1. Depends on the bass model. On my Precision and ric I have moderate action because I don't want any fretnoise on those. On the Marcus Miller jazz, EBMM Sterling and Warwick I have my action low as possible because I do want fretnoise on those when I dig in.
2. I tried the brightbox both horizontal and vertical. There is no difference in the sound whatsoever (even when walking up n down the room) by putting it up straight so it is going to remain horizontal.
3. Rockschool? What nonsense is this? One goes to school to learn useful stuff and rock out with the band to forget that stuff. Don't combine rock & school. Disasters will be prone.
4. That bass probably has leds in the fretboard. Not all those batteries are for the preamp.
5. Not having a volute is not a good thing if you or a co-musician is having a habit of knocking basses from their stands. Either is perfectly playable btw... Have you ever seen the back of the neck near the headstock on an old Ric 4001? I wonder if that would be in the way. Anyway, let's talk Warwicks.
6.
Any experiences of a fretless 5 string dolphin pro 1 2001ish with Bart soap bars against an 89 4 string with Bart mm + j ? Owned the 4 for many years and may now have found a 5 for sale. Curious how the sound is with differents pickups and later manufacturing compares? What's a fair price for a 5 like this?
I owned both the '89 bartolini sc + hb fit and a '91 broadneck fretless 5str with bartolini soapbars. The '89 is king of the midrange and punches through any mix better then ANY other bass I have ever heard. The bn fl with soapbars however had a much broader palette of tones and has a lot more bottom end that you can dial in. I would buy that bass in a heartbeat if I didn't already own a '95 regular neck 5str with MEC pre + pups on, which to me is the best sounding of the bunch. Value of that five string? 1500 quid is a good estimate made by Kev.
7. In the nineties I often visited a great coverband with lads from Liverpool, their bassplayer was using a Karlson cab with 15" speaker with an old Ibanez Musician bass. His tone was stellar.
8. Gigging is so much fun! In fact a great gig gives you more happyface energy then anything else. Your grin wil last the whole week. So indeed. Grab yourself by the balls and get out there, soldier! Don't be shy. When you're on stage you are up here and they are down there. You win. Wahooooo! Make those chicks shake their stuff like gigglywiggly.
9. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Now I am more inclined to put it upright. Will get back on this soon as the band had practice night. Cheers, Marco
10. Ow and comb filtering? The 2x15 doesn't go above 4kHz and the brightbox not under 4kHz.
11. It will fall if I use it upright. I use it for more clarity in personal monitoring only. Besides that, Trace Elliot put rubber feet under it so they reckoned this position is okay too... But I will put it upright next week to see if I notice any improvement. Thanks for the tip.
12. [Img]http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/5936/ikie.jpg" class="ipsImage" /> Exterminate!
13. For a second I thought that it said Baerfaced. Ow never mind.
14. I'd have ignored the crap out of him. That wasn't the time or the place to discuss technique. It WAS the time and place to be relaxed and have a couple of pints while enjoying the band. The question you should have asked him is this: IS THAT YOU MOM?
15. Could spray a union jack on there and have a britbox...
16. First get the OD pedals, then see if you will need an EQ.,, My 12band EQ on the Trace Elliot is usually switched OFF.
17. Here's a clip I made using a Warwick Dolphin Pro 1. It has four parts: Direct, through VTbass for mild ampeg buzz, then through Darkglass Vintage Microtubes and finally Through the Darkglass B3K. Hope this helps you decide on what kind of tone you're looking for. http://elevenband.nl/krupp/Dolphin_vtbass_vintagemicrotubes_b3k.mp3
18.
Try a Zoom
GRMBL! Will check out a TS based circuit if I get the chance to. Another option is dragging along multiple basses and use the Sterling for the clean stuff only.
19. I lost track I think. Sold two Warwick Dolphin Pro 1 basses, an SWR WorkingPro 115, an Ibanez Promethean combo and a lot of effects. Bought: Fender Precision NM signature Fender Jazz MM signature Ric 4003 EBMM Sterling bass A 1961 Gibson SG (not a reissue, the real thing) Ibanez FR320 guitar Trace Elliot AH300-12 Trace Elliot RAH600SMX Trace Elliot 2x15 cab Trace Elliot Brightbox Pearl Wood Fiberglass drumkit from 1972 Roland TD4 digital drumkit Lots of cymbals Samson 900w powermixer with monitors Some Sennheiser and Shure mics Darkglass pedals Steinberg Cubase 6.5 Artist FXpansion BFD2 Its been a good year, in which I made my return to being a musician besides a father and husband.
20. Hi, I own five basses: - Fender Jazz Bass (active) Marcus Miller Signature Olympic White. - Fender Precision Bass Nate Mendel Signature with quarterpounder pu. - Rickenbacker 4003 - Warwick Dolphin Pro1 5str - Music Man Sterling Bass Recently I have purchased some new dirtboxes in my everlasting quest for great overdriven tone. So far the list of dirtboxes owned/tested is this: - MXR M80 - MXR El Grande - EHX Big Muff - EHX Bass Big Muff - Boss ODB3 - Tech21 VTbass V2 - Darkglass B3K - Darkglass Vintage Microtubes With the Fenders, Ric I can get good results using most of these pedals, the Warwick is in a league of its own and makes anything you hook it up with sound good. The Sterling sounds REALLY good dry. It makes you start to play Flea-esque stuff whether you want to or not, simply encourages rhythmic playing. Every note is like a kick in the butt. I love this bass! Here's my problem: Kicking in any form of dirt (even the mighty B3K pedal!) makes it sound weaker then it is without that dirt. My questions: 1. Do I want to solve this and if so, how? Maybe within the mix of other instruments it won't be such a problem? 2. Anyone else experiencing this type of problem with their Sterling or Stingray?
