Phishing warning

The Efestivals forum had what sounds like the same problem last Sunday. Turned out it was a result of the ad server being hacked...
2.
Collection of Yamaha bits - I don't think this is an SBV500 re-issue but I sold mine a long time ago and can't quite remember what it looked like. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Old-Electric-Bass-Gu...=item414a971850
That's on old SB 1, which I don't think ever got reissued. Bit of an oddity there though. I don't think they ever did a two pickup version, and looking at the pickguard it seems to have been cut for a P type pickup (and he seems to have only one half of that, going by the pic). It seems someone has got further with that project than he's saying, as I'm guessing it's been routed and resprayed. Still, worth the money as it stands if you can be bothered to do the work and drop a bit of cash on it. And you don't plan on playing sitting down.
3. This same question popped up a few weeks ago - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64935 As far as I'm aware the Elite was never reissued, so it should be a Japanese model.
4. Tricky question really, as it's all a matter of taste. It's quite middley and reminds me a bit of tone some of the more funky players in the 80s got, only with a touch of fuzz. If it were me I'd want a bit more grind in the bottom end, but like I said - it's just a matter of taste. One thing's for sure though - it'll cut through.
5. Google translation comes up with Rock and Roller as a manufacturer - which would make it one of these http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49698&hl=

7. Ruins. Very noisy, mathy type stuff, though Tetsuya is now working under the moniker Ruins Alone - http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~ruins/eng/magaibutsu_eng.html
8. If you love the sound as it is you should keep it just for recording. I would have thought changing the body for a more traditional ash or alder will change the tone. If you go the route of a new body and neck you may as well go the whole hog and have an entire bass made. Or just buy something off the shelf, which has the added bonus of being able to try it first or at least shift it on without too much of a hit on your wallet (if you buy second hand). Andy - I think you ought to remember these things weren't always megabucks and were made to be played rather than for investment. Jaco might have left his alone if he just had an eye on its value.
9. If I were you I'd be looking to buy second hand. I don't know were you're based, but there's a nice deal on an Ashdown Electric Blue in the for sale section - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=67505 For the money you've got to spend you can pick up Peavey TNT's or Ashdown Mag's fairly easily, both of which would be an improvement on the combos you're looking at.
10.
He looks to old to have been in the Stone Roses..........
It took me a while to get that one...
11. The neck is dated Oct '69 (the last three numbers stamped on the neck) which matches the serial number, so that's a more likely realistic date of assembly.
12. It's not Divid L Perry's vids is it? He's not with a band (in fact he's demoing some of his BFM builds), but he's certainly funking it up.
13. Personally I think that a youtube channel might be a better bet for your needs, as you can highlight your playing far more than you can by putting up songs in a band setting. Maybe just you playing bass along to a drum track. The problem with putting band demos up is that unless it's a very bass driven song, people's opinions are bound to be coloured by the material. You could still set up a myspace page, but point people in the direction of youtube rather than embedding the vids - myspace can take long enough to load as it is.
14. Couldn't find the Guitar Mag, but here's Bassist's take on things.
15. I remember they were reviewed in the Guitar Magazine. Unfortunately that's about all I remember, but I'll have the mag about somewhere. I'll try and dig it out.
16.
Found it!
That site seems pretty categorical about the extrads, so it seems you might have one on your hands. Just one note of caution though. I'm a little wary of the info, due to his assertion that JVs, SQs and some E serial instruments had US parts - in fact only some of the domestic MIJ JV models had US parts, and only the export strats had US pickups. It might be that domestic SQs and E serials were fitted with some US parts, but the exports certainly weren't.
17.
The site where it's written........or typed......or whatever....... that absence of the sticker doesn't mean it isn't an Ex-Trad. I sent the guy of this site a mail but he didn't reply jet.
Which site is that? I don't really know anything about Extrads beyond the few that pop up on ebay - they seem to be some kind of Japanese custom shop effort, and probably weren't intended for export.
18. The Extrads had a decal on the back of the headstock, so my guess would be that the EX stands for export if yours doesn't have the decal.
19.
Oh yeah, now you're talking - I love H&H and it's still my main amp. Big fruity sound with a lovely compressor. These young'uns and their Mark bass amps....
Woah - I had both the Bass Machine and the Studio 60 as well. I fact I've still got the Bass Machine and regret moving the combo on. They're both cracking amps. The rehearsal studio I use has an HH musician head and old school 4x12 knocking about somewhere - that sounds lush as well. How HH managed to disappear I'll never figure out. Edir: I've just noticed that's actually a bass baby you've got there, but it's close enough!
20. Hi Adam. I answered on your post at TB so there's not much more I can add, other than I don't think I'd use it to replace a Fender. Is there any possibility you could try it out before doing the trade?
21. Bi-amp? I don't think the Centurians had bi-amps. It's not worth spending a lot of cash on as you can buy older Peavey amps pretty cheaply. It's certainly not worth spending £200+. Someone on here picked up a mark IV head and 2x15 for £60 recently. I think if it were me I'd look to sell and hunt around for something else.

Tecamp
I've started to get it mate, I turn the amp on and off and it's abit of a lucky dip as to whether it returns or not
This reminds me a bit of the hum problems some people had with the switching power supply with DHA pedals. If I remember rightly they'd hum loudly if the power supply was switched on before being plugged into the pedal. Obviously there's nothing to plug in with the tecamp combos, but I wonder if it's some kind of related problem? I'm really not technically minded enough to know how switching supplies work.

my next step

Status did graphite necked headed basses like the Matrix and Energy as well. The Matrix is probably closest to the S2 but aren't that common. Never had a headless bass myself but they're not supposed to any different to playing a headed one as far as technique is concerned. Edit: Actually I was just thinking looks-wise with the Matrix, but the Energy had the soap bars so might be closer in tone?
24. The Bass Centre is a long established business that used to considered the best bass shop in the country. Nowadays they're a mail order business only, with no physical shop. I've not used them since they had their shop in Wapping but I do seem to remember some threads about them more recently where some concerns were raised about their customer service, though I think that was related to their last shop in Brune St. Might be worth doing a quick search on some of the threads here.
25.
This goes to the heart of the matter. No bass cabinet manufacturer goes to his speaker supplier and says ' I want something that is better than your top of the range speaker'. They are all, to a large extent, box stuffers, and want to hide the fact that they are just sticking a very average driver in a box and charging a lot of money for it. They will, however, ask their speaker supplier if it's possible to reduce the price by a few dollars (hence the lack of push terminals mentioned earlier). I can think of one exception, but that probably proves the rule, as they say. The only cabinet manufacturer who seems to be open about what he fits is our own Alex, but he is one of the few bass cabinet builders fitting premium quality drivers. The smaller driver manufacturers are a lot more flexible as far as custom drivers are concerned, but even here, there are limits.
Yeah, I didn't really think there was any such thing as a 'super driver', or the manufacturers would be making them as a standard model! I'd rather assumed that the whole 'custom driver' thing was mostly snake oil, with an implied superior performance. It's a little surprising to me to find that some of the parts are more interchangeable than I'd imagined, but I'm under no illusion that they offer any real benefits over standard models. What was the exception you had in mind Stevie?
