1.
Well perhaps the Forum "eBay links" page should be changed or dropped altogether, following your line of logic (which seems very selfish to me). Do you know what? I haven't been too chuffed with some of the stuff going on the Forum recently (I know Ped and others are trying to put it right) and this is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I am going to take a break from BC and come back when I feel better inclined towards it. And no, unlike some attention-seekers, no poll, no PMs etc. See you in a month or two.
Don't go Clarky, just because I enjoy your posts (yeah, that's me being selfish ). This has come up before and there was no consensus found. My view is that although flagging up a potential bargain might step on someone's toes, it also might alert people to something that might otherwise go unsold (and then relisted in the correct section or whatever). So it's all swings and roundabouts. In this case I don't think there was anything wrong with flagging it up whatsoever - it's in plain sight (no spelling errors, right category, etc.) and is fair game. It's just a bog standard auction with stacks of time to run and a fair starting price which is sure to rise in any case. I can see Warwickhunt's point of view, but I don't really think this was the auction to bring it up on.
 2. A Kay - for spares, repairs or slinging on a fire... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-Guitar-spares-o...emZ220376257637
 3. Being a 57 RI it's got a 2 tone sunburst rather than the 3 tone you see more often. Maybe that's what makes it look a bit it look a bit off?
 4.
From what I can gather on the net, a 2 bedroom house with occupants will use about 35 units a week, and apparently our 300 sq ft room is drawing the same?
Hmm... I think I'd take take figure with a pinch of salt really. I've just had my bill in for a 1 bedroom flat (with gas heating and just me and the girlfriend in there) and it works out at 44 units a week. Maybe I'm just wasting a lot of 'lecky somewhere?
 5.
Ashdown is one of the biggest brands but still very independent and based on a farm in Essex which aside from making great amps is one of the reasons I like them so much, i think once a brand becomes owned by a big corperation it often loses all the things that made them great in the first place, eg SWR, great little company then Fender bought them and since then nothing, I just hope Ashdown stays independent and doesnt cave in to some foreign company!
Apparently it was always part of Mark Gooday's plans to sell the company after it had become established. Which he would have done if Fender hadn't screwed him over. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Ashdown sell up to a larger organisation at some point.
 6.
99% of bands just stand against a brick wall wearing hoodies so at least we made a bit of effort!
+1 I think the photo is fine and show more thought than most bands put in. It's easy to criticise the details as having been done before, etc., but so what? As long as the photos fit with the bands image that's all that matters.
 7. I didn't look at your video, but that sounds pretty normal to me. It takes a while to build up strength in your left hand and your little finger is always going to be the weakest digit. Just keep up the practice, taking a break when it starts to hurt. It will get easier with time!
 8. It's a great idea. But might there not be some bandwidth issues if he's as popular as it seems?
 9.
Perhaps the PRS will see reason and allow videos that are educational and non-profit making. What are the chances?
It's not PRS that have blocked any videos. YouTube have taken down the videos whilst in negotiations with PRS over the size of the royalties - it seems to be more a shot across PRS's bows in order to weaken their bargaining position.
 10.
I was doing some silent practice with my Fender Jazz last night, and after about 35 minutes i heard a very distinct cracking sound. I thought "oh sh*t!" and then checked the bass over very thoroughly but couldn't find the source of the noise. I thought i must've been imagining it, and started playing again - then i discovered the fault. The skunk stripe on the back of the neck is no longer flush with the neck for about 4-5 inches. It isn't noticeable with the naked eye, but you catch it if you run your fingernail across the radius of the neck. It doesn't affect my ability to play, but it shouldn't have happened. What's annoyed me is the bass is brand new and i've had it less than a month. My first thought was to return it to the store, but i got it mail order and the store is about as far away as you can get from where i live, plus i no longer have the box it came in. Plus, i've grown quite attached to it, but i'm not paying for it to be repaired! I've emailed the store but they don't open for another hour or so. Is it something that can be easily fixed? because i'd rather do that than go through the mither of sending it off, but part me is thinking "it's brand new and you paid enough for it, get one that's not bloody faulty!" GRRRRR
It's not down to you to pay for the cost of getting it back to them, that's their responsibility. The box could be a problem for shipping, but explain the situation to them. They may offer to send you a replacement and you could use the box to send the faulty one back.
 11.
I was thinking that - without the top speaker, but can't find a pic
That was the first thing I thought of when I opened the thread as well. It was produced with the trident head, so I assume it was called the trident as well.
 12.
this is my aria pro II double neck, cant play the bugger but it looks good
Wow, I've never seen one of those before.
CSB-380 - s/burst 2 p/up
Shouldn't that be a CSB Deluxe? I've got two CSB's - a 300 and 450. Really nice basses that sell for a pittance nowadays.
 13.
This sid has put a few lbs on and I aint eating bob monk buttys for no man !!

I'm not having a go, I'm not f*ckin rotter or a dirty c*nt either.
14. I think your mind has been made up for you. You've joined a Pistols tribute band and they've asked you to look the part - that basically means a Precision or maybe a Rickenbacker. A jazz isn't going to look the part. As it's a tribute band this could be a deal breaker, so do you want the gig or not? If you really want actives you can retro fit them, but if it were me I'd bite the bullet and get a white P bass second hand at a decent price and sell it on after for the same price. I think you have to have a word with the band before shelling out on anything else which may lose you the gig. If they're happy with a Sadowsky, Thunderbird or anything else then fine - if not a cheap Precision it is.
 15. Looks great but I see what you mean about the lack of a pickup surround. Maybe a pickguardian surround could be a viable option without spending too much cash.
 16. Assuming this is the head rather than a combo, not a great deal I'm afraid. If I were selling I think I'd be pretty happy if it sold for £75.
 17.
Hahaha! f*** that sh*t. Last week I asked two of their staff - yes, two - to stop calling me. It's verging on ASBO territory. They keep sacking the bookers but if the band contracts don't come from them then how the f*** are they supposed to convince anyone who's played a gig anywhere before to play there? For just over £180 you can hire venues like Dirty South or one of the rooms at Jamm, put on your own night and take ALL the gate money.
Yeah, they now seem to be firmly in taking the p1ss territory. I read recently on another forum that somebody applied for a job with them as a 'promoter'. Apparently they asked him in for a one day trial (unpaid) and had him phoning bands all day. At the end of it they asked him if he'd like to come back for another day of unpaid work doing the same thing. He concluded that there was no job. It might seem their activities aren't restricted to just taking the mick out of bands...
 18. Nice review! What pickup is under the bridge cover? I've only ever seen pictures with the cover in place, and so just imagined that there was a p type under there. Pics would be lovely.
 19.
Need to get a small Bass combo amp , not after anything loud as this will literally be used as an amp to use at home to practice and and my other much bigger amp (300W) will be used for gigs , am interested in getting the Fender Rumble 60. Basically to cut a long story short i have a 25 watt amp at home and I find that although there is bass and treble controls on the amp the low wattage on the amp means that the amp has basically one tone (tin can) , if I upgraded to a 60W amp for practice would I get any increase in low end. I have tried a 100 watt Fender combo and it sounded good but I think for practice 100watts would possibly be overkill BTW , I understand that good tone is achieved by having a good quality amp rather than a powerful one but obviously the wattage will play some role in providing the low end on a bass amp , therefore presumably a more powerful amp will have more low end , also i will reiterate that this will be used for practice so I would like more low end than my current practice amp but I dont need wall shaking lows
If you're looking for a fuller tone, with due respect I think you're asking the wrong question. Had you asked 'how can I get more low end from a practice amp?' I doubt you would get any suggestions that you simply up the wattage, as that not really any guide to a fuller tone. You could still wind up with a thin sounding amp that need not even be any louder than what you're currently using. What have you got at the moment, and what's your budget for a new amp?
 20.
If i remember 78 models had S8 serial numbers, 79's-S9.... ETC
S9's could have been produced any time between 78 and 81. Fenders serials started going all over the shop in the late seventies, so they're best used in conjunction with pickup dates, pot and neck codes. If there's a neck code the second to last number is the last digit of the year, with pot codes the 4th and 5th numbers (the numbers directly after 137) are the years. Assuming everything is as it left the factory, the last date you've got from the codes is the earliest time the bass could have been assembled.
 21. AWAL doesn't charge to upload your songs and takes a 15% cut of the sales. Unless any of your bands have a reasonably high profile, with such a large amount of music to put up you're better off without any upfront charges.
 22. That jetsetindie site just seems to host tracks for you, it's not actually an aggregator. To my mind you may as well host the songs on your own site and sell them from there if that's the way you want to go. Realistically though, IMO downloads are really about iTunes, so you'd need to go through an aggregator. Which one really depends on how many downloads you think you'll sell, how long you want them available for and whether you want any physical distribution. If you've got CD's to sell CD Baby is your best bet. Otherwise AWAL, Tunecore or Reverbnation all offer a similar service - you've just got to do the maths on which is likely to be best for you.
 23.
Resale value is not determined by new price, its determined by the market. Generally, I won't consider something at more than 2/3 of new price, as I value warranty and such. If it is something I specifically want and would consider buying new, then I might go 3/4, but this is rare, most of my purchases are GAS fueled. Remember shops are in the business of making money rather than increasing the value of their stock. If they got little money for the trade, they'd not be againing anything other than a slighty less desirable bass (one person specifically doesn't want it, whereas the bass they have one person specifically does want).
+1 Bass gear goes in and out of fashion much like anything else, so the value of a particular item will vary with when you're selling. You seem to see it more with amps than basses, but Markbass is particularly in demand at the moment and commands high resale prices - other brands with similar retail prices can sink like a rock when you want sell them.
 24. That's not good at all. One would have hoped that they took your contact details so they could have given you a call to check what work was to be done on it. Seeing how they don't seem to have given you a call, maybe you could get back on the phone and explain your situation and what needed doing to the bass. Hopefully they'll be able to sort you out before Saturday - good customer service is all about how they react when things do go wrong.
 25.
I just rememembered, I used to have as pair of Vox 4x10 pa speakers when I was in my early 20's. They was each about 5' high & about 1' wide & all vertically aligned. Just thought I'd share that.
My first proper band had a pair of those as well. We used them as monitors - laid on their sides.
