Corvettes can do a pretty decent job at the Zender tone tbh. I think you will love it. A Stage 1 however has a bit of a rumbling growl that makes it sit in the mix quite differently then other Warwicks. Zender's bass was a Stage2 with Stage 1 woods if I remember correctly. Because a lot of bands and their egos simply suck and because they are sick of playing 12 bar blues crap all evening at the local jamsessions where guitarplayers keep playing never ending solos on the same theme all night every week.

Nice thread and welcome to the 2010's. I already knew and admire 5 out of these 10 great players, MarloweDK probably being the most wel known contributing bassist of this time. The internet and youtube in particular has become my number one resource for learning new techniques and songs. I think it is totally brilliant we can watch and learn from guys like this, MarloweDK (who's real name is Thomas Risell by the way) has a clear way of explaining new techniques that can be understood by both new and experienced players. His website playbassnow.com is one of the greatest resources available for any learning bassist and highly recommended. Another great bassist sharing knowledge is a person you can also find on this forum. His name is Scott Devine and he runs scottsbasslessons.com. Also highly recommended! One more note: Chris Squire cannot be copied. He is a virtuoso. You can play the same licks but it will never sound the same. Miguel comes close I do agree but no, he's not there yet.

Doug Pinnick is 62 and still one of the coolest bassists on the planet imho. Don't worry lads age is not the issue. Where I used to ring up my buds saying "let's jam tonight" nowadays its "can we jam in three weeks time?" I am currently 44 years old. I miss kinda the pontaneousness of it all, everything has to be "organized" these days...

As great basses like Warwick neckthru models are fairly cheap on the secondhand market a lot of people can afford playing one. This is a good thing for the players and the brand name. You honestly think I'd pay around 4.5k to 5k euro for a Dolphin or Streamer 5 string when I can get a used one for way under the 2k mark? Niche basses drop in value by 50% or more soon as you walk out of the shop doors, regular basses like an american built J or P, Ric 4003 only drop a little and their value remains pretty much steady until they become regarded as 'vintage'.

"a real bass has four strings" is something I usually get when visiting the local jamsessions. The guitarist saying that then usually proceeds to play an hour lasting solo while demanding I stick to the root notes of his 12 bar blues scheme... The pale looks on their faces is usually nothing short of EPIC when you pull a 5 or 6 string non-lined fretless out of your gigbag. ;-) Times have changed my dear guitardists and no a bass player is not someone who failed at playing guitar. Our instrument (electric bass guitar) and its role in modern music as evolved SO much over the last 3 or 4 decades! I believe even more so then ANY other instrument. Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply trying to force his own limitations onto you. Stay away from such people as much as you can. I LOVE using effects, they can be a great source of inspiration and bring a unique atmosphere to the music. As with everything in music it is not wat you use but how you use it.

I have a small clone here but never use it for bass as I feel it is too hefty. The pedal might simply not be fit for what you want. -

Reaper kept crashing on my win7 64bit system. I ended up purchasing Cubase Artist 6.5 which is simply awesome software imho.

W bridges from the mid nineties are terrible. The gaps are simply to small! The 5 and 6 string versions are also prone to collapse under the force of the strings. I drilled my B string side to make the gap bigger but ended up deciding to just get a new bridge. The current ones are a lot better and do not have these problems at all.

Haha drama drama drama! New warwick basses are priced pretty high, lately for some reason prices on them skyrocketed. As they are niche basses the good thing is on the second hand market prices are much more realistic and steady. I bought all my Warwicks used, makes me able to sell one and buy another every once in a while without losing too much money.

As music is almost purely emotion, you shouldn't be wanting to justify desiring to play it on a wonderful and inspiring instrument imho. I bought my rickenbacker because I have been dreaming of sounding like Chris Squire for years! It doesn't have to make sense its only human...

Check out Tech21 vtbass and MXR M80 vids on the toob. I haven't regretted buying the mxr for a second. Best pedal I have!
