1. ...and as the original owner of this bass (ordered it from Carvin) I too can vouch for it's amazingness. I strung it F# B E A D and it took it no problem.
2. Will someone please take this before I do something I regret involving selling a kidney...
3. My old bass! (And my wall too !) Has it still got the Tort pick-guard on it? Cracking P. GLWTS. Sorely tempted to buy it back.
4. So I'm at my parents house for Broadstairs folk week. The theme of which is "Reduce, reuse, recycle." It's also "Make your own instrument" day at hobby horse club tomorrow. So George will be sporting a rather natty custom made upright bass.... It sounds quite upright like, but its very very quiet.
5. Bumparooney. Make me an offer, or it's off to the 'bay with this one :-|
6. Oli bought by ACG. Excellent communications, nice bloke, on time. Nothing not to like.
7. Bump: yes Chuck, it's still available!
8. Any interest in a Les Paul Supreme? It's a Les Paul, but with a chambered body to keep the weight down (which may help with the back). I bought it from Andertons from new but haven't taken it off the wall in ages. It should be played.
9. For sale - firefire audio interface. Official web-site: http://www.presonus....ucts/firestudio They go new for this much: http://www.guitargui...2OspYrw0fvw_wcB Although... they're discontinued. The reason for sale is that my OSX computer just updated itself to 10.9.3 - and sadly, according to the Presonus web-site this is no longer supported. I can assure you it stopped working as soon as the update restarted the machine. I have tested it on a Windows 7 machine, and it's fine, so it's only an issue for those of us with up-to-date Macs. Damnit. So I've owned it since new, about 4 years. It's lived in a rack in my smoke free studio. Anyway, asking £200, feel free to make me an offer. Open for trades, although not sure what I need. Whoops, should have dusted it before taking this photo. This one's a bit cleaner.
10. Sorry for the delay in replying. Couple of PM'd questions. There is one 'mark' on the back of the bass, where it's been put down without due care & attention. That's all that's big enough to photograph. The Nut width is, I recon, about 40mm. The photo is a bit offset. The neck is asymetrical and very comfy under the hand. Hope this helps.
11. GONE - SOLD - KAPUT - SAYONARA - AU REVOIR Up for sale is my ACG J-Type. • Alder Body • Grunge Black Finish • 3 Piece Maple Neck • Rosewood Fingerboard • Satin Finish • ACG SB Pickups • Hipshot Bridge and Gotoh Tuning Pegs • East Custom U-Retro Preamp The acg original page is here: http://www.acguitars...-type-4-string/ I got AGC to change the hardware to black and add a HipShot d-tuner. Looks great IMHO. No major dings; but this is a used bass so there is the occasinoal mark. Comes with original (soft) case and straplocks. I've owned it since new. Balances beautifully and has a great variety of sounds thanks to J-Retro pre-amp. Sale is inspired by the fact I have an Xotic p-bass and this never gets a look in. Bass is in Chertsey area (TW20) and can be delivered to central London on a week-day. Buyer pays shipping. Priced to move! Not interested in trades really, but you can try me...
12. I keep coming back to this and dribbling into my keyboard. Have an "If only I could justify it" bump on me.
13. I keep coming back to this one. Sadly all I have to offer in trade is a winning smile and a bass that cannot be named on this forum. Neither of which are on your trades list.
14. You didn't immediately think of the Cheap Shots? Shame on you!
15. I'd like to try it, in either 4 or 5 string guise. Had a bash on one at the errr... bash. It were right tasty.
16. Re: the dot inlays. I had a p-bass from '04 (http://basschat.co.uk/topic/201043-fs-fender-usa-precision-2004-sold-gone-au-revoir/page__fromsearch__1) that had the same thing happen to the black inlays: I just assumed it was the lacquer lifting away from the plastic. You can see it in this picture best:
17.
I can't be the only one who read the thread title as 'Pirates didn't play bass' and opened it immediately? :/
I thought we were talking about this bloke.
18. A friend of mine had an 'Axe' bass that he bought from an advert in Kerrang. I borrowed it for a week in an attempt to set it up. It went back fairly quickly with a "sorry, not much I can do". Advert is on this page: http://stuartclayton.com/about-stuart/biography/ Worst sort of budget trash from the late 1980s. Made Marlin look like a quality brand, and my Westone Concord look like a pre-CBS....
19. Provided you don't have to learn them all at once for the first rehearsal... I think we've got a back catalogue of about 200 songs, over the 4 years we've played together. Some we've only done once (e.g. View to a kill, the Bond theme tune, 'wish I was James Bond' for a 'Bond' themed night), some we've played almost every gig (Disco Inferno and Le Freak). Having said that, you're going to be able to play what, 35 ish per gig...? And about 50% of those are going to be your wedding standards. (Celebrate good times, etc ad nauseum) so maybe he's being a bit demanding. Is he expecting to have the set list decided on the night by the punters asking for requests?
20. It's a funny one. I, personally, prefer not to play with backing tracks, but I'm quite happy for the keys player to play the horn parts (e.g. we do 'one step beyond' and the keys player plays the song whilst the singer 'mimes' on a plastic toy saxophone) But to the OP: you have to sell what you have, and this sounds perfectly legit to me. I'd play with backing tracks over not playing at all.
21. Personally I've gone the other route: a small USB audio interface into the laptop. Means the bass sound is raw, but you can, if you've got time, work out how to pipe it through a VST or two. They've dropped in price since the early days. I can't comment on quality, but this seems like pretty good value: http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/behringer-guitar-link-ucg102-guitar-to-usb-interface--38128 You can then also record what you're playing if you want.
22.
Absolutely, but I have also found the gig to be the inverse of the previous rehearsal. Great rehearsal, so-so gig, poor rehearsal great gig. Maybe back to expectations again!
+1 No idea why.
23. Oooh. Nice. Is the control plate cover held on with magnets? Can't see any screws...?
