1.
Slam... that sort of describes it. Heavy Slam, it sounds a lot better than the EVO III I had, the eq seems more accurate and it's loud through a Barefaced 4x10. I have the pre shape button out, so a bass heavy scoop? Then cut the bass and boost the life out of the mids. It works great with fingers but be careful as the eq is very powerful. Oh, the treble knob doesn't do a great deal. I haven't really had chance to try the drive, not interested in the octaver thing but did use the compressor to smooth things out. I'm impressed. I need a bit more time with the eq and drive though... It's not a Trace Elliot and doesn't sound like one, it sounds like an Ashdown and that's what I need to work with. Go try one, you can thank me later...
3. I'd try the Stoneham and the Orange. Stoneham are near Silverlink and come across as very knowledgeable. He has one in his workshop ready to try... I had an Orange about 25 year ago, played it through an old Peavey 8×10. My good friend still tells me it's the best sound I've ever had...
4. Bought my Soul Food. Very easy to deal with. Cheers
5. Flat? The CTM sounds pretty much the same no matter how you eq it. Luckily the basic clean sound is awesome...
6. Offerings....
7. Shergold to me is Bernard Sumner in Joy Division. That site could not be any further away from that image. The guitars may fantastic and I look forward to seeing the designs for a new bass but...
8. Peavey- made in USA PMS replied too
9. It's what I paid for it... just passing it on.

13. The ABM EVO IV 600 has a 9 band eq... 3 knobs plus 6 sliders. I'm quite impressed by the one I've recently bought.
14. Practice is off but just had a quick go on the EVO IV... first impression is it's tight and punchy. Going from memory it has a different feel to the sound compared to the EVO III and that's with dead strings and fingers. Roll on next practice that's when I really know what's what.
15. That sounds great. What's the bass set up and how did you record it?
16.
Nice one. Look forward to hearing your thoughts
I had the EVO III and it was great with a pick but I couldn't get the tightness and bite I get from my TE AH600-12 when using my fingers, so it went. EVO IV sounds like an improvement going by the limited reviews. Shame no one has done a useful YouTube video.
17. I've gone for it. Should land Tuesday, just in time for band practice. Fingers crossed.
18. Sid Viscous or Simon Gallop
19.
You have got me worried now. I bought a TE AH 600, 7 band eq, made in the US, brand new last year. Are they deemed as unreliable?
Don't worry about it.
20.
Well, rightly or wrongly I went for it and was lucky enough to pick up an AH600-12 at a very good price tonight. I'll let you know my thoughts once I've picked it up and given it a blast 😜
I prefer my ah600-12 over my 1225v which I have owned since new. It's far more versatile. It'll be interesting to read your thoughts. I've never owned any of the SMX range to compare it against the Peavey products.
21. I'm in the same situation as you Damon. I heard one at the North East bass bash last year and it sounded very promising. Unfortunately, finding one to try out is now proving to be a challenge... and the new price has rocketed in the last 6 month. I should have coughed up last year when I found a new one for just over 700... typical.
22. I own an AH600 12 made by Peavey. I bought it second hand last year, it's had an anode resistor and capacitor changed in the valve stage just last week due to an on going noise that took a bit of tracing. Other than that it's great. Very loud, I bought a Retroglide 800 to use while this was being worked on, It isn't in the same league sound wise or for punch. I normally use the TE with every thing on, valve drive blend at max but drive at zero. The compression on but set very low and pre shape on. Tight and punchy with a bit of grind. If I could find another manufacturer that gave me the same sound but from a new product I'd buy that. Let's see what the new Trace Elliot comes up with.
23. £999 at PMT for the 20th anniversary head... is that high for a UK built hand wired head? I've got a feeling it's probably a fair price. Still a lot of money.
24. The pedal looks useful, not sure about the head, okay as a home practice amp? Unless that's true TE watts. Bring out the big guns please. I want power. Heavy TE power.
