1.
Actually, just looked through the Musimas on Cheesyguitars and many of them have Strat-type jacks or conventional-looking sockets. Likely that either later production was changed to make them more compatible or the one I saw had a weird mod. Wish I'd taken some pics now! J.
It wasn't a weird co-ax type thing was it? I've come across that on an old early 60's cheapo before, though I can't remember the brand. I think it might have been a Rosetti or something.
2. Didn't Entwistle trash one of his buzzards outside a studio?
3.
That might have been me, I got a mark III in full working order and a blown/butchered 2x15 for £60, but that was like three years ago. Keep it if you can, i still use mine regularly, proper good amp.
It might well have been you, as I seem to remember that the ad was on Gumtree in Scotland. 3 years ago? Time flies when you're having fun.
4. Going back to the OP, I think part of the problem is that it's difficult for a seller to second guess all the info that a potential buyer might like to know. Some people might think it's obvious that the full wattage is only available with an extra cab - combos with the output wired in series are pretty scarce, so it might not occur to them to point out something which for them just isn't an issue. And, judging by the amount of threads about impedance, there are a fair few people who don't understand how overall impedance affects wattage. (I remember your thread about the H&K, and seem to recall there were a few raised eyebrows that it was wired for a series extension). It might be useful for me to know the flat settings of an amps EQ, but I don't recall ever seeing an ad where this has been given. Why not? Possibly because the seller couldn't know that this might be important to me. And even if they did make a stab in the dark and guess correctly, often the manufacturers don't make this info available - SWR don't shout about their pronounced hump in the mids let alone let on what the the EQ should be set to for a flat response. You're absolutely correct about this not being school though - after school you're rarely spoon fed info and have to research yourself.
5. As I understand it, he wants to use just the one cab for the sake of portability. So he's looking at an 8 ohm cab with a power rating of 250w. And if I remember correctly the Bass Terror has a switch to set the output impedance, much like a valve power amp. So I can understand the quandry. Some good advice from the wiki: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur. Edit: I type waaaay too slowly!
6. Blimey. Deal of the month?
7. Ah - so Go-Go is sort of funky blues? Never heard of that before, must have been leading a sheltered life. I had more of this stuff in mind. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACu2AR7fbCo
8. The Unicorn on the corner of Brecknock Rd and Camden Rd is worth checking out as well. They mostly do rock/metal and it's free entry. I think they still do a jam night, which is always good for making contacts.
9.
Whereas I always say PEAVEY MK IV SM400 SERIES HEAD head should cost around £100, or less. See the appreciation thread get a couple of 8 ohm cabs, perhaps 2 cabs of 1x12. There's a couple of black widows hanging around here recently this rig will collapse houses, have buckets of tone and cost all up under £300 You know it makes sense ! T
Strangely enough I was thinking the same thing, only pairing it with the 2x15. Though your suggestion of cabs would probably work out cheaper once you factor in osteopath fees. Ashdown MAG stuff sells cheaply enough as well, though there's always the question of whether Steve will get along with the tone. It seems to polarise opinions.
10. There's a Traben in the 'for sale' forum, currently being offered for the bottom end of your budget. I've no experience of the brand myself but they're definitely aimed at metal players. Might not be pointy enough for you though!
11. Pretty much like any other classified ads - someone indicates the price they'd like for an item, and from there on everything is negotiable. About the only thing that differentiates the Marketplace forums from any other online ads is the feedback system and being able to see whether they've been a longstanding active member of the forum. If you're looking to sell there is a sticky with the relevant rules in the For Sale forums.
12.
Hmmmm... shouldn't it have the 'stripe' down the back of the neck for the trusrod (given it's a maple board)? Looks dodgy...
Most Fenders in the 60's had rosewood necks, but the maple necks that were produced to order had a glued on board just like the rosewood ones. I'm guessing it was done like that to standardise the production as far as possible.
13.
A million thank yous sir! The sheer joy of playing Jamerson's lines to just the lead vocals is immense. Truly one of the greatest players; both rythm and melody so wonderfully executed. Thank you again. By the way, do you have a link to any more of these multitrack mp3s? Jay.
Those are the only ones with Jamerson I've come across I'm afraid. I know there are Beatles (if that appeals) multitracks floating about, but I didn't bookmark the page where I saw a link to them.
14. Ask him for a Fedora! And welcome to the forum.
15. These things pop up fairly frequently. They've turned up with a variety of brands on the headstock, including Aria (who dubbed it the A-200). There's no guessing what brand this was originally though. If the seller wanted to be more accurate with his listing title he should have put 'Burns (Style) Bass Guitar'.
16. Have a word with Wembley Loudspeakers. Most shops around London that accept drivers for repair ship them off there for the work to be done anyway. A quick check on the Eden site reveals their drivers are made by Eminence, so they'll be using stock parts.
17.
There's no point going over to poke the wasp's nest and then whining when they show up pissed off with you. Leave them crazy people be, I say, at least they seem to be largely self-contained over there, even if it is fun to have a quick peek at the mentallers from time to time. Honestly, the "take a bullet" line... FFS let's not bring that to basschat, please. It raises and interesting issue though. Given how much forums like this are now responsible for instrument reputation and, arguably as a result, sales, I'd be amazed if some companies don't have someone somewhere on forums all the time asking about weak G string output on MusicMans or poking at Fender build quality, for example. The internet is a great place for baseless and outlandish claims which quite frequently are taken as gospel and, let's be honest, something which photographs well will always generate more interest from the masses no matter what it's non-aesthetic features entail. That being said it's just a surprise when the head of the company is capable and seems to revel in generating such bad publicity.
I'd be amazed as well. There's one member here who posts exclusively about a certain brand (always how great they are or explicitly recommending them to others), and occasionally rubbishing the competition. Sometimes he proffers inside info on a forthcoming product because he just so happens to have been in contact with the manufacturer recently. No real proof of course, so I won't be naming and shaming, but I'll remain deeply suspicious until he posts about something (anything!) other than this one brand.

My heart sank when I read Kiwi's post earlier, even though I'd never had the pleasure of meeting him in person. His warmth and humour shone through in his posts and he'll be sorely missed. My condolences to his friends and family.
19. A Shaftesbury perhaps? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RICKENBACKER-BASS-RE...S-/140440003099 Though you'd think a Beatles fanatic would know that it's not just like Paul McCartney's at all. Wonder if that TRC is genuine?
20.
The Italia Rimini Bass looks very very nice, along the lines of the Rickenbacker 4005. How is the build quality on these things? Found it for £399 new, which must mean they knock around the £300 mark second hand...
Or considerably less - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=90280
21. Seriously. I and others on this site have had the front end of Laneys pack up because of dirty contacts on the input jack. Maybe you could describe the problem in a bit more detail and someone might have other suggestions?
22.
Rusty input jack?
+1
23. Shocking. He prevaricated until you were at the studio AND he sent a text? The guy sounds totally spineless. You're better off without them.
24. Sounds like you might have a seized voice coil. The other possibility is that something has got itself stuck between the cone and the frame.
25.
or is it really annoying when you try to keep your basses in good condition, and you find that you have acquired some new dents/dings. i sat down to find that my bass has acquired 3 new impact dings..... i wouldnt mind but ive not touched the thing in 2 weeks.... annoying to say the least
I used to feel the same, but when I got to the three dings mark I adopted noel's approach and haven't looked back since! Edit: It was probably around the same time that I decided that buying used was a much better idea than buying new.
