there to be pretty poor too.
3. Nice one, if i'm ever down notts on a saturday i'll pop in (though i spend enough time in notts for college as it is)
4.
Hey guys cool vids! Here are a couple of me I got from youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tulWu0wBqa8...player_embedded http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INZDRC-GBdc Craig
Wow!!!!! That's all i can really say!!
5.
I found a great site the other day on celebrity riders but can't find the link now... if it does show up, I'll post it. It was very eye opening!
Axl rose has had some good ones... the stuck up prat EDIT: this one isn't so bad but still kinda funny
6. that's pretty cool, some nice woods there You seem to have a nasty case of "bass face" too, you should get that looked at
7.
Blimey... what a softy... I love the slabs!
Hah, i don't like the chunky necks either, call me a wimp but i love my warwick That said, i'd love to have a proper go on a sterling, i reckon i'd get on with one of them.
8. as long as it does what you need it to They're meant to be played!
9. once when we ran a gig we hijacked the people bringing the carts of uneaten food back from a retirement do in one of the other rooms and put them out for the bands we had playing But nah, i rarely expect to be paid, let alone given free food/drink
10.
i hope they'll be built as well as the ray i once had. slab body as well. sweet
Not a fan of the slab body, really hurt my wrist/chest when i played my SUB bass sat down, i can understand why they stopped doing that. Two steps forward one step back and all that...
11. looks like either a VERY used natural, or a VERY used amber... i'm pretty sure they did like an amber tint...
12. nice collection, i especially like the sunburst les paul
13. wow that was really cool, that's a really interesting bassline, and great sounding bass Got a couple more here, a bit rough around the edges again, but nevermind! I only just realised today that my phone was decent for videos so that's why i've just bashed 3 videos up today. I think the first megaedeth one was my favourite though.
14.
no it is. especially when the bass will cost over £1k. would you be happy if you could fit a 1mm plectrum inbetween the body and neck of your bass?
It wouldn't really bother me that much in all honesty... playability and sound are more important to me though as someone said, it's probably because it's a proto model, i've never seen another musicman with a gap like that.
15. yeah, i really want one! Shame they don't do one in white
16. That black is darker than i expected
17. cheers there are some bits that weren't great, it's a hard song though! Dave ellefson is amazing
18. For sale: Morley pro series II bass wah - £30 ONO EDIT: now sold
19. I have a signed copy of Dream Theater's Greatest Hit (and 21 other pretty cool songs), ordered it from the states, cost me less that way than to have bought an un-signed one over here!
That is so cool Russ! I don't have anything to match just some plectrums (plectra?) from Metallica, Megadeth, Lemmy etc (see 'Plectrum Porn' post in Gear Porn section) and my Shuker JJB came with a signed photo of Jean Jacques.
I also have a kirk hammett pick (yep found it again) from metallica and a Dave Ellefson pick from clarky (thanks)
20. I don't think we have one of these so i thought it could be interesting, so we can have a look at each other's styles and techniques, hear what certain basses/amp combos sound like and give some constructive criticism etc and just watch some cool videos. So i'll start it off. Here's one i recorded today of me playing along to Holy Wars by Megadeth. There are some minor mistakes (especially the fill near the end), but i'm pretty happy!
21. I'm going to bring my morley wah too, in case anyone wants it, but i won't bother putting it on the list
22. oh my... that's one of my dream basses, wish i had the money for it! Stunner! Just thought i'd say this colour is discontinued now, so you can't buy it in the shops unless it's NOS
23. Another update, just cut and shaped the control plate for the bass, took me a good couple of hours! A friend of mine who works at rolls royce (aerospace, not the cars) has offered to make me up a polished stainless steel one, so this may just be a template, but there you go. I mucked up the countersinking of one of the screw holes, went a little too far, and it's not brilliantly shaped, but for a first attempt, i'm pretty pleased. All the screwholes line up near enough perfectly though, so i'm happy The preamp fits it perfectly too, as you can see: EDIT: you can see where i mucked up the top screw hole in that second picture. There are some scratches that i'm not happy with though, so i'm going to t-cut it as soon as i can find it.... sure we have some somewhere...
24. That sounds a lot better, the new strings sound like they've helped loads, and obviously using a pick makes a massive difference. It may be expensive, but maybe a new amp could get you more towards the sound you're after. I have an ashdown ABM300 and the tube pre sounds great for a little bit of moderate overdrive and the amp itself is really punchy, i love it. You could also dial that in with your pod, though i've never used one, so i don't know. Also try playing with the settings on your bass, maybe use the bridge pickup exclusively or something or try cutting/boosting some frequencies, it will make a massive difference to your sound.
25.
Fantastic post.
agreed
