1. Surprised to see it's only 100W - unless it's a typo and should read 1000W
2. Anyone seen the new Marshall Lemmy signature stack? There's a PDF review here: http://www.marshallamps.com/downloads/file...92lemreview.pdf Loads money but I but it's a hoot to play
3. After a very interesting bout of trading on something else that looks like it's going to involve a bass leaving me for a 12 string guitar that's going to someone who's going to sell a head & then give me cash plus a cab - I'm definitely open to offers of trades for just about anything really Gotta be better than the dreaded EBay
4. I'd always loved the look of Rickys and bought an old well played '73 on a bit of a whim. Tried to get on with it but just couldn't get to grips with it. Only really worked for me playing with a pick. Since buying it it's hardly been out of the case I'm afraid. Needs the nut replacing which I need to get sorted before I'll sell it but as soon as I get round to that it'll be up for sale.
5. There's an Urge 1 on EBay right now - might help to give a guide price: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Urge-I-Stu-Ha...id=p3286.c0.m14 Colour is a rather 'fetching' raspberry though
6.
Talking of the instrumental versions of some of their greatest hits, some years ago now I purchased all the available instrumental versions of tracks such as 'God Only Knows' form the Apple iTunes website which are absolutely stunning. They are exactly the same as the full blown tracks excluding the vocal only. I've also got: 'Sloop John B' 'Catch A Wave' 'Do It Again' 'Wouldn't It Be Nice 'Help Me Rhonda' and... the superlative 'California Girls' Highly recommend getting them as they are true gems and a great opportunity to hear the track less vocals in great and womderfully enjoyable detail. Just some thoughts... Ciao Ian
There's loads of samples of the various instrumental only or vocal only versions on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Sounds-Session...p;sr=8-8#disc_1
7. Not sure if this helps - but for those Euphonic aficionados out there it may make a difference to know that the iAmp350 is the later model. I think it's the last version before they took it out of production. I actually own two of these and the later model has 'cleaner' graphics and, I think, an upgraded fan. Not sure of other mods. I removed it from the cab today and it really is immaculate, not a mark on the amp anywhere and looks like new
8.
Lakland Darryl Jones with Aero pups - classic 70s jazz sound IMO
That's good - I've just bought exactly one of these
9.
For bass, I like SS and active. That makes me the bastard spawn of Satan I presume?
Me too Obviously old Satan has been spraying his seed around a bit!
10. I'd spotted the semi as well & quite like the looks: Kinda Rickyish in places. £235 for a 4 or 5 string - would love to know what they are like. As an owner of a Korean Lakland I'm certainly not going to assume that because it's Korean it's rubbish!
11. Forgot to add one thing I always take with me - my little, first series, Sadowsky outboard pre-amp. Means I can get a decent signal into something if my amp goes down. it's never actually happened but ya never know. . . . . .
12. Slightly off topic - I went to a gig recently and had seen 10 lead guitars and 3 basses after only 5 songs! Bloody American session musicians backing a touring singer. Lots of technical ability but lacking in any charisma. God knows why they needed to chane after every song. Anyway - back on topic. I've never taken a spare bass to a gig but I do take simple stuff like strings, a basic tool kit & spare leads. The worst thing that happened to me once was that my main lead failed just before the encore. All I had left was a really short length of patch cable. Had to strap my bass up around my neck and play rammed up against the amp & cab! Always have an, easily accessible, spare lead with me now. . . . . .
13. Have you heard the boxed Cd set at all? Apart from the mono & stereo mix versions there's a whole album of just the vocals (some of which are just amazing) and also one of just the instrumental parts. A few interesting out-takes and stuff as well.
14. Not sure it'll be a huge upgrade on what you already have? Unless you're looking at this as a second bass?
15. A guitarist mate of mine has just asked me to find him a decent bass for under £200 - he suggested a Squier but I think this ought to be better! I'll have a word with him but he's in Portugal at the moment so may take a while to respond. May also depend on how "traditional" he wants to be!
16. What is Xmas like on Mars? Even 'redder' than down here I'd imagine Defiintely loads of friendly people here if you want to ask any questions - don't be afraid if you think something is really dumb but you've always wanted to know - no-one here bites. . . . . . . . . . . well, not many people anyway, and those that do don't have very sharp teeth
17. Damn - when I saw the title of the thread I thought we had some saying hello who was actually called "Marion Arkansas" - cool name for a girl bassist I thought Good to have some more classic prog people on board
18. So does anyone know all the Fender based acronyms? Off the top of my head I've got: MIA - Made in America MIM - Made in Mexico MIJ - Made in Japan CIJ - Crafted in Japan Must be some more?
19. I was over at obbm's the other day and was really impressed with his lovely Lakland DJ. I have a few contacts over in the USA and mentioned I fancied one and one of them managed to pick a virtually new one up for me at an incredibly good price. It's a rosewood board model and I'm more of a fan of maple boards but very much looking forward to it travelling across the pond
20. After a brief, but noisy, disagreement with the wife I think I can be a bit more open to trades than previously suggested (she wants me to flog stuff for cash & I want to 'stockpile' more bass gear!). As far as trades are concerned I'd be very interested in a MarkBass 1x12 and would definitely consider any interesting bass, or even 6 string guitar or amp, options I've also dropped the prices a bit
21.
hi Molan, wow, i didn't think the PPA would attract that much moolah... bargain for some one then Was is you who bought that EBS 1u power amp?
Yep that was me - I seem to have a bit of an EBS fetish going at the moment - that and the fact that I picked it up for under £100 including shipping
22. The answer to your woes Uggy is to flog the Fatboy for a tidy profit & buy a Street Triple - you don't really need the 1,050 engine of the Speed Triple and the 675 engine is a peach. Having saved a huge wedge of cash you can then splash out on a much sexier bass & still be quids in
23. I've seen a couple of the PPA300's sell for around the £200 mark on Ebay recently - I'd been watching them to partner my Trace Pre-Amp! Bought an EBS instead though so I'm not in contention now. Excellent price, someone should snap this up quickly
24. You never know what you might spot in a pawn / cash converter type place. I once picked up a Spector fretless 4 for £100 in one. The same place had an amazing Tom Anderson quilted maple top guitar for a few hundred quid but I couldn't afford it at the time.
25. Can't beat good old black with sparkly pearly plate & some custom inlays
