2.
Is that all?.......You only live once.
God point - let's see if I survive the op OK
3.
Glad you got hold of the Sadowsky in the end - I know you have been watching that for ages... and isn't Neil a top bloke??
Neil was a really nice guy. Great collection of basses & more than happy to let me try any of them. And what about that collection of pedals? Went round with a plan to spend half an hour & get back home & stayed nearly two hours
4.
Just don't try playing it under anaesthetic ...
Don't worry, I won't be strong enough to lift it!
5. Just bought a pair of EBS cabs from Jake today. Both in absolutely mint condition! Great communications and really smooth organisation - top all round guy
6. Well - the Modulus VJ has gone to a good home but the Lakland & the Status have now been joined by a rather delightful Sadowsky NYC in a beautiful deep blue quiled maple finish and the MarkBass has two new, and significantly larger, EBS cabs - a 2x12 & a 2x10. The wife is far from impressed Another couple of hundred pounds worth of motorcyle bits should sell on Flea Bay this week so that'll make a bit of a dent in the debt mountain!
7. Not far at all from me and Mr Fandango
8. Now happily residing in the house of mole next to its new friends, a pair of EBS cabs and a Lakland JO
9. Both cabs now residing in the house of mole How could I resist Jake's sales pitch: "The 212 basically kicks you in the nuts as the 210's hitting you in the face!" Just need to find a head to go with them now
10.
Nup. Not switchable on the TD650 at least. Haven't got any of the others to hand... looks like you need a transformer.
Yep - just spoke to an American dealer who confirmed they are not voltage switcheable. That's that idea knocked on the head then!
11. Obviously part of the problem is that the whole "chain" has an effect on the final sound. As an example my previous Modulus VJ didn't sound quite right with the new MarBass 1x12 combo I've just bought but sounded great through an EBS Drome. Meanwhile I've now picked up a Lakland JO with a maple neck that just seems to suit the Mark really well. And I'm comparing the VJ with brand new bright strings against the JO with older half rounds. I must admit, that from what I've heard, EBS gear has a lovely "pure" sound that might fit the bill so if you're after a combo then the Gorm Neo would be a definite audition option. I haven't played a redhead but I owned a nice SM400 for a while that managed to ahve a nice clean tone as well as the option to rock out a bit more when pushed. Of course - part of the real difference is your good old fingers. I know mine will never sound like Bernard Edwards however hard I try
12. We always have bass in both the FOH & monitors. However the monitor mix is not for me, just for the guitarist who's generally the other side of the stage from me. Always have bass Di'd intot he FOH but relative amount is flexible depending on venue. Small gigs would probably be backline online. NB - Did anyone read the Gary tallant interview in this month's Bass player? His backline is purely for show at gigs. They use it for sound check and as a back up but the speaker is completely disconnected when playing ive. He relies on in-ear monitors only. Personally I like to have a bit of trouser flappage behind me - but then I haven't been playing 3 hour Springsteen gigs for the past 35 years!
13. I'm shopping for an EBS head at the moment and been offered some great deals in the USA (including shipping!). However I'm not sure about how easy they are to swap between voltages. I've had amps in the past with simple flick switches but I don't think the EBS has these. I've tried asking EBS via their website but no response (yet). Just wondered if any EBS users out there knew anything about this?
14. I've always got on with drummers, may vaguely help that I was a drum roadie for a short period and do actually get quite interested when I see a really nice kit (my last drummer had a lovely green sparkle Yamaha!). My current drummer is like a metronome. Has every song written down and reads whilst playing, has an in-ear monitor system with a click track and pretty much never misses a beat. Lucky in a way as he's a bit of a "jazzer" and has lost me on more than occasion with one of his strange time signature fills but then is straight back on the one bang on time after the fill! Now, don't get me started on singers though, that's a whole different world of pain. . . . . . . .
15. I bought a very nice early Streamer from them years ago. Actually traded it to the Bass Centre for more than I paid for it. Used to have a nice guy in the shop who was their main bass man. Of course the irony is that I traded it for a Kubicki which is now worth about half the value of an early Streamer through neck! If you are buying a brand new Ricky then maybe the thing to do is to shop around for the best price? Plenty of new Rickenbackers out there & quality on a brand new one ought to be pretty constant.
16. I subscribed to Bass Player direct via the US. Way cheaper than buying it in the UK. Works out at about £2 an issue including postage; https://subscribe.pcspublink.com/subscribeF...PLY&term=12
17. I've seen them a few times, both with Lowell George and without. I loved Lowell's playing but the new band is still a great night out. The Picturedrome is a great venue, only been there once when we happened to be in Yorkshire for the weekend. Really nice atmosphere & much smaller than anywhere I've ever seen the Feat. Sounds like a good night looming!
18. I reckon about £2.5K is my limit but I'm an old git with a very low mortgage and decent disposable income Most I've spent is £1,300 and I've done that twice. One of the basses is still worth around that amount, the other is probably about half. I have my eyes on something at the moment that's over £1,500 but keep thinking about getting Martin Petersen to custom build something which I just know is going to break the £2K barrier. I've always believed in the "buy the best you can afford" maxim - when I was a teenager it was a Fender Musicmaster, now it's a custom Modulus. Maybe when I get to be even older it'll be a Musicmaster again (although the 70's ones are crazy prices these days!). I've had great fun with just about every bass I've owned and the cost of them hasn't really been the issue for me.
19. Well, I thought it was sold but haven't heard from the potential buyer for a few days so thought I'd make the offer I gave him available to anyone else who might be interested. Now £1,200 with the Modulus gig bag or £1,250 with the Hiscox flight case PS - I don't have the technology to record direct to disc I'm afraid so not able to record sound clips
Eventually got to Henley to try out molan's Modulus VJ. Had a very pleasant hour trying out various bits of his gear and basses. I even bought the VJ too. Top marks for molan. The bass is great, even better condition than described and molan makes a great cup of tea. He was very helpful in waiting for me to find a day to travel over to try the bass. Very friendly and helpful and a great guy to deal with. A very happy Geejay.
You like my tea - my wife hates it! Hope you have many hours of fun with the VJ
21.
I can remember being disappointed that no body seemed to notice when I played fretless bass instead of fretless, but for the most part the audience operate at a different level to that, and they can usually tell you if they enjoyed a stonking bass line or not.
Not as bad as the time when I decided to change my bass part in a song at a covers band gig one night. There was one verse that had quite a heavy guitar solo which then went back into a second instrumental verse but with just rhythm guitar. I changed my part in this second section and after the gig the lead singer & guitarist both rounded on me and proclaimed "you really have to play that way again, what did you do, it sounded great"? This was about the only time the singer had ever complimented me on my playing. There was a slightly bemused look on their faces when I explained that what I did was to actually not play anything at all, just left it to the drummer to hold the rhythm together as I'd noticed he tended to play a bit harder/louder in the instrumental sections
22. I know there's quite a few string threads but just wondered if anyone had been able to run a direct comparison between these two "slinkier" style strings? I have tried both in the past but not been able to directly AB test them.
23.
youll love the dple, if aint got the sweetest slim neck youll ever hold apart from the mrs that is ill eat my hat, tell me if im wrong when u get her!
Arrived today - very nice neck indeed And I actually sold something as well - that means I've now bought two basses and a combo whilst selling one bass. Still means I'm "down" on the transactions so far but I did shift those hi-fi speakers so I'm only out about £50 out. Mind you - I have just committed to spend another £600 or so & this purchase will require additional expenditure to power it up - ho, hum
24.
I bought a Lakland Skyline DJ4 from Dave. His communication was excellent, and the bass got here packaged beautifully, with absolutely no trouble. Wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again for a second. Highly recommended!!! Cheers Dave, James.
SNAP! I bought a Lakland DPLE Joe Osborne from Dave which arrived today all the way from Northern Ireland. Well packed and in perfect condition, exactly as described by Dave. Great communication and really smooth transaction. Thanks a lot Dave, hope the op goes well

P-T-P's Feedback

Bought a MarkBass combo from Pete recently. Slightly complicated multiple trade that involved three of us meeting up at a motorway service station. All perfectly arranged by Pete and everything went very smoothly. I had by far the least amount of travel which was a real bonus. The MarkBass was in perfect condition and a fair price to boot. Definitely someone who goes out of his way to be helpful and friendly
