1.
Anyone had a good experience with bow and EUB?
I can honestly say that I haven't. I've been playing my Atelierz Mini-CUB (http://www.atelierz.co.jp/cubpassive.htm) with a bow as I'm still searching for a decent upright that isn't going to cost the earth. The first thing is actually bowing: for some reason I have much more control over an acoustic: the bow tends to run away much less. Dynamics are easier etc. Secondly is the sound. It's REALLY quiet through the on-board magnetic pick-up. I've attached a cheap piezo to the bridge which makes the overall level (arco vs. pizz) much more level. Interested to see how people's mileage varies: I know the Yamaha Silent Bass is designed to be bowed...
 2. When I bought my guitar I only really had one in mind. Sadly it's the predictable Les Paul. Went to Andersons, tried about 15, walked away with the best playing one. Previous to that I had a GS-1. Great guitar.
 3. So http://www.basscentre.com/ claims they're still in Brune street, but when I was there today there was nothing.... well, there was an office where downstairs bit used to be. Wasn't the best shop in the world - but was a great place to kill half an hour playing basses no-one else stocked. Anyone have any ideas what happened?
 4. I was in Footes Music in London & they had one. Although I now can't find it on the web-site.... http://www.footesmusic.com/
 5. Gibbit. I'd love to take it off your hands but I'm in Surrey. Have a bump on me.
 6.
3/4 sized double bass for sale in lovely condition.
Would you consider swaps for a 5-string Bongo or EUB?
 7. Bump. No takers? I'll give it the weekend for offers & then it's going to evil-bay
 8.
Is that a CIJ jb75-100us? if so, how do the fralins compare to the stock pickups?
Very nicely! The stocks were a bit weedy, and never really let the natural sound of the bass through.
Do you think it would be suitable to put in to my fretless Jap Jazz?
Yes, very much so.
 9. *SOLD NO LONGER AVAILABLE* For sale is my East J-Retro active pre-amp. *THE BASS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE* Specs are here: http://www.east-uk.com/jrhome.htm Here it is installed in my Jazz. I put some Lindy Fralin pups in her & they sound so nice passive that I'm thinking it's a waste, plus I need the cash for an upright. I've been a good Dougal and not soldered, but instead used some PC connectors (available at Maplin) so it is as good as new. I'm in Surbiton, but will post (UK domestically only) for cost (?probably about a fiver?).
 10. Beautiful HH Bongo in metallic grey (NOT the peizo bridge model). (Some say it looks like a toilet seat?!?!) I'm sure you know what they go for new. Mine was bought new in Japan (still have original receipt) and has been well loved & played over the last 3 years. Loath though I am to see this go, I'm saving up for an upright. I'm in Surbiton, Surrey, if you want to play it - I work near Bank so if you're in Central London I can get it to you for a play too. It's in good condition apart from the ubiquitous headstock chip (anyone seen a bongo without?) and more seriously a mark on the back of the neck behind the nut (which it came to me with). It doesn't affect the playability in the slightest. See the pics for details. Comes with original hard shell case. Price Drop & now open to trades.

Wooden pickup covers & knobs. Figured top covers entire top. Oil finish. Wenge accent layer. More porn at: http://www.gwbasses.com/projects/archive/index.shtml He's American. With the dollar so weak it made sense... until I had to pay the import tax!!!! ^_^
 13. Hey, bassbloke. I've been having double bass lessons from Ian (http://www.ianbass.co.uk/) who's in Chessington (I'm down the road in Surbiton). He's a really nice guy & knows his stuff. I would suggest having a lesson, so you can at least have a crack. He'll point you in the right direction with basses too. He suggested:
First of all the best place to get a bass from is Malcolm Healey http://www.healeyviolins.com/index.html He's a great bloke and has very fair prices (unlike the Contrabass Shop which is very overpriced!) I'm going to see him on Tuesday so I can see what he's got in stock for you. You should be able to get a reasonable bass for £1-2k, never buy a bass unless you can take it home and try it out for a few days.
14. GW "SC-1" built by Grandon Westlund. In progress: In my sweaty mitts:
