1. Behringer don't provide RMS figures for the power of their amps, so the actual RMS is likely to be about half of the figure they're stating.
 2. Was I the only one who thought the house bass player with the Dingwall was Crez5150?
 3. Westone Tunder 1A made by the Matsumoku factory in 1983. It's left handed so might sell for a little less than a more common right handed version, but will typically sell for £110-£130 in the UK - sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. Yours looks quite tidy but is in the most common finish. They're lovely basses, and the used price nowadays belies their quality. I suggest you hand on to it and learn to play!
 4. £250-£650 is quite a spread. It might be worth PM-ing Noelk27 or Bloodaxe, as they're both quite up on 80's Aria and might have an idea of what they're selling for at the moment. Quite honestly it's not really the best time to sell.
 5.
Excellent stuff, do you live in the area? LOL yes i do love my Kawasaki and you can regularly find me at Box Hill on a sunday. Thanks for the welcome.
I was brought up in Sutton but moved out in the mid eighties. Still have friends and family there though. Do you still get people tearing along the the A25 on one wheel, chased by a cop on a BM?
 6. Hi Andy, bet I can guess what you ride. My first bass came from a junk shop at the bottom of Sutton High St and my second was from Rockbottom, so we've got a few things in common there. Never had a Z750 though. Welcome to the forum.
 7.
I don't really understand this. Even if an originals band is on a big tour, why the need for PRS at the venues they play? Presumably they'll be getting their cut from the ticket price anyway, so what is the point of the PRS taking another cut of the ticket price which they would, presumably, have to hand over to the band anyway?
I'm a little surprised that you're presuming bands will be getting a cut of ticket sales. Plenty of bands bands get zip in terms of cash for supporting a name act, and plenty more are paying for the privilege.
 8.
I beleive it is now illegal practice to stipulate age/gender limitations in employment ads.Surely they would have ran this by the solicitors before posting here.
There are exemptions if you can demonstrate there is a genuine need for someone of a specific age or sex (gender is a cultural definition, sex is biological). So if it were a 'boy band' for instance the exemption may well be upheld, though only a tribunal could decide that.
 9.
I obviously wasn't clear. I only meant the neck. I have an S9 Precision and the neck dates to early '79 where as the pots are '80. I'm sure the other posts are correct and I meant simply to state that the neck would have been made in 1978.
Not necessarily. The serial number decals came from a parts bin as well.
 10. I'd say that's an eighties bass - the S8***** serials covered up until about 1982. Dots, white 'guard and Morocco Red where all standard by then. It might have a slightly heavier bridge under the cover as well. Edit: Just realised you've said it has gold hardware as well. I didn't know Fender did that option back then.
 11.
I'm surprised this isn't sold already! It usually takes all of five minutes!
Must be a slow time of year - took all of 90 minutes this time!
 12. Muddy/woolly is a fairly common criticism of Ashdown cabs, though those who like them love them to bits. However it seems that you're not in that camp. I wouldn't write off cabs with 15" speakers entirely though, as obviously they don't all sound the same. Buying used is the best way of hanging on to an items value, and your money will go further. As for suggestions, maybe a Trace 1518 (plenty of older ones go sub £150 and even less if you want to hang on for a collection only auction local to you). There's also a couple of Tecamp 2x10 going for £320 in the for sale forum (both in the South East). And don't worry too much about the rated wattage of the cab - that's just the point at which the voice coil will eventually melt!
 13.
With only 200 watts into 4 ohms you are gunna want allot of grunt out of the speaker which means as high efficiency cab as you can find for your money (SPL quoted at 1 metre) I would not go for the Peavey 2x10 as they are not very efficient at turning your watts into sound. Just remember for every 3dB increase in level requires a doubling of your amps power. So the difference in buying a cab with a rating of say 96dB @ 1M to one at 99dB would be half as loud again. Half as loud as it takes about 6 dB to appear twice as loud to the human ear. That’s just part of the storey then there is cone surface area. Hence lots of 4x10's out there. I've kicked this around for years we all have to compromise to suit our pocket and our Motors. You said Rock Band to me that means multi speaker cab. So to be portable that means more than one cab (two small cabs) or go for a good second hand 2x10 or 2 x12. High efficiency. Less eff cabs can sound good cranked up but you need an amp to match their wattage rating. Running your amp flat out into a 400 watt cab will blow the speaker quicker than pushing it hard with a 500 watt amp. Bass is Fun but the science gets us in the end
+6dB is a doubling of SPL but that's not double the perceived volume: +10db is a doubling of volume. Likewise, +3dB is not half as loud again, it's about the minimum you would appreciate as being louder in a real world situation. Adam, the point deepbass5 is making is that your choice of cab is going to make a huge difference to the volume you're going to achieve. If you use a single 8ohm cab you'll be getting 130w out of your amp - whether that will be enough is going to depend on type of place you're going to be playing and how loud the rest of your band is. Using a more efficient cab will make the most of those watts. There are a lot of factors that affect cab efficiency including the number of speakers, hence the suggestion of multi speaker cabs. Using a cab rated at 4 ohms would give you the full 200w from your amp, but that kind of increase in power would scarcely be noticeable. Two 8 ohm cabs (so an overall load of 4 ohms) would also get you 200w plus an extra 3dB from the doubling of drivers. Doesn't really fit the ease of transport criteria though. FWIW, I used to gig with an amp that knocked out 130w into a 15" speaker and it was fine. That was my band though - yours may be very different. What kind of budget are we looking at here?
 14. I had one in Shell Pink. I bought it in part because the Bass Centre were selling them off for £99 at one point. It was a nice bass and better all round than the late 70's Fenders I'd tried in the past - better neck, tone and weight. I only got shot of it because I didn't really have a use for that sort of tone at the time, a decision I regretted when I joined a garage punk band a few years later. JeanLuc Pickguard also had a Shell Pink Squier and still has an early 70's Fender version for comparison; I'm sure he'll chip in at some point.
 15. If you're happy to buy secondhand it's relatively easy to buy decent cabs for around the £100 mark. Because of the size/weight of these things they're often up for sale as collection only meaning there are often bargains to be had if you can pick it up in person. It depends on where you live and how far you're prepared to travel of course, but if you wait something will turn up locally. I've seen Trace, Hartke, Peavey and Ashdown stuff go for great prices and they're all worth considering. There's plenty more stuff worth considering that can go cheap as well. That would leave you with enough cash to buy a new amp like the Hartke LH500 if you wanted. Why not have a scout round ebay and the for sale forum, see what's available and post back here to solicit opinions.
 16. Good luck with the sale Martin. Be sure to mention Matsumoku in the title as they were a well regarded factory - it's unlikely anyone other than Phillip Hayes himself has heard of the name that's on the headstock at the moment.

Do you think he means Fakenbacker?.
 18.
in a fit of madness ive sold off all but one of my basses!!
It'll never catch on.
 19.
Aye, I wanna know what it is or where I can get one so I can fit one to my basses
I should imagine it's just a piece of black plastic piping that's been cut flush with the headstock during manufacture rather than something that's just installed afterwards as is. So maybe hit up your local hardware store for something of the appropriate diameter and thickness? Shaping it might prove a bit tricky though.
 20. Just seen this - welcome to the forum. That looks very much like a modded Aria 1820/1830, and would have come out of the Matsumoku factory. I'd expect to see 'Steel Reinforced Neck'/'Steel Adjustable Neck' on the neck plate. These were basically the same as the Epiphone ET 280, the difference being that the Epi has a two aside headstock. These doubtless were sold with other names on the headstock, as Matsumoku would be happy to badge these up with any name for anyone who ordered enough. Like I said, yours appears to have a few mods done. I'd say the scratchplate isn't original, nor the knobs. If you unscrew the scratchplate I expect you to find additional holes for the original scratchplate and possibly routing for a neck pickup (both the Aria and Epi models had two pickups). The pickup may itself be a replacement, as it differs to the ET 280 style pups (though curiously bears a resemblance to the ones fitted to the ET 285). Out of curiosity, how did you come up with the Phillip Hayes Esq 1994 IPS model name? I can vaguely make out something on the headstock but can't read it.
 21.
Am I having Dejavu or has this all been covered in the FS link thread? Looks really nice BTW! MMmmm
It does look VERY nice indeed. I've always loved Tobacco Sunburst - much nicer than the 3 tone IMHO - and my first decent bass was a Tobacco Sunburst Fender P.
 22.
I've encountered single rods in their bolt-ons, never in the through-necks though. No idea why some had one while others had two. Maybe just cost-cutting. J.
Thanks for that Jon. I've no idea why I'm so interested in sweating the details of 'fakers as I've got two Ricks and no possible use for a third, genuine or not. But GAS is a terrible thing.
 23. Actually I'm not sure there's much more to add to your for sale thread. The volume pot seems to date to 1980 and the tone looks like 1981 (it's a bit hard to see the last digit in the shots). Assuming both the pots are original, it means your bass couldn't have been put together before 1981. So a build date of 81 would seem most likely, though of course the body and neck could well have been crafted before that.
 24. I suppose te critical question here is how much are you prepared to spend? If he liked the Hartke he played through before that's obviously a good place to start, and probably ticks the boxes. If he likes the Ampeg sound it might be worth thinking about getting him a Behringer BDI21 as well (or if you push the boat out, a Sansamp BDDI )
 25.
£350's too much. It's a nice bass, and as good as bolt-necks get - it's the same as Ashley699's pictured up the page a bit, which went for £266 in an open, no-reserve auction. That's a lot more realistic. Jon. EDIT: Oh look!
I noticed that he'd signed up here as well. The bit that really caught my attention was the bit about the truss rod (singular). Not sure if that was just an error, but I thought that all Mat's had twin truss rods?
