1. I bought a very nice early Streamer from them years ago. Actually traded it to the Bass Centre for more than I paid for it. Used to have a nice guy in the shop who was their main bass man. Of course the irony is that I traded it for a Kubicki which is now worth about half the value of an early Streamer through neck! If you are buying a brand new Ricky then maybe the thing to do is to shop around for the best price? Plenty of new Rickenbackers out there & quality on a brand new one ought to be pretty constant.
  2. I subscribed to Bass Player direct via the US. Way cheaper than buying it in the UK. Works out at about £2 an issue including postage; https://subscribe.pcspublink.com/subscribeF...PLY&term=12
  3. I've seen them a few times, both with Lowell George and without. I loved Lowell's playing but the new band is still a great night out. The Picturedrome is a great venue, only been there once when we happened to be in Yorkshire for the weekend. Really nice atmosphere & much smaller than anywhere I've ever seen the Feat. Sounds like a good night looming!
  4. I reckon about £2.5K is my limit but I'm an old git with a very low mortgage and decent disposable income Most I've spent is £1,300 and I've done that twice. One of the basses is still worth around that amount, the other is probably about half. I have my eyes on something at the moment that's over £1,500 but keep thinking about getting Martin Petersen to custom build something which I just know is going to break the £2K barrier. I've always believed in the "buy the best you can afford" maxim - when I was a teenager it was a Fender Musicmaster, now it's a custom Modulus. Maybe when I get to be even older it'll be a Musicmaster again (although the 70's ones are crazy prices these days!). I've had great fun with just about every bass I've owned and the cost of them hasn't really been the issue for me.
  5. Well, I thought it was sold but haven't heard from the potential buyer for a few days so thought I'd make the offer I gave him available to anyone else who might be interested. Now £1,200 with the Modulus gig bag or £1,250 with the Hiscox flight case PS - I don't have the technology to record direct to disc I'm afraid so not able to record sound clips
Eventually got to Henley to try out molan's Modulus VJ. Had a very pleasant hour trying out various bits of his gear and basses. I even bought the VJ too. Top marks for molan. The bass is great, even better condition than described and molan makes a great cup of tea. He was very helpful in waiting for me to find a day to travel over to try the bass. Very friendly and helpful and a great guy to deal with. A very happy Geejay.
You like my tea - my wife hates it! Hope you have many hours of fun with the VJ

  10.
I can remember being disappointed that no body seemed to notice when I played fretless bass instead of fretless, but for the most part the audience operate at a different level to that, and they can usually tell you if they enjoyed a stonking bass line or not.
Not as bad as the time when I decided to change my bass part in a song at a covers band gig one night. There was one verse that had quite a heavy guitar solo which then went back into a second instrumental verse but with just rhythm guitar. I changed my part in this second section and after the gig the lead singer & guitarist both rounded on me and proclaimed "you really have to play that way again, what did you do, it sounded great"? This was about the only time the singer had ever complimented me on my playing. There was a slightly bemused look on their faces when I explained that what I did was to actually not play anything at all, just left it to the drummer to hold the rhythm together as I'd noticed he tended to play a bit harder/louder in the instrumental sections
  11. I know there's quite a few string threads but just wondered if anyone had been able to run a direct comparison between these two "slinkier" style strings? I have tried both in the past but not been able to directly AB test them.
  12.
youll love the dple, if aint got the sweetest slim neck youll ever hold apart from the mrs that is ill eat my hat, tell me if im wrong when u get her!
Arrived today - very nice neck indeed And I actually sold something as well - that means I've now bought two basses and a combo whilst selling one bass. Still means I'm "down" on the transactions so far but I did shift those hi-fi speakers so I'm only out about £50 out. Mind you - I have just committed to spend another £600 or so & this purchase will require additional expenditure to power it up - ho, hum
  13.
I bought a Lakland Skyline DJ4 from Dave. His communication was excellent, and the bass got here packaged beautifully, with absolutely no trouble. Wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again for a second. Highly recommended!!! Cheers Dave, James.
SNAP! I bought a Lakland DPLE Joe Osborne from Dave which arrived today all the way from Northern Ireland. Well packed and in perfect condition, exactly as described by Dave. Great communication and really smooth transaction. Thanks a lot Dave, hope the op goes well

    P-T-P's Feedback

Bought a MarkBass combo from Pete recently. Slightly complicated multiple trade that involved three of us meeting up at a motorway service station. All perfectly arranged by Pete and everything went very smoothly. I had by far the least amount of travel which was a real bonus. The MarkBass was in perfect condition and a fair price to boot. Definitely someone who goes out of his way to be helpful and friendly
  15. Sold to Graham today - just as the Lakland arrived, good timing eh? Put a fresh set of strings on the old girl and was very sad to see her go. It's been sitting on a stand in the dining room the past week & I'd forgotten quite how nice it was under spotlights Hope you have fun with it Graham, a very classy piece of kit
  16. I've played in a few functions bands (and still do!) And have always tried to set myself a basic ideal that I'd only ever play in a band that I'd want to go and see. Of course I've played the odd song I've not liked much but generally I've been fortunate enough to be in covers bands that play songs I either like per se or enjoy playing for one reason or another - such as they are a bitch to play and I enjoy the challenge. My last band used to throw in slightly obscure songs but made sure they fitted well with other material and were good dance songs. An obvious example was that we played the 'obvious' Stevie of Signed Sealed but ran it straight into I Was Made to Love Her. Always went down a storm despite the fact that few people knew it. The covers bands that I hate are the ones that are so obviously going through the motions and look bored rigid. One band I was in were never musically great but always played with great enthusiasm and we generally got rave reviews and re-bookings.
  17.
Amazing looking bass! I only sold my Flea because I thought it was a bit limited tonally (due to having only one pickup) but add another pickup and some switching and you probably have my dream bass right there! And it has lane poors Yum.
The flexibility of the second pickup, with individual volume controls, does give a huge range of sound options. The Lanes are very nice as well. Someone with far more ability than I came round to try it & ran it through an EBS combo - sounded lovely through this Had a few offers on this & quite a bit of interest so it may go fairly soon.
  18. So there I was scrawling around Basschat on Sunday night (ironically vaguely appropriate!) with the TV playing in the background & nothing much on. Switched channels to BET and up came the Bobby Jones Gospel show. Not normally my cup of rosy but I thought what the heck, it's music, let's give it a try. First act up was the "legendary" Rance Allen Group - that guy could sure wail. Nice sound on the broadcast, really well mixed kick drum and keys forcing the song along. Bass not that exciting but the overall rhythm section playing underneath the soaring vocals was just great. Really good harmonies from the two male backing singers as well. Went out and did some exploring and there's some really excellent musicianship out there in the USA playing on late night. Andrew Gouche seems to be one of the main men for gospel bass from what I can see. As a fairly devout atheist I've never really bothered with gospel before but determined to "open my ears" a little wider and check some of these guys out! Any recommendations anyone?
  19.
Possibly soon to be followed by a suitcase full of your clothes and then you perhaps? It is a dangerous game you play
I think my ex-wife would have echoed your sentiments There was a day when I popped out to buy some new strings and came home with a Laney 300w head, a huge old Fender 1x15 & a 2x10 as well. At the time my only bass amp was a tiny little Peavey - she wasn't impressed. . . . .
  20.
Be jeezus, what speakers were they?
Acoustic Energy - original series and sat in a box for years! Sold to someone in the European Parliament in Brussels, maybe with more money than sense
  21.
Modern country is part of a fabulous scene in Nashville. IMO where you get a good music scene it feeds into itself and the results can be amazing (think Motown) There is some really good songwriting going on in the genre and some really great playing. One of my personal favourites is Alison Krauss a beautiful voice and a seriously good fiddle player, most of her output is of the highest quality. And she has Dan Tyminski and Jerry Donaghue in her live band. Can't be bad.
I bought a guitar from Jerry D once - his signature Strat serial #0001. Hand built in the US Custom shop, beautiful guitar but a good friend fell in love with it and "forced" me to sell it to him, lol.
  22.
Right...... All PM's answered.... Fair bit of interest in an outright sale of the DB750 - how come when you advertise for a swap everyone wants to pay cash.... but if you need a cash sale everyone wants to swap / px something still hoping someone comes out of the closset with a nice bass for me........ Cheers Mark
There's a nice black Flea Custom up for sale at the moment
  23. I did a bit of a deal with my wife recently - I'll sell the odd bass or two to fund something different but ONLY if I sell something first! So how come I've bought a Status Electro today and a Lakland DPLE and nothing has left my house (except for a wedge of cash!)? Couldn't resist the Status as it was such a bargain and I wanted something to sit on the sofa & noddle with in the evenings & had my eyes on a Lakland for a while and thought Dave's funky green DPLE was too cool to miss out on. So, lo & behold In the past week I've added a dinky MarkBass combo & a pair of basses to the stable. I did actually flog a pair of hi-fi speakers which paid for the MarkBass & most of the Status so I guess I can't complain too much
  24.
that's lovely fantastic price too...
Needs a bit of TLC but nothing a good clean, some new strings & a volume pot won't cure (hopefully!)
