1. Sparkly..... this was last halloween....
2. You could try a 'vintage'. Review Seems about right, price wise?
3. +1 provided it's not too far north (I'm south of the M25 & getting around it can be a pain).
4. Somewhat less bling than some, but mine, none the less: Retrofitted a Nord MM4.2 as the lack of G was particularly noticeable.
5. I had one of those Sound City 120s. Amazing Amps. No idea what happened to it!
6. I think one of these has featured on this thread before when owned by warwickhunt... My #1 bass: a P-J Hybrid Metro, bought on Basschat from Warwickhunt. My #2 bass: an NYC jazz-a-like, bought on baschat from ___---___
7. I've done multiple trips on airlines with a bass in the hold in a hard case. Never had a problem so far. I gaffa over the locks to make sure they don't get accidentally caught, but apart from that, nothing. (You can't lock it flying out of the USA).
8. I think you can add him to a 'don't let these users bid on my stuff' list too. I had to add an exemption from someone in France once as my default is not to ship outside of the country, and I remember seeing an option. I'm pretty sure you can set your preferences to not allow anyone with < 5 feedback to bid as well.
9. I use a couple of horizontal mountings in the man cave: http://www.dv247.com/studio-equipment/quik-lok-gs413--7123 It's mostly the pretty ones that live up there. The heavy usages are on the right at foot level, in a warwick stand. Edit: Just re-read the OP; '... apart from wall hangers...' - ignore me.
10. Walk Don't Run - The Ventures, followed by Apache - The Shadows. I played bass in a 3 piece guitar group run by Tony Buch at Thanet Music Center; I was 11-12(ish) which puts it 1985-6 Weston Thunder 1A bass, into a sound city 15w bass combo. We had a video somewhere. Lost in the mists of time
11.
maybe the wooden covers were too thick, and the actual pickups were too far from the strings. but then the bass would have had a very weak signal...
Yes, that's as Andy explained it. The PUPs were low output to begin with, and forced to be too far away from the strings because of the thickness of the covers.
12. A happy ending :-) It's now got a set of GEMMs in it from Wizard Pick-ups. Attached is a recording, straight into the desk. I think it sounds much better. Andy said it was almost certainly because the wooden pickup covers were getting in the way, and digging out the originals was too hard, so we're back into black plastic but it looks pretty good. Thanks everyone for their input. Enjoy the attachement.
13. <quote> The humble bass guitarist is an under-appreciated beast. Yet try to imagine the last six decades of popular music without James Jamerson, Paul McCartney, John Entwistle, Jaco Pastorious or John Paul Jones, to name but a few. To celebrate the launch of MusicRadar's dedicated bass channel, we asked you to submit your nominations for the greatest electric bassist of all time via Facebook, Twitter and the comments on our original call-to-arms article. </quote> Link: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/the...all-time-279007 I don't agree with the results, or in fact, any "greatest" lists, but it's quite interesting none-the-less.
14. We start with one from the "covers that should be banned list": "Daktota", straight into "ever fallen in love".
15. It's the only time I can dance like "my Dad at a wedding" and have people applaud. When the singer's in the middle of "Sit Down" and pointedly says "Those of you who are touched by madness" whilst giving you that look... I've never had it as bad as the OP. Maybe I'm just not jaded enough.
16. I'm a bit late to the party, but insist everyone learns "Army" by Ben Folds and then take option a). They should get the hint.
17. Well for upright gigs I don't have a choice, but it's a running joke in my band that I always turn up for the gig with this: despite having 4 others to choose from. Course I have to take the Ashbory when the wee man comes too... The USA Saddo may get a look in on Thursday night.
18. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
19. I used occasionally to do a jam night at the grey horse in Kingston, which Robin Bibi set up. Recently a friendly drummer was asking about jam nights in the area, and now that one seems to have died a death. Anyone know of any others? Preferably in Egham, Woking, Guildford or Kingston, but not too fussy...
20.
Yeah, I've got loads of tunes like that. If I've maybe learnt it by memory then hear it after months of playing it the same way and think "So THATS what it goes like!"
Glad it's not just me then.
21. I was originally taught to use downstrokes only. And Bob recons "frog to tip" http://www.gollihurmusic.com/faq/23-ROSIN_...ES_AND_USE.html I have no idea why you wouldn't want to apply it as cellists do (back & forth) but habit dictates.
22. You want linke this, only with velcro? edit: ahh, hence the "better than a schaller" comment. http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1377-...ASS_PICKUP.html
23. So, long story short I have to select two rock-a-billy songs for a charity gig, and I've never played any. Does anyone have any suggested: * artists / songs for something relativly simple but fun to play & listen to and * on-line resources or lessons on how to play rockabilly on the upright. w.r.t. the latter, my bass is set up for classical (my main gig) and I don't intend to change it: will this present a problem?
24.
I haven't mentioned the tone of a bass because I can manage to mangle any of them to sound the same anyway.
LOL. +1.
25. I think it's all been said before, but I have one on my stingray and it's used a /lot/ in the covers band. Now I need another one to be able to drop to C on the sadowsky for Biffy songs!
