Even if you can't play, as the above poster says, it's important that the bass is at least comfortable to you, if it's a good shop with good service, you shouldn't feel subconscious about picking up a bass and maybe just plucking some open notes to get an idea of the sound (you can at least play some open notes and hear a difference, whether you can play or not) and just see how it feels. Different neck dimensions will feel different to you, some better some worse. I may not be able to drive a car, but when i'm sitting in one i know what's comfy and what what would have heavy steering or a heavy clutch by comparison with others. You know what i mean? Also the bodies on certain ibanezs are different to others, try sitting with them and see which feels more comfortable. I myself don't like large bodied basses like fenders, and on the guitar side of things, some les pauls really dig into my ribs, particularly the les paul custom. you just need to spend time finding the bass that suits you perfectly, because if you buy a new bass you don't like, you stand to make a loss on resale.
its sapphire black, i didnt have much choice on the colour it was either take it as it is or wait 4 months for what chose. got it from the bassgallery they matched an online price so got it for 1600 sterling. way better than thomann or any oif those, prices on thomann a while back were 2600, they suck these days.
Ahh, i can never tell the difference between those two. It's a nice colour though and a superb bass. I think £1600 is a decent enough deal brand new.

What colour is it by the way? is it graphite pearl?
-
gorgeous! i think a black pearl pickguard would look good on that. Same for black ice if they hadn't discontinued it

I've just noticed that the last two names of attendees on the list both have models of fender amp in their name coincidence? surely not!

My bass would have cost over £800 new, gladly i didn't pay that much for it, but i wouldn't be THAT bothered about some minor blemishes if it was used, as long as it played and sounded ok and wasn't totally trashed, after all, they're meant to be used and i'm only going to put more blemishes on it. If it was a brand new bass, i wouldn't mind too much if there was a small blemish on there from the factory, as i say, i'm only going to put more on there. Though if it was particularly noticable then i would be bothered. Also, unless it was a custom bass, i wouldn't expect any bass to be exactly how i wanted it to be. Thankfully my corvette is pretty much that, if it had a mid knob, it would be perfect In your case, i wouldn't be too bothered by the blemish, after all, it will have been handled by actual people in the factory and humans aren't perfect. Though i would at least expect them to be able to sink a screw straight.... i might be inclined to say something about that.

Anyone Ever Been Too Drunk Or Stoned?
Yeah I should point out that all my stories were before I was 21, and I'm always straight on stage these days, wouldn't think of drinking or anything else before a show.
I've never had a drink before a gig (mainly because i've not had a gig since i turned legal), but i tend to loosen up a bit at band practice after a drink or two, but not so much that my playing suffers (much). Onr of my bands practices at a social club you see -
yeah i'd have thought if it wasn't genuine the burst would have been over the front contour too. As people say, they may have come with those knobs, but someone could just have easily have changed them anyway. Looks genuine enough.

Thanks And i knew it was tuned lower than E! but yeah, they have some real snarl to them those vigiers, i want one now!

is that first bass strung B-D? That low B sounds amazing either way

Anyone who is interested in trying out different effects should go there.
Yeah i've been in there a couple of times, they've got some really great gear and their service is top notch -
Hi Interested in why you say this. I have a OLP MM3 and rather like the passive tone, it has a nice bark to it. However I have never played the real thing so cant really compare. Am thinking of replacing the cheap electronics at some point but now wondering if I should go active? I have passive (pre) and active EQ (post) on my pre-amp already, would there be any value add in going active? Thanks BTW the OLP is rather good value IMHO. Electrics are a bit flimsy but it's lovely to play, sounds great and is very good looking.
I might be talking complete tosh, but i think the preamp adds a bit of punch to the sound, even when run flat. i have a project mm bass that was running passive for a while, and i just couldn't get the sort of "in your face-ness" that my EBMM had. Plus i prefer to be able to shape my sound from the bass and run my amp pretty much flat, but that's just the way i do it. You should try out a stingray and see what you think of the electronics. You never know, passive basses could be just the ticket for you. Personally, i can't stand them.

OLP basses are very nice for the money, i think it would suit the sound you're looking for more than the dean, though personally i haven't played one for a while. I think i did have a go on luke's (known as Tait round here) olp HH model, and it was a nice bass, or i at least heard it being played and it was a very funky sound. You can't go too far wrong with them, though as rayman said, they're not comparable to a real musicman. the build quality isn't good, they don't feel as good as the real thing and the sound isn't quite the same. Also i wouldn't imagine one of the passive ones would be as good at all... a passive musicman style bass seems to defeat the object a little bit to me. But, i think it should be a decent enough bass for you, and if you can find one you like then go for it. Alternatively, you could go for a squier vintage modified jazz or something. It won't have the growl of the musicman-ness of the OLP, but it would still be a damn good bass and pretty funky sounding too if you played/eq'd it right.

fair enough, the active one should have a stacked pot. It's a nice bass though for sure -

£649 isn't a bad price in the current climate, but i can't afford that right now! Is it an active or passive one? If it's passive i may have to, well, pass! Oh and i'm pretty sure none of the corvettes come with fret markers, i've never seen one with fret markers infact. -

nah i'm at confetti on convent street, behind oceana. Stoney street is adams right? The gibsons at fuzz seem to be pretty well priced, well, apart from the ones that were stupidly expensive in the first place. Give me a faded SG any day they have a couple of stingrays in there now though. I have to say, out of all the models in the ebmm lineup and all the colours and pickup configurations, i was pretty disappointed that they chose two single humbucker stingrays in black/black/maple and sunburst/rosewood. Generic much?
