2.
I had a pee next to Johnny Vegas at some services on the M1, and he didn't wash his hands either.
Dirty Bastard.
 3.
Depends on your guitarist, if they don't have a particularly big or dirty sound a bit extra on the riff can actually rescue an otherwise 'thin' sounding version, played it loads of times in jams with various people and once or twice I've noticed a look of panic come over thme when I leave them to play it solo. It's just a question of not over egging it. I usually double up with an A an octave up so it's not too low a register, fits fine. Can also help a novice drummer keep the rhythm too.
Sacrilege Sir, If the guitarist cannot manage to get a "big or dirty" sound and has nothing but a "thin and weedy" sound, I personally would not attempt to play the song. The guitar riff is fairly simple, made up of an A chord with an inverted D chord plus getting the right feel.
 4.
was going to suggest asking for any recording of their previous gigs, but the above is probably better as you'll get to see how they are on stage.
I'm checking out one of their gigs next week. I will be observing the bass player like a hawk to see if he is playing everything as per the recordings.
 5. I have been offered a job as second/depping bassist for a band who play covers to a very high level i.e exact as the songs were recorded. It will probably involve up to twenty gigs a year so its well worth doing and I really like the material. What worries a bit, is that I need to learn all the set in my own time but only have the opportunity of one rehearsal with the band before going out playing live with them. I know I have the competence to play the songs to the level they require but I don't think I would feel comfortable only having the opportunity to rehearse once with the band before going out live. Here is the set list, what are your thoughts? HANGING ON THE TELEPHONE – BLONDIE SHE SELLS SANCUARY – THE CULT YOU KNOW MY NAME – CHRIS CORNELL FEELING GOOD – MUSE ALIVE – PEARL JAM AINT NO LOVE – WHITESNAKE RHIANNON – FLEETWOOD MAC WHAT IS AND WHAT SHOULD – LED ZEP KASHMIR – LED ZEP MISIRLOU – PULP FICTION/DALE KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA – MUSE HYSTERIA – QUEENS OF STONE AGE ONE WAY OR ANOTHER – BLONDIE LITTLE WING – HENDRIX/SRV VOODOO CHILE/WHOLE LOTTA LOVE – HENDRIX/LED ZEP BARRACUDA – HEART ROXANNE – POLICE UNIVITED – ALANIS MORISSETTE ROCK AND ROLL – LED ZEP LIVE AND LET DIE – WINGS/GUNS AND ROSES CALL ME – BLONDIE FOOL FOR YOUR LOVING – WHITESNAKE WHITE RABBIT – JEFFERSON AIRPLANE BLACK DOG – LED ZEP ZOMBIE – THE CRANBERRIES YOU OUGHTA KNOW – ALANIS MORISSETTE HIGHWAY TO HELL – ACDC NO ONE KNOW – QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE CHAIN – FLEETWOOD MAC SWEET HOME ALABAMA – LYNYRD SKYNYRD PURPLE RAIN – PRINCE
 6.
Hi All, I have only now noticed that during the bass solo of Alright Now by Free there is a run up half way through the solo. I have bought the Tab book music for this and its not been transcribed. I have been trying to make out whats going on but cant quite get it. Does anyone no what notes are playing to create the small run up?
A fabulous song that always goes down well. I have seen some bass players in bands absolutely destroy this classic by playing their bass over the guitar riffs in the verses, really naff. The bass only comes in on the chorus and during the guitar solo, it gives you time to have a sip of drink during the verses.
 7.
I always liked the solo from Free's live version of Mr Big. Not strictly a solo, but the bass takes over the lead. Very simple but very effective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGODVQmcEu8 About 4:15 in.
+1000 The legendary Andy Fraser on bass. It's certainly not very simple - try playing it note perfect with his feel.
 8. Our bass player worked it out years ago, some of the runs are difficult on a 4 string, best done on a 5 string to try and replicate the sound.
 9.
I came across this doing a google...This Link
Hi Pete, Just PM'd you re - Free.
 10. I have one on my Stingray and have the same issue with moisture getting underneath it.
 11. Two guys in our band have endorsements. Jeff the drummer is endorsed by DW Drums. Steve the guitarist is endorsed by Cornell Amps. I'm not sure what type of deals they are on, the only thing I see is on our band posters which feature DW and Cornell.

 18. The two main criteria for the job are - 1 - Be able to play Bass. 2 - Be able to SWIM!!
 19. Hi, I play in a band called Stealer. STEALER are a Five piece band from East Anglia whose aim is to capture the sound and feel of the great Rock/Blues band FREE. Along with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and Cream, FREE were one of the most influential bands to come out of the 1960's, playing their mixture of rock and blues styles, they were at the forefront of the British Blues boom in the mid to late sixties. STEALER recreate the sound and vibe of that pioneering decade with visual effects and an authentic sound, as well as a look that harks back to the Woodstock era. 20. Cracking band on Rockpalast last night on the German channel. I.M.F. and the bass player TM Stevens - awesome. Check out a clip of him. TM Stevens Bass
 21.
Hi folks! I wonder if you can help me with a little problem? As I understand it, my fretting hand shouldn't be supporting any of the weight of the neck. This is the playing position that feels comfortable to me: And here's what happens when I let go: It's not a massive problem; I don't have to hold the neck up much, but supporting the weight still makes my left hand much less mobile and so affects my playing. Am I making a fuss about nothing? If I shorten or lengthen the strap as much as possible, it doesn't really help - the bass still wants to "settle" in that near-horizontal position, and in addition it makes the playing angle more awkward for both hands. The strap I'm using is a fairly slippery nylon job; I thought maybe if I picked up a leather one with a rougher back it might keep the neck up a bit better by stopping the strap sliding over my left shoulder. Does this sound like a good idea? And finally, is this generally what happens with a Precision shape, or is this one just poorly balanced because it's a cheapo Squier?
Top of the serious neck dive category must be the Gibson SG bass, I have to play one and it's terrible, let go and the headstock will hit the floor.
 22. Preferably looking to join an existing band but would consider a new project. Experienced player, Pro gear, own transport and will commit. Most styles but I definitely cannot slap.
 23. Superb TV last night on the WDR German channel - Rockpalast featuring Tower of Power. Awesome soul/funk band that has been around for over forty years - seriously good bass player.
