1. Final two versions, with sweet Wengé & Zebrano and a slightly fatter body model. This is where I will stop. This is my dreambass.
2. Haha. Well It is the reader's own responsibility to judge the content whilst reading forums. There's a couple of rules of thumb though: When you ask "what is good for ..." most forumites will tell you what they have themselves. Not a lot of people (apart from those working in a guitarshop or writing reviews for magazines) have enough insight to be able to answer these kinds of questions. Keep that in mind. When asking (complaining) about technical issues with your gear, keep in mind that here also, half the people answering might not be knowledgable and are purely guessing or passing through info they read elsewhere. See a luthier / tech instead. This goes for almost any forum. Idea: have a technical questions section on bc where answers can be rated. The people answering these questions build up a score so the ones asking questions can roughly guess who they are dealing with.
3. It is not intended to be an improvement, just a different model, kinda like with the Thumb nt and sc models. I'd like to try one if it were real and probably gas for one.
4. Might look nice, but it is not a Dolphin anymore that way.
5. Here she is with the original image that served for the mockup job. Body is slimmer as it was looking horrible (in a humpback whale fashion) otherwise.
6. Look for a (used) EBMM Sterling (not "sterling ray" or "sterling by musicman" but the real thing) with hb/sc/sc switch. Neck is thinner then that of a ray and it sounds really good with lots of punch. Edit: like such!
7. ... After it had been tortured the night before (for its own good ofc.)
8. When we want to change a song's feel we usually first play the structure of it to a different rhythm, in a different tempo. This will make you automatically come up with another bass groove or even a whole different bass line in the same key. Jam till its phat and whoop there it is.
9. Sarge (of Quake II fame) demanding wax the wick.
10. "Bass is gonna be run through our D.I. and floormonitors only" "We don't need to do a soundcheck on the bassguitar" "Here's your three coupons for drinks on this festival" "Sorry I read nothing about food in your contract, must have missed something?" "Stage mix will be done by one of our trainees" "sh*t he brought his girlfriend"
11. I use an ms60b for quick recording of ideas. Just plug it into the laptop and off we go. Wouldn't ever gig with it though, everything but the delays and tremolo effect on it is pretty poor quality. The od and fuzz effects in there are horrible and the amp modelling is a joke. Get a used market bass pod xt or a pod x3 instead if you want something that does it all. Me I'll stick to analog stompboxes. Pricey but much more satisfying.
12. OTOH be it just a little teeny tiny bump. You selling them all voodoosnake?
13. Nice! I tried several types of strings on mine before settling for standard slinkies. Low Riders sound very very good on a lolphin as well. Not that I care a great deal about strings, I just find it convenient to use the same on all basses. The others were all wearing slinkies already so...
14. If I'd sell my Ric 4003 stating its a copy, while it isn't ... would I be haunted by mr. hall? That would be like a copy infringement using real rics. Is that illegal? Ow never mind.
15. Compressor comes last unless you got some EHX pedals that can't handle the signal coming from an active bass and start to fart out - then you put the comp in front and lower the signal level going through the rest of your fx chain.
Anyone tried the defretting effect... Is it any good??
Yes... No, Boss do a better job at defretting effects.
17. Yawn. The bass playing is what sets metal bands apart (as with any music). If the bass is off or simply uninspired (played like a guitarplayer would) the band will be boring and crap. Bass no function in metal? Get informed before spewing out more nonsense.
18. My amp is an old trace elliot rah600smx, which has two output stages with a lot of options. I have been testing things using a 410 and 115 cabinet. Crossover frequency can be set anywhere between 250hz and 1khz. Ended up running the amp in dual mono mode and skipping the crossover section completely. Crossed at any freq over the sound was simply horrible. Todays 2x10 and 4x10 cabs are tuned at what, 40hz? There is no need for using any form of corossover anymore. You could split the signal and run one pickup through a bass stack and the other through a guitar stack with crunch/overdrive though. That rocks!
19. I went from a 40kg 4x10 to a 55kg 2x15. Why? The 4x10 had to be lifted into the car. The 2x15 can be tilted into the car without really lifting it. Handles and casters attached. Much better!
20. No bassman344. Apples and oranges. I play rics, jazzes, precisions, warwicks, ebmm. All are great sounding and playing basses, no issues there. Each bass model has their unique voice and qualities. Whether you like a certain tone has nothing to do with quality, we call this "personal taste". For heavy/modern stuff I bring the Warwick or EBMM Sterling which sound pretty hi-fi. For slap I got this Marcus Miller signature active Jazz and for oldskool tone nothing kills the Ric and Precision sounds, of which I use the Ric most as it is capable of more different tones (Precision is a one trick pony really). If you can't get along with a Ric either your technique is simply poor or you bought the wrong instrument for your personal taste. Simply blaming the instrument is rather foolish. Others before you got great results playing their Ric, Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Justin Chancellor, Trevor Bolder, Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, Roger Glover, Glenn Hughes, Paul McCartney to name a few.
