Yep. Wiring for a Precision should look like this. If you're handy with a soldering iron (or know someone who is), it's an easy job and would save you a few bob.

Snap it up! Besides the probable total price of around £230 (substantially cheaper that any other lesser 'fakers you'll find) IT"S GOT WAVY TUNERS AND TOASTERS! AND AN ORANGEY LOOKING BOARD! If it's got twin truss rods that might be the most accurate looking copy I've seen.

Looking at Peavey's website, it's most likely early eighties. 260 combo manual from '78 Centurion Mark III head from '83 Your combo seems to have a single channel version of the Centurion in it. I played a more powerful Mk III head through a matching 2x15 over the summer, and thought it sounded fantastic. Since you've got one, maybe you could let us know your thoughts on what it's like to play through.
I've done a bit of a search tonight to find out when it was made and it's saying 1994/95 at the Fuji-gen Plant. So that answers that one. Looks like I have a MIJ then. Here she is. I used to own it before and have just bought it back. It's got a Gotoh bridge on it now and a different scratchplate. The original scratch plate was black, but I kept that when I sold it as I had got it signed by Glenn Hughes. I bought this one on Tuesday and on Saturday I'm buying a Geddy Jazz, so it would seem I have Jazz GAS at the moment. The Geddy has been bought for a special project. Thanks to OTPJ for the photo
Just to confuse things slightly, I believe the first CIJ's started to appear around 1992. Not that it really makes a jot of difference.

Found this interesting snippet on the web in an interview with the President of Tokai
A11: As you know [our Korean licensing partner] made some LS models for our Canadian distributor without our permission. I met his president at Music China [Fair 2005] and we asked him not to make our LS models to our Canadian distributor any more and he accepted our proposal. I think they are still making Dillion guitars for Canada and USA. So I believe no more faked Tokai guitars in Canada. Now we are talking to our new Canadian distributor. So we believe faked Tokai guitars will be disappeared in Canada soon.
I wondering if it's the same factory knocking out these Rockinbetters and Dillions. Or more to the point, whether someone is now knocking out fake Rockinbetters.

Comparing it to hookys review, the neck on this one seems to join the body at the 20th fret whereas Hooky's joins at the 19th. So the construction seems to be significantly different as well as the hardware. Oh and Hooky, did you never have a Hondo then? I was sure you'd owned one - maybe it's just your user name that gave me that impression.
MIJ / CIJ just specifies which factory built the bass. MIJ is Fujigen Gakki while CIJ is Iida Gakki or Tokai Gakki. Not sure why yours would have both, though. When was it made? Jon.
The 75 reissues have both of the decals on them. No idea why

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
Musky replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
Not everyone reads this thread ... here's the text of an eBay advert that's current at the time of posting this: Hi there. You are looking at my Bass Collection SB301 passive four string bass made in the famous Japanese Matsumoko factory for the S.G.C. Nanyo company in the mid nineteen eighties. S.G.C Nanyo was started by an Englishman; the three initials being the initials of his name. There was a range of active and passive basses, mostly sold through The Bass Centre in London. DO NOT CONFUSE THESE JAPANESE BASSES WITH THE CURRENT BASS COLLECTION CHINESE COPIES. THE MATSUMOKO ONES ARE FAR HIGHER QUALITY. I know this from personal experience. Having owned a Japanese one back in the eighties when they first came out, I made the mistake of buying one of the Chinese ones secondhand and supposedly " mint " through Ebay. It was downright awful and shoddy and was returned to the seller. I found this one in a local music shop and snapped it up. Wonderful stuff.
Better point out that the guy is talking complete rubbish Jack, just in case someone doesn't get as far as reading your first post! -
Who knows something about this? Some plots, images etc.

G+L do a tele style bass. And if I remember rightly their was one from a small US maker that did the rounds of a number of members on the boards. Can't remember what that one was called though. -
Hello! (I'm not a bassist yet but I want to learn)
Thanks for the welcome, guys! I'm already looking into buying my first bass second-hand from a member of this forum!
Hi there Santinian! Did you decide to go for one of those SX's? Good choice if you did. -
A quick 'n' dirty bit of Photoshoppery confirms that they do bear the F-word. The whole thing looks "manufactured" to me, not slung together.
Yeah, my thoughts as well. It looks too well put together to have been an Eastern Bloc instrument to my eyes - they tended to be more idiosyncratic and, for the most part, original. The bridge is unlike any other I've seen as well. Quite a mystery all in all. -

There's something strangely cool about that. I wonder if Jon has ever come across something like this? The only tele style bass I can remember were the cruddy Jedsons, and this looks way better than them. And those tuners have something stamped on them that looks suspiciously like 'Fender' - there can't have been too many factories knocking out those. -
If it's a little bit tatty, £100 is probably a fair price. Otherwise I think you could get a bit more for it, but I suppose it depends how quickly you want to shift it. Take a look how much others have gone for in these search results for Peavey.
How close do the Anniversary basses sound and play like a real Rickenbacker? There's a store near me that stocks the Anniversary 360 fireglow six string. They told me that they usually get the basses in as well, but that the basses tend to sell out rather quickly.
You should have a word with hook6stringbass. He had one of these and has played some of the other 'fakers about, old and modern. No idea of whether he's ever had the real thing to compare it to though.

He's got a few natural tele bodies for sale. I don't recognise the wood, but it's definitely not basswood. Anyone recognise it? Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Musky replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ahh... I don't think you'd be happy with the Cardinal then, as it's got a very grunty Precision-like sound to it. The shorter scale adds a little 'flap' to the sound, which is quite retro but doesn't really sound like what you're looking for. -
Oh Dear Mark Sounds like the bath-tub curve has struck again. I've heard of very few failures but those have been dealt with pretty damn expediently. Peter
Bath tub curve?

Musky replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I would like something (bass or guitar) Japtastic in my collection, but aren't in a hurry. The bottom line is, if I was really serious about the instrument, I'd be bidding more The precision pickup configuration isn't my favourite, I prefer humbuckers, or a Jazz setup. But, if I actually did win for the price I bid, I'm not going to be complaining! Edit: Outbid already. I'll think about it.....
You're in luck - it is a humbucking pickup! Just the standard P type though. You've spotted it's a medium scale bass, right? I've got two Cardinals, a 300 and a 380, and got both for less than £80 plus the postage so this might be approaching it's money. Having said that, I haven't seen a Cardinal bass on the 'bay for a while so maybe there are a few people on the look out for one. Edit: And if that 450 wasn't a lefty I'd be adding it to my collection as well! -
Check first! Marshall made 120 watt 4x12 cabs which could be used for both bass and guitar - they were designated seperate model numbers on the rear panel. The cabs were known as models 1982A and 1982B, and contained 'heavy duty' Celestion G12 speakers. Many variations of the G12 speaker were being made available, and Marshall did not always increase the power capacity of their cabinets at the same time as Celestion improved the spec of their speakers - for a while Marshall claimed a capacity of 120 watts for one of their 4x12's when in fact the cabinet could handle in the region of 320 watts. I think all the 4x12's were only available in 16 ohm format - as previous post mentions, this was to marry up a pair of cabs to valve heads thus giving an ideal load of 8 ohms. 16 ohm cabs not therefore great to use alone with a transistor head! Hope this helps! Pete.
+1 Hiwatt did cabs for both bass and guitar as well.

If you've got a Rick in mind you really need to try one first - not everyone seems to get on with them, either tone or feel-wise. If you do get along with them but still baulk at the price, a Matsumoku or FujiGen built 'faker could well be worth a punt - they're becoming increasingly collectable so probably not to shabby as an investment either.
