1. Not that I'm looking for a Gorm at the moment but I have seen the newer, and more expensive, NeoGorm 2x10 for sale at around £950 including delivery to the UK so £750 for a used version of a lower priced model is probably a bit on the high side.
2.
Both are great amps... but you are right to lean towards the TD650 and HD350. They are more clean, pure, hi-fi than the Fafner.
I do quite like the look of the Fafner I have to admit - the good old chicken head knobs always look cool! I've also had an offer of a brand new Fafner at the same price as an HD and £300 less than a TD so that's obviously making it look a little more tempting
3. Forgot to add that you can remove the head from the combo really easily and use it as a standalone unit.
4.
I didn't know that and wouldn't have guessed in a million years. Personal opinion, but can't stand Springsteen generally. BBTL is a good song though, if weird.
Here's the Springsteen version if you haven't heard it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN6zFN8cAPs I do prefer the MMEB version of course! Or if you want to hear one of the many more recent cover versions I quite like this one by Funkstar Deluxe : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc_V4QXGPyk...feature=related I feel this may be confirm me as something of a heretic to the purists though
5. Can't really justify hanging on to these as I already another combo and new cabs. The combo is a 350w 1x10 with a positively huge sound for its diminutive size. Will handle small/medium sized gigs on its own and works brilliantly as a stage monitor if you're going through the PA because it has such a clean 'pure' sound. I have two combos up for sale - scroll through the later postings for more details. Attach the CXL and you've got a fair bit more volume and additional lower end punch from the larger speaker. This really is top quality equipment and the sound is amazing given the physical cab sizes. Loads of flexibility from the EQ and fixed pre-sets, easy to match to just about any bass to let the real sound of your bass shine through. I've turned up at gigs with these and afterwards had drummers & other band members ask where I'd hidden the extra cabs and/or how much bass was being fed into their monitors becuase they could hear it so clearly Loads of info about Euphonic gear at the Overwater site: Combo review - http://www.overwater.co.uk/euphonic_audio_...p_350_combo.htm Cab info - http://www.overwater.co.uk/euphonic_audio_cxl_112l.htm All dimensions & stuff are in these links but happy to answer any other questions. Original prices were £1,249 for the combo & £729 for the cab. Price dropped to £775 for the newer of the two combos if sold as a pair with the CXL or £725 for the slightly older combo Principally looking to sell, either as a pair or singly but may be up for interesting trades
6. I'm looking for an EBS head at the moment but haven't had a chance to A/B the Fafner against the TD650. I'm primarily looking for a clean 'pure' kinda sound so leaning towards the TD (or maybe an HD) as EBS seem to position the Fafner as more of a 'rock' head than the TD Not much between them on price (depending on where you shop) so good to get some independent opinions!
7. Cue obligatory shot of Ashdown player getting ears in tune ready for the gig: Sorry, couldn't resist!
8. http://www.lemmymovie.com/ Looks like a fun night out
9.
Somewhere here on BC, someone recommended this interview with Roger Sadowsky http://www.behindthenotes.com/index.php/Fe...menu-id-17.html In it he discusses the Metro range vs. NYC. The Metro's have a limited amount of options, but are the same fit & finish as an NYC. Surprisingly, the NYC basses are chambered to keep the weight down and they have the option of exotic wood tops. It's a great interview (about an hour) and I apologise for not name-checking the BC'er who brought the interview to everyone's attention in the first instance. bassaussie- You're a lucky guy to own 2 (!) Sadowsky NYC basses
Thanks for this - downloading right now!
10.
Blimey i did'nt know we had a bass player from Manfred Manns Earthband posting on Basschat. one of my favourite bands.
Springsteen song originally - and definitely some of his strangest lyrics: Madman drummers bummers and Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat With a boulder on my shoulder feelin' kinda older I tripped the merry-go-round With this very unpleasing sneezing and wheezing the calliope crashed to the ground Some all-hot half-shot was headin' for the hot spot snappin' his fingers clappin' his hands And some fleshpot mascot was tied into a lover's knot with a whatnot in her hand And now young Scott with a slingshot finally found a tender spot and throws his lover in the sand And some bloodshot forget-me-not whispers daddy's within earshot save the buckshot turn up the band And she was blinded by the light Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night Blinded by the light She got down but she never got tight, but she'll make it alright Some brimstone baritone anti-cyclone rolling stone preacher from the east He says: "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in its funny bone, that's where they expect it least" And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner all alone watchin' the young girls dance And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone to remind him of the feeling of romance Yeah he was blinded by the light Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night Blinded by the light He got down but she never got tight, but he's gonna make it tonight Some silicone sister with her manager's mister told me I got what it takes She said I'll turn you on sonny, to something strong if you play that song with the funky break, And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe to go outside And little Early-Pearly came in by her curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride, Oh, some hazard from Harvard was skunked on beer playin' backyard bombardier Yes and Scotland Yard was trying hard, they sent a dude with a calling card, he said, do what you like, but don't do it here Well I jumped up, turned around, spit in the air, fell on the ground Asked him which was the way back home He said take a right at the light, keep goin' straight until night, and then boy, you're on your own And now in Zanzibar a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune Yes, and the avatar said blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon And some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night, Well I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw a gap but figured he'd be all right He was just blinded by the light Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night Blinded by the light Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the sun Oh but mama that's where the fun is I'd like to try some of what he was on the night he wrote this
11. So how did it go? Sorry - was too late to make the advice time!
12. I've recently bought an NYC having lusted after a Sadowsky for many years and when one came up in almost my perfect colour choice I felt like I just had to have it. Interestingly I've noticed that there sometimes isn't a massive difference in price between the NYC & Metro ranges on the used market (well enough to buy an entire used Fender but not on a relative basis, lol). From my limited knowledge the NYC's are obviously rarer and tend to have snazzier finishes but I just wondered what the differences were in real world playing terms, quality of fit & finish, usable tones etc. etc.
13. I've had a couple of looks at this one. Looks like a bit of a frankenstein job on that control plate (as mentioned above). Even if it all works Ok then I think this is really going to effect both the sell on price if you don't like it and the ease of selling because it's a long way from standard. Personally I think you can find a lot better Modulus basses out there if you keep your eyes open. Unlikely to find one for £600 but I think spending a bit more might be better than taking something that's a bit "dodgy".
14. What are the differences between the DTR1000 & 2000?
15. So my new Lakland came fitted with a funky sparkly black bowling ball style pickguard. However it also came with the original minty green. I've been sitting staring at it with the green pickguard fitted over the top of the black one & it also looks nice! So which would you go for? Bear in mind that the green guard isn't sitting flush with the body so might not look quite perfect. Basic body colour is a dark green metallic, not sure how well this shows up in the pics but hopefully you'll get an idea. I've tried to add a poll to see which wins the 'discerning' BC vote
16. I know this might be a bit of a radical suggestion but have you thought about a lighter bass? I slipped a disc in my upper back and went on a quest for something really light. Latest fave squeeze on this front is my Zon VB4. Feels like there's virtually nothing there. Here's a pic of Michael Manring playing one: Obviously these are as rare as a very rare thing indeed but there are obviously other very light basses out there. My Kubicki is vaguely similar, extremely light weight and easy to play on extended sessions. As it happens I also use Comfort Strapps. I have a short and a medium and the short is really only for "home use" when I need a bit of extra balance when playing sitting down.
17. Only just noticed this but thought I'd mention that one of these sold here recently for £350. Sorry to sound negative but just thought I'd let you know why you probably haven't had much interest. at £500 Great cabs though
18.
Brandi Carlile-The Story Hardly difficult but a great song with the chance to really shine through the dynamic range of it.
Good shout John, Never heard of her before but just been listening to her on MySpace. Will definitely try some more of her stuff
19. Shame by Evelyn Champagne King before that it was Ain't No Stopping Us Now by McFadden & Whitehead Really got a disco / funk thing going at the moment
20. Looks like I'm all sorted already! The rather wonderful obbm has volunteered to show me how it's done & he only lives about an hour away from me. You have to love this place sometimes
21. My new (to me) Lakland JO came with a J-Retro from new but has been converted to passive. I'd like to re-fit the J-Retro but have never wielded a soldering iron in my life, although we do have one lurking in the garage! Is this something I could take on myself or should I just get the bass into a proper tech shop & get it sorted properly?
22.
Hi again, Molan. It actually came form Electro in Doncaster. Dave Ryan did me an amazing deal, meaning I actually earned money on my Hofner Contemporary & Squier VMJ fretless by trading them in. There's a first! The Japanese MM's are really nice quality overall. Never played a badly made one at all. Mine's the natural, so you can see the ash grain very clearly. All I've done is changed the Fender 45-105 strings for some Roto 40-100's. The bass has such a thick sound that I thought I'd keep the guages a little higher than I usually would. The 30-90's can be reserved for my Status basses. Also played a brand new just out of the box American Standard Precision (black with maple) & it absolutely sang. Lovely bass, so I've ordered 3TS with tort guard & maple board.
Cool - I really like the look of darker coloured basses with maple boards. I like the ash MM's as well. Still can't make up my mind about that pick guard though. My Status is coming home tomorrow so very much looking forward to giving it a good clean, new strings & playing it properly. I have some flat wound lighter gauge strings kicking around somewhere so may try them out. I'm sure it ought to have round wounds for that acoustic zing but flats might be fun for a more laid back vibe, lol.
23. Good shopping Mr Jazz Sounded like you were going to crack on the Precision front but getting an MM at the same time sounds cool. Did you get them both from the US or did you find what you wanted in the UK? Only asking as I was really close to ordering an MM from the States as the used ones are often really well priced. However I'm a bit wary of long distance ordering on something that has a slightly indifferent rep with regards to quality.
24.
That doesn't sound at all like Chic. It doesn't work without Bernard.
I don't know if you tried any of the more obviously Chic songs from the same gig that are on YouTube but I totally agree that it just doesn't sound "right" somehow. I think it's really interesting that without Bernard Edwards it's all a bit "tribute band" even though you've got the other half of the core band playing? Just goes to show that when someone has a particularly distinctive signature sound they simply can't be replaced by another player who may be technically as good.
25.
Wow that You Tube clip is awesome - thanks for sharing it with us! Shame I missed them on Sky - you do get some great gigs on the more obscure channels at times. Nice onw. Mark
I've been doing some work with Sky recently around their music programming. There really is some good stuff kicking around but you have to work hard to find it! One of my recent faves was some gospel on BET. I have to own up I've never even heard of Urban TV before. The ones I usually have a quick look at are Sky Arts, performance & Mainstream as they are all quite close on the on screen programming guide. I'm guessing Chic will be repeated at some time but I've just had a quick look and can't spot it in the next 7 days. I've really got into using the new programme guide on Sky.com and then remote recording on my Sky+ box. You have to register to do this but means I can pick my programmes sitting at my desk at work & then watch them when I get in. Can't do series record like this yet though. Drives the wife mad as I keep filling the box with music stuff. This week was Led Zep, some gospel, Quincy Jones and then Chic tonight
