1.
Totally agree with both re: Percy Jones. His 1990 CD 'Cape Catastrophe' is (for me) up there with the best Bass albums.
Some more stuff here with Scott Mcgill, if you haven't heard it http://www.myspace.com/jonesmcgillritchie
2.
What posseses you guys to put torty guards on.....
Anti tort?
3. Tort for the jazz...it's the only way!
4. I wanted this bass straight away when Rob let me have a blast on it...it really is a great bass to play....made me want to play all John Entwistley stuff on it The neck was most impressive and if I had the cash I'd be on my way up to your place Rob....good luck with the sale
5. If Fender Jazz basses became illegal or extinct, think I'd go for a Wal. That's a gorgeous bass bilbo, looks really comfortable and loved....that board is in good nick Is that Rotosound or something similar your using?
6.
Jonas Wal doubleneck on Youtube
Cheers! That was a bit good
7. Slightly off topic....but I prefer Dylan songs played by other bands....so does that mean Dylan murders his own songs?
8.
Paula Gardiner, Gill Alexander, Melissa Slocum, Chi CHi Nwanoku (principle Double Bassist with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment), Miranda Sykes, Antonella Mazza..... I could go on - some of these pop bassists are a bit weak when looked at alongside some of the jazz and classical double bass players listed here. There are hundreds of quality female double bassists that could knock these 'celebrity' bassists into a cocked hat. The world of music is broader than you think!
+1 on Paula Gardiner, love listening to her playing...brilliant! 9.
If Memory serves me.... Wilton Felder [Yes, The Crusaders Sax player ] He did a few Early Jackson Tracks on Bass including ABC.. I did the Show Grease out in Japan about 5 years ago. Fantastic Score to play. Garry
The grease score is a favourite of a guitar player I know too...he loves it.
10.
Mo Clifton's double five piccolo - tuned an octave up. He's a brave man BB
whoa! I'd say.
11. Cheers lads, I didn't have a clue who it was
12.
Jonas Hellborg used his Wal doubleneck a lot in the 80's. It turns up on a number of his records. IMO the best doubleneck player around
Oooo, you got any links?
13. I'm 40 in November...any suggestions for some subtle hint dropping I could use on my wife?
14.
7/4? thats devil talk.
I'm with you on that one wayne, that's just the guitar player showing off, I can't count for toffee
15. It's amazing!! Who played it...anyone know?
16. Mwwahaha! I want one!
17. I think Mark Egan has/had one??? Not sure, yeah! they must be out there somewhere.
18. Repetitive lines can be a drag but we need to be able to play them, I need them in a cover band and in my original band the guitar player came up with something that required a straight low D in 7/4 I think it was. They can be quite effective but at the same time boring
19.
My own stuff (if 70s is any use) is here. Also, check eBay, www.gbase.com, Chicago Music Exchange (aka porn central)... Finally, tell him to buy this.
That's a great site wateroftyne....the slideshow for the instruments is...like you say porn central.
20. I always have a little nose around the classified ads on here : http://www.vintageguitar.com/
21. Your welcome Paul, your transaction was mighty swift too! Look forward to seeing the finished project
22. I've got Jazz skirted knobs for a CIJ.....if that's any good for you
23. I'd move on, or in your case, replace the guys who aren't interested. Everyone involved in a band has to be pulling in the same way,IMO.
24.
I know it's not a nice thought, but it's a bit of a predicament isn't it!
I'd be lying if I said...ohhh, I go into sound engineering, or I'll be ok, I'll play the triangle (on a stand)....think I'd breed dogs...maybe.
25. That is such an ugly thought I'd die of sadness.
