1.
hi all, ive just found this whilst searching for scales and such. thought i'd share it as there's some good info to be had.I hope its not old hat but hey
Nice one! Not old hat to me, very helpful.....one of my lazy bass habits (another thread).....( note to self) learn some scales IDIOT!
2. I've noticed very little difference on my Fenders, adds a little bit of extra tension on my fretless but that's about it. I don't use it on a fretted.
3. I'm quite fond of my Zoom 607 chorus effect, not very sophisticated but does the job.......sort of!
4.
I think the most important line on that is..... "the actual location os at the owners discretion" Meaning, put it wherte you like it/want it. there is no right or wrong. If its purely for aesthetics why not put it where they were originally put, below the G string, and use it as a talking point.
+1......think I'll put mine on too...give me something else to gaze lovingly at
5.
Weyyy best bridge ever!!!!!111!11!
Yes, it's a great little bridge, I really liked the string spacers.
6. Forgot I was selling this.....monthly bump!
7.
VERSION's BANDS??? What a crock! It might be that a 4-piece band trying to play a James Brown tune that orginally featured a 9-piece may have to rewrite odd sections for obvious reasons but to suggest that this merits a higher level of creativitiy is like saying Burger King is a classier repost than MacDonald's. You are deluding yourself.
You crack me up bilbo although burger king do better fries.....
8. That's a great looking fretless.....superglue works great, got it on mine, it's really hard wearing
9. Is that your bass molan?
10.
Well yes, in that they both do songs that have been written/made famous by other people, but no in that one tries to sound like the original and the other doesn't. Broadly speaking its all covers but, in the context of this thread, one means that you learn to copy a bass line exactly (possibly to the exclusion of creativity), and the other doesn't (possibly to of exclusion of accuracy, but with room for some creativity). I'm not making any judgement as to their relative merits here. I'd quite happily play in either, or indeed in an originals band (if only I had the talent). Clive
Yeah, I get you mate Hmmm, perhaps I'm in the version type, none of the bass parts I play are THAT close to the originals, the suggestion of the bass part is there but none are identical, I wouldn't put that much time and effort into any covers, it's not that important...surely, unless it's tribute, I can understand the level of accuracy there.
11. Can ya see where they are yet?
12. Wondered how long it would take before the smut set in
13.
I didn't think for a minute that you were seriously accusing anyone of being a bigot - I was just making the point that some people here are just a little too earnest about themselves and their music! You play music because you enjoy doing so and hopefully make a few quid – what is the point of over analysis?
Nothing wrong with being serious about yourself or your music.
14. Cor, we're starting to split hairs here....cover bands, version bands????? same thing aren't they?
15. Didn't John Paul Jones refer to himself as a composer? I don't really know many bass composers apart from the obvious few already mentioned..........but that would make sense really because I don't compose music for band members, I sometimes offer ideas for parts etc with my original band but that's about it...ummm, still can't think of any.
16. All musicians/players are replacable....no matter what he/she is contributing.
17. Yeah, I got to thinking this too after bilbo mentioned art and craft in a post in the covers / creativity thread......I think my own personal bass playing is a craft to me....something I work at, strive to better myself, something I've developed and experimented with rather than considering myself being born with it.
18. I have to keep on top of my playing, a creative outlet is a must for me, the same as earning money, I too think there is potential to lose sight of your creativity, I deal with it by keeping the bread and butter playing seperate from my creative playing.....If I just left my playing to learning a load of covers, playing them 3 times a week at gigs then put my bass away for the rest of the week, I know for a fact it would show in my technical ability and also my creative ability....but each to his own, some players are just born with these things that it doesn't matter how big a gap there is between playing and not playing/creating, they just seem to have it.
19.
Hey i can mojo anything overnight! thats the coolest suggestion I've ever had. Send me your gear guys and I'll have it relicked in no time! I'll throw in a set of string for free!
Are you serious about corrosive sweat????? I'd love my machine heads done and my control plate on my jazz basses
20. The hotter, the sweatier, the better for me....I love being in a hot steaming sweaty gig, what I hate is our singer likes to use a fan and if I go anywhere near it it dries my hands out completley which is really annoying. If I had corrosive sweat I'd sweat all over my basses and get 'em all mojo'd in no time....bottle it and sell it as relic sweat!
21.
I have played in original bands for twenty odd years and have just recently joined a rock covers band which isnt my first choice in music but it keeps me playing Since starting i have noticed that my playing has not gone forward but probably backwards as i dont have to use my artistic ear to make up cool or inventive basslines any more Has anyone else had the same experience
I'm in the same sort of position at the moment, not really my first choice of cover bands but as you say, keeps you out there and also it pays if you get regular work. I just take it for what it is, a normal working covers band, I don't get too wrapped up in it and look at it as not going backwards in your playing but calling on all the fundamental stuff you've learned over the years and using it to earn some cash, using creativity takes a back seat really for me, there's generally very little room "to do your own thing" unless we're covering material that requires it but a bog standard rock band, more often than not need a bass player, to play bass and get it together with the drummer in my experience. Sometimes it does feel as if your just going through the motions, so I try to sort that by learning different things or getting together with players that are nothing to do with rock covers bands.
22. Just had a listen to that...forgot how good a track it was Just go with the flow I reckon, it's got a great feel.
23. Do you know if they are painted inlays?
