1. Spirit Of Radio by Rush Black Dog by Led Zep especially when played correctly when the guitar riff/bassline goes out of time with the drums.
2. My Musicman Stingray played through a Trace stack. Too damm heavy - gave me hernia - had to sell.
3. You really should get something for that cough !!!!
4. I played in a Free tribute band for two years and obviously had to play it. The original has no bass over the verses, so you do the same - nothing, I usually had a swig of drink. It really makes me cringe when I see a naff pub covers band bass player actually playing an A to D over the verses.
5. We have been advertising for a new vocalist for 4 months now. All we seem to get is time wasters, this "music business" does seem to have a lot of them. We have advertised on Join My Band and clearly state genuine enquiries only - no time wasters. What really frustrates me is that they respond to the advert and then you waste time chasing them up due to no further response.
6. Referring to the posted video clip - Blokes your age - you all need a damn good haircut
7. I was in a four piece band and three of us were Steve's.
8. Yes I did see that in your previous posts - he's a British chap currently living in Belgium. If he wins, he could end up representing Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest
9. I wish your pal luck - but Belgium is hardly the centre of the musical talent ,I'm racking my brain to think of any musical talent that has emerged from that country. The coaches - Jali Chimene Badi Stanislas Beverly Jo Scott Never heard of any of them. Your pal David probably has more talent than all of them put together, let alone be judged by them.
10. Firstly I was a big fan of the Feelgoods. This performance by Wilko and his band was dreadful, as I watched it I said to my wife that they would not even get a gig at our local pubs playing like that.
11.
Duffy does a pretty good version in the soundtrack for The Boat that Rocked.
Duffy who. She was all over the place at one time, now you never here of her.
12.
Nah, they were professionals!!
8 musicians and 5 vocalists, bloody brilliant, apparently most of the band are rated session players.
13. We had our company Christmas party in London at the weekend. Our American owners flew in employees from all around the world making around 500 people attending. The party venue was The Guildhall in London, an amazing building with loads of history. The live band were absolutely amazing, they are called Get Funked, a 13 piece outfit, superb musicians and vocalists. Has anyone on here seen them or maybe their bass player posts on this site. www.getfunked.com
14. From personal experience I would not recommend it. Played in a four piece where the vocalist also sang in two other bands, an absolute nightmare, double bookings, conflict of loyalties. Played in a four piece with all four of us playing in other bands, booking gigs was the main issue, try finding a Friday or Saturday night when all four are not playing with their other bands, resulted in the band folding through lack of gigs.
15. Spotted it in the TV Guide. I'll definitely be setting the recorder tonight.
16.
Fair enough. I must have a higher pain threshold (or cloth ears!) because I've heard a lot worse
Watching Jools Holland's show every week has raised your bad music threshold !!!!
17. I enjoyed the documentary, it took me back to the 70's when we used to gate crash parties armed with tins of Party 7, listening to the Genesis Live album. Banks came across as a right miserable old git though.
18.
Each to their own. I'd rather go and see an original band I haven't heard before.
I played in a Free tribute band for a few years, absolutely loved playing those bass lines. Just watch Jools Hollands show every week , that usually shows the quality (usually lack of) original bands you have not heard of before. Went to see Limehouse Lizzy a couple of months ago, a fabulous tribute band and importantly excellent musicians to boot.
19. Brave for doing the gig. The question I would be asking myself would be - if it was any of your other band members, would they have done the same?
20.
I dreaded Sunday evenings. Jeez, from about 5pm on it was purgatory! Religious programmes and un-funny sh*t like Dad's Army and weird music shows with acapella groups ( the Swingle Singers) and tawdry folk acts. Grim indeed!
Dads Army - un-funny sh*t , your opinion. Lots of folks will disagree.
21. A pretty poor line up for a special show. I personally found it embarrassing watching Ray Davies, he was totally out of it, off time and key. I know he's getting on a bit, but if older vocalists cannot hack it, they should either bring the pitch down to a level for which they can comfortably sing or possibly give up performing live. Age should not really stop good vocalist still performing live, two that come to mind are Paul Rodgers and Tom Jones - they still seem to belt them out.
22. Mayer Hawthorne - The stars are ours. Sounding very much like Steely Dan - bloody good though.
