Euphonic iAmp 350 Combo(s) - sale or trade for something interesting
molan replied to molan's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Took some pics today - not great quality but better than nothing! Forgot to mention that the head is really flexible for practice use - it has an input for an MP3 or CD player with an independent input level control and a headphones out with an option to turn the main speaker off so you can balance all the signals for private listening. Everything working fine. Gain pots are a little scratchy at very low settings (I think because it's never used at low settings as it has a simple speaker off button if muting is required). Really not enough to worry about but just want to be as accurate in the description as possible. Speaker is in good condition having been used on a handful of occasions only. The small mark on the front grill has now been cleaned up. Any questions please ask! -
Listening to Sunburst Band right now on Solar Radio via Sky! They've been #1 on the Solar funk album chart for six weeks now.
I think it has to. Even though I personally prefer old basses, it's nice to see something different, that isn't always retro styled. That's a gorgeous piece of wood!
Looks much better now it's had a good clean Well worth every penny of the £240 I just paid for it

Euphonic iAmp 350 Combo(s) - sale or trade for something interesting
molan replied to molan's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Got pretty close to selling the combo but looks like it's back up for sale at £525 with the CXL112 at £350 I'll knock £25 off if someone wants the pair @ £850 Could be up for trades like a little MarBass 1x12 or always up for offers on interesting basses! Now reduced to £775 for the newer pair or £725 for the older model combo -
Have you got that line down yet? Was listening to it on the radio this moring and it sounds nice but a little tricky!
I got pretty close (with some YouTube assistance!). However other band members struggling so seems to have been dropped from the set for the time being!

Does a Status Electro count?

Anyone heard 'Tip of My Tongue' by The Tubes?

Big list of credits on the album! Bass players include Nathan East & David Williams as well as Rick Anderson. -
I'd go for a classic 3ply black/white/black for a 70s look.
Does look pretty cool: Although maybe nicer with a maple board - tort might look better against the rosewood?

P-T-P might be your man for a good comparison of the 1x12 vs the 2x10 as he's owned both recently and gigged with them regularly: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showuser=226
Don't you mean Forget Me Nots by Patrice Rushen?
I heard a great interview with Ready Freddie Washington once. He got a writer's credit for the coming up with the bass line to Forget Me Nots. It was a big enough hit in it's own right but was then used for Men in Black & covered by George Michael on Fast Love. Serious multi-platinum sales stuff for each of these. I think Will Smith gave him a jont writer credit but he didn't initially get a co-credit from George Michael. The stories were that Patrice Rushen & Ready Freddie settled out of court though. Also some additional credits when Randy Crawford covered it and it was featured in the movie Big. He reckoned he was earning enough from this one bassline alone to pretty much retire if he wanted to! One of my favourite bass stories, session guy comes up with great bass line, gets writer credit and earns a fortune - how often does that happen?
Which pickups are fitted? Lindy Fralin?
Good shout, if it's got Fralin's already fitted then a quick chat with Mr East might make a world of difference: http://www.east-uk.com/jrhome.htm Obviously known for his J circuits but I'm sure he could kit you out with something for a P Not a huge amount of work involved and because it's all beneath the scratch plate then there's no lasting damage if you don't like it. Would be fairly easy to sell on again afterwards I reckon.
They're available from stringbusters and stringsdirect from the end of the month. Only available as a 4 string set though unfortunately.
To be honest I'd probably just import some from the US if I decided to buy any. Must be close to half price compared to UK prices. Bootzillas listing at StringsDirect at £34.95 a set compared to $29.99 in the States.

I spotted recently that DR have added Jonas Hellborg signature strings to their Marcus Miller & Bootsy Collins sets! Just wondered if anyone had tried any of these and, if so, whether they were really any different from the standard sets? I fancy the Bootzilla's myself The costly stainless steel wrap wire used to manufacture Bootzillas is unique. It produces a disctinct crunchy tone. Bootzillas bass strings are coated for extra protection against damaging sunstances such as perspiration, dirt, humidy, and acid hands. The stainless steel is imported from europe and provides an edgier tone than standard domestic stainless steel.

I agree with the others on this - I'd question the ability of the other band members to question the actual tone of your bass (especially when it's something as classy as a Lakland!). Have they said exactly what it is they don't like - E.G. If they think it's too "thumpy" or "bright" etc. then it could surely be remedied by adjusting the amp setting and/or the tone on the bass itself. Also - have they actually got off the stage and listened to how it sounds out front or are they just talking about stage monitoring sound? I have to admit to having had the reverse of this debate with a guitarist in a soul band who insisted on using an Ibanez pointy headstock guitar with a super crunchy Marshall which had a sound that was way too heavy for soul rhythm playing. However the big issue here was a whole combination of things and I'm sure he could have got a more 'appropriate' sound from his rig had he been bothered.

Have you see this month's copy of Bass Player yet? The cover feature is : The Power & Glory of Tube Amps - The Science Behind the Sexy Sound Followed by: Buyer's Guide - 13 Tube Titans! & : The Anatomy of a Classic Tube Amp To be honest the buyer's guide is simply a list of a few tube amps & some basic specs and a pic of each one but sounds like a good starting point. Hiwatt Custom 400 rocking in at the most expensive I think at $5,500!
You need to click on the 15th fret of the guitar neck on the left hand side of Sims page.
That'll teach me never to go beyond the 12th fret!
This one is at the GAllery in Camden for £1400 (no, its not mine). Real looker. http://www.thebassgallery.com/seijazz5quilt.html
I have to agree that you'd struggle to find a better made bass than a Martin Petersen. There's been a few lovely 5 string Sei Jazzes up for sale recently and £1,400 would have bought any one of them. Definitely worth having a look for the quality of craftsmanship alone. You're right on the cusp of a used NYC Sadowsky like this one as well:
simms?
I only them from the LED's - didn't know thye did all this other stuff as well http://www.simscustom.com/html/sprayshop.htm No prices quoted anywhere that I can see though?

Purely out of general interest - if I wanted to take a virtually new bass with a plain finish like a simple gloss white or black and have it refinished in a different colour how much would it cost? I'm thinking of something like a metallic Lake Placid blue or gloss Seafoam green or Sonic blue etc? Not looking at any sort of wild custom colour, definitely still using stock paints etc. - just maybe taking a plain finish and changing it to something more interesting. Might be nice to give it a matching headstock too - I'd guess that would add a fair bit?

A good friend of mine wants to sell his Ampeg SVT2 with a Boogie flight case and I wondered how much this might be worth? He was asking for £900 and had this much bid on on EBay a few months back but the buyer backed out and my friend didn't get round to re-listing. I'm afraid I really know nothing about Ampeg gear and he resisted my attempts to suggest it was worth about £250 and I'd take it off his hands Here's what he told me about it: Bought new in 1991 and hardly used. The Ampeg always sounded awesome. Really powerful and impressive. The flight case is a “Sprung” Mesa Boogie rack mount. The amp is attached to large rubber bushes, like shock absorbers, which absorb any impact if the case is dropped. A complete service by John Henry after our last tour in 1995 and then sat unused, safe and sound in my music room. RMS Power Output (4 Ohms): 300-Watts RMS Power Output (2 Ohms): 300-Watts Preamp: Tubes (4 x 12AX7, 1 x 12AU7) Driver Tubes: 1 x 12AX7, 2 x 12AU7 Power Amp: Tubes (6 x 6550) Tone Controls: 3-Band Mid Tone Control: 5-Position Graphic EQ: Yes, 7-Band Ultra Low/High Boosts: Yes Balanced Line Out: Yes, Pre/Post (transformer) Effects Loop: Yes Preamp Out/Power Amp In: Yes Slave Out: Yes Dimensions (W x H x D inches): 19 x 7.5 x 15.75 Weight: 70 Pounds The amp is pristine condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. No scratches, as it has been kept in the flight case from new. The flight case is in very good condition, a few scratches on the top but works perfectly. I've attached one small pic but I have a couple of others in higher resolution if anyone wants to see more. Any questions and I'll happily pass them on. Also any advice on his price estimate would be great. The head is located in Kent and I'd imagine would cost a fair bit to ship as it appears to weigh as much as a small child!

Why don't you break the mould if you already have 4 x Fenders already? Could "ease" yourself slowly into something slightly different like a LakLand Joe Osborne? The Skyline basses are beautifully finished and you might get away with the price on account of how much cheaper it is than an American one?

Agreed to buy the Fafner then! Damn exchange rate working against me as the Euro gets ever stronger vs the pound but still a good price with low shipping charge. Should be here in a week or so
