I was watching one on ebay and I wanted to put a bid in but it sold for £400 +£15 postage, some bloke in Shropshire.
Blimey. Though like Jon suggests, prices fetched on ebay can vary wildly. And that one leaves be slightly baffled. :

For sale subforum - shouldn't people have to put their location up?
Musky replied to XB26354's topic in General Discussion
Agreed, when I joined the forum and had a combo for sale I think it was Hamster who pointed out that adding location would be beneficial! I wonder if there is a way that all the posts in Bass and Amps&Cabs could have a template so when you start a new topic you'd have a mandatory fields like price, location, postage cost, description, photos etc...
I like that - good idea. Though I'm not sure photos should be mandatory for those selling something cheap and rather nondescript, like used strings or cables. There's not much a photo would add to a description really. Thinking about it, I'm not sure any of it should be mandatory, but a template would at least remind everyone of the information required and point out that if the info isn't there they're much less likely to get a sale. -
I've seen one in good nick going for £400 on the bay
Someone asking for £400 or selling for £400? To the OP - I think the Roadstars came in a variety of incarnations, which I should have thought would affect the selling price.
ive had it on here for a while valueing its a problem. i know what it owes me but couldnt ask for that would be laffed of the forum and there isnt many about to get a rough idea of a price range. dont think it would sell on ebay tbh not the most desirable bass in the world bit of an aquired taste a reverse headstock five with pj pickups and a funny shape body
I don't think you've quite got hold of the 'fair but upbeat appraisal' bit yet. You might not think much of it, but others may love the look. -
My band Deaf to Van Gogh's Ear are going on tour in easter. We are after dates in between 29th march and 9th april, generally anywhere south of manchester. We sound like this - follow me to myspace - instrument swapping, mathy stuff. we can also be heard hear.....website Also, if anyone can help by giving me venues or other bands that might be interested in putting us on/playing with then that would also be awesome. Ta.
It might be worth your while dropping dangerboy a PM. He puts on Duel in the Deep in London. Even if he can't help you himself he might be able to point you to other likely promoters in the smoke.

You shouldn't get too carried away with the wattage. 600w is 3db louder than 300w, all other things being equal - that's about the minimum increase in volume that most people would even recognise as being louder in a real world situation. It's more likely that the increased midrange output of the 10"s is cutting through the mix better, and so appears to be louder. Though sometimes you only need a mere touch more volume to hear yourself properly.

I notice you're based in Germany, which probably makes what I was going to say about channel ferry charges redundant. This is very much a how long is a piece of string type question. It rather depends on what you're doing in terms of type of transport, accommodation, etc. I've got to agree with Sibob and JTUK - you're walking a tightrope with a very long drop without any guarantees. In my experience even guarantees can disappear when you turn up on the night, and although you can be very pleasantly surprised with what you get from the door take it can also open another can of worms. Exactly how is your percentage being calculated - flyers on the door or a cut of total sales (gross or net, any deductions, etc). Your talking about a lot of driving between Scandanavia and Portugal, and that cranks up the petrol costs. I've never toured Portugal, but you can cover a fair distance between gigs in Spain and for me it wasn't worth the effort. Agents and Promoters are different jobs - the promoter puts on the gig, the agent acts as an intermediary between the band and promoter. Just like their are a lot of amateur promoters out there, there are plenty of amateur booking agents. And some of them will happily book you into inappropriate venues or for poor fees simply because it's little effort and they getting a cut anyway. Personally I'd hold off until you've got a CD to promote and the merch to go with it. Sales of merch can make a huge difference to your finances, and the CD will hopefully be useful to promote the gigs. A lot of promoters for international tours won't even consider a band unless they've got a CD out.

As far as I'm aware the only B'n'G Cardinal produced was the tarted up version of the 450. The last picture you've shown is of a SB B'n'G 1, which was the model Burton used. There are black 380's about, but they don't have the gold hardware and sport the standard white pickup cover.

If you go for a squier try to find a Standard at a good price. The cheaper affinity series (identifiable by the words 'P Bass' or 'J Bass' on the head, rather than Precision/Jazz Bass) can be extremely variable in their build quality. Though somewhat confusingly, sellers will sometimes describe their Standard series instrument as a P Bass. If it were me, I'd be looking at this auction or this one. I've got two of these and use them over my other far more expensive instruments - they're now of an age where they can be described as genuinely vintage, and come from a (now sadly defunct) manufacturer which has a burgeoning reputation for producing quality instruments. Both of mine cost less than £100 including the postage. If the one with the silly BIN doesn't get any bids, or the other isn't being too optimistic with the reserve, they're well worth a punt.

I would have been all over that if I seen it before the auction finished. Mind you, the girlfriend would have probably been all over me if I'd bought it, and not in a good way. -
I've not tried one either, but looking at pictures on the web it does seem a bit light on contouring - the belly and forearm contours are not very deep and the edge radii are small. Not necessarily a bad thing as there are some quality instruments about with completely slab (i.e. uncontoured on the front or back) bodies. But some players find them very uncomfortable. Like Jack says, a secondhand instrument will probably get you far more for your money.

Oops, my memory was failing me. It's not a router locating hole under the guard, it's two decently routs.
You might be on to something there. The amp works when using the effects return port. Sounds flat, but encouraging non the less. Thanks for the replies
Good stuff. I wouldn't really expect it to sound like a tone monster without a preamp in the circuit, but at least you know the power amp works now. You might get away with just using switch cleaner if you've got any lying around, but after 15 years in the garage something a bit more substantial might be required.

Yep, the words "battered old Aria Pro II" caught my eye too. Do tell more. We want pics if it's MIJ!

Like Jon says £175 is a very fair price, but it might be worth your while popping of the pickguard before you decide to buy. There appear to be a few composite (that's MDF to you) bodied Silver Series jazz basses floating about, identified by a router locating hole under the guard. It might affect your purchase decision, though it has to be said that owners of such beasts seem to be oblivious to the wood used so they can't be too shabby tone wise.

Assuming your amp was switched on, it's quite possible that he's managed to blow both of your heads.
-
Just a thought, but your DP100 might just be suffering from a dirty and corroded input jack if the thing is powering up ok. I had a similar problem with a Laney where it powered up ok and even worked plugging into the effects return, just not when into the preamp. A quick going over the contacts with some wet and dry did the trick.
Is there a spreadsheet or a way of extracting all the T/S characteristic from WinISD into a spreadsheet, so you can sort by the characteristics you are looking for? I'm sure you could sort something out from there.

I might have thought it was the switching power supplies on the superfly and Markbass (I'm assuming they're switching supplies) that were the problem, but I'm guessing the Hartke doesn't have a switching supply. Are you turning on anything else when you use your bass? Effects, computer, even dimmer switches? I think I'd get myself over to his house when your amp isn't switched on and phone someone in your house to switch on the amp (and only the amp - no lights or anything else) while you listen, then have it turned off again. If it's the amp you should hear the problem for yourself. Could be it's nothing to do with the amp, or even your household.

Bassline notes help please! Spacemen 3 "Hypnotized"
Musky replied to spacementhree's topic in General Discussion
It's a bit hard to hear really, but he doesn't seem to be playing the same thing consistently all the way through anyway. Personally I thought D/A, G/E sounded ok but if you really want to nail what he's playing, try downloading a copy of Best Practice and loop the bits where the bass is a bit more clear. And don't forget the runs up from the roots. -
Just like we always knew and loved it! Feels like 1999 all over again.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Musky replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The Cats seem to pop up on the 'bay every few months, so while they're not exactly common they're not ultra rare either. I think the guys being a bit optimistic with the £135 price tag, especially with collection only and a dodgy input jack (which might turn out to be a can of worms). About £70 is more likely. A white one sold a year ago for £29, which the guy spent months trying to turn a profit on before finally selling it for about £65. Edit: Tell a lie - it was over 2 years ago, bought for £26 and sold for £71.
