Well got the duty invoice today for £16.80! I'm made up, this bass has cost me £130 stock! That's brilliant.
£16.80! That's a result - their calculator must have been on the fritz that day.
Ah ok, so it has like two knobs on one then?
Exactly so. You can see the dual concentric knob here - http://www.edmondmusicinc.com/servlet/the-...s-Guitar/Detail

The 3 knob version is actually a 4 knob - it has a stacked treble/bass control.

That's gorgeous. Cherry Sunburst didn't come in until the eighties though..

Excellent. I'll be going next year assuming I can get a ticket, so I'll be sure to come along. On a side note MythSte played a great set there last year - anyone else played?

Hi Chris. You might like to take a look at http://www.studybass.com/lessons/basics/ It's a great site for those starting out and easily understandable.
Would have been good to go there just to see WHO was buying the stuff! I wonder why his family flogged off all his stuff, did the Ox not have a son - He could have adopted me!
Apparently a lot of it went to the Hard Rock Cafe. They've got very deep pockets for this kind of stuff.
I have to admit, I'd rather someone put a ballpark figure and ask for 'offers around £x' so I know whether it's in my price-range, whether I've got appropriate stuff to offer as a p/x +cash etc etc. but other than that, if that's the way someone wants to sell it then so be it! *settles in to watch this thread unravel *
+1 Asking for offers kind of assumes that people have an idea of the value, and they're sitting waiting for an example of the bass to come up. That might be the case sometimes, but I'd imagine a lot of people are just looking for a decent bass that appeals to them within their budget.
That's bizarre - the flightcase for his buzzards went for £20,400 when the most expensive Buzzard sold for £10.5k (I think). Who on earth would value a flightcase more than the actual instruments he played?
Ahh... I should have clicked on the link for the full descripition! Although the title said the lot was 'A flightcase for John's flock of buzzards', it actually contained 5 Status Buzzards (including 2 8-strings) as well as various set lists and sheet music. Might have been considered a bit of a bargain then!
Thanks for the info on the Aria bass- I'll have to start looking after it now (maybe even get it a protective case !!) It does not give any indication as to its origin although stamped on the heel plate is the following- 6062808 Accurate Bolt on neck Thanks for the confidence boost on the old Peavey TNT's - I have seen many used by bassists while I've been playing guitar and there are a few on my eBay watch list!! Gutted though- just missed a Trace Elliot BLX- 80 that ended for £63!! I've seen a few H/H V-S 100 watt combos- I know these are not fashionable but are they any good?? Rich
Yep, that's a Mat - built in 1986. I've not tried the VS combo, but I've got a soft spot for the amps. In fact I've got one of the later Bass Machines that I refuse to part with, so perhaps I'm not the best person to ask. I rehearsal studio I use has a VS and an old 4x12 - it sound great if your into more retro sounds.

Hi Rich. Welcome to the forum. As far as amps go, I'd be looking for a Peavey TNT in your position. They come up fairly regularly for the sort of money you're looking at, they sound great and are reliable. Having said that ebay can be a weird place where you can snag bargains because the seller won't post, so it's just a question of keeping your eye out. If you're unsure what you are looking at you can always post a question here. Your Wildcat is likely a Matsumoku made bass - I'm not sure if Aria continued the range after production switched to Korea, but if it was made in Japan it's a keeper. You'll find a lot of love for Mats on these boards. Can't help with right hand technique though - I use a pick!
Thought I would provide an update. Bass was delivered the other day and how did it sound? I couldn't tell. They may as well have put elastic bands on the thing. Truly awful strings. Very sturdy neck, in fact it;s huge with a really big head stock. Feels like a lot of bass for £115. One moan is that the bass wasn't grounded properly (in fact that's inexcusable for a "beginner" bass in my opinion) although as I had intended to gut the thing and rewire it isn't much of a problem for me. In comparison to my Mexican jazz, it feels of a similar quality although "out of the box" the MIM is a clear cut above. I remember using the MIM to audition for my current band the day after it was delievered with a minimum of adjustments. I don't think I could have done as well with the SX, particularly with the grounding issue. Also, changing the pickguard has been, for such a simple job, a bit of a pain. Quite a bit of neck/p[ickup route adjustment is needed but it does look great now it's ready. I certainly feel I've got a bloody good deal for very little money so far but the proof will be during band rehearsal/gigs which I hope to test drive in the coming weeks. Should be rewiring some point this week.
£115? Was that the final cost with p+p, or was there any tax on top? I think you've got a very good deal if customs have screwed up.

What kind of drop in the weight are we looking at here Alex? -
That's the Fujigen version - identical to the Ibanez 2388B bolt-neck. I love the full-width glitter inlays on these! J.
Yeah, I pointed that out to the guy who owned it. He seemed a bit upset as he appeared to want to believe it was a Mat. It seems Mats are to JapCrap on talkbass what Ibanez are on ebay.

Only just seen this thread. No rickenfakers of my own, but here's a picture of a rather nice Electra Corsair bolt neck in it's original state.
Yup - this is the rig you need: http://www.theinternetnowinhandybookform.c...dreamonpro.html
Brilliant! I tried buying the Excellentiser (believe me I need one!) but got this message: Error: Not Cool Enough The page you requested has been blocked. We've checked your computer, browser history, lifestyle and sexual preferences. It seems that you're just not de jour enough to be allowed further access to SchmApple's superior products and services.

Monto has been running Water Rats for a few years now. As you've probably read, people have had mixed experiences there. I've seen posts on other forums from people that have taken 'work trails' with them as promotions assistants, including one from from a guy who described it as a sales operation. It apparently involved messaging as many Music myspace profiles as possible. I've had an invite myself - I turned it down.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the power module they use is 900W RMS (450+450, I think).

Should this be moved to the review section? -
I found that a little odd as well, but the manual is pretty unequivocal.
"The VX2510 & VX2515 combos feature the HA2500 amplifier providing 250 watts of power to the built-in 2-way bass speaker system. ... Rated power - 250 watts @ 4 ohms Vx2510 Speaker System Impedance (Ohms) - 4 Ohms Impedance"
They probably found it cheaper to put the 2500 head in to the combo as is rather than modify the speaker outputs for combo use,

http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...796#servsupport According to the manual the minimum impedance is 4 ohms, which the internal speakers are already running at. You shouldn't add another cab to that set up.

I used to work for the same company as him and chatted to him plenty of times without actually knowing who he was. Which was a bit strange as I was actually a fan - he inspired me to get a Rick. He's a genuinely nice bloke.

Judging by your avatar you're a Flea fan, so maybe that's the tone you're after? Like BigRedX says, there are a lot of variables, but Flea has his own signature set of GHS Boomers. Maybe that'd be a good place to start.
