1. Background music???? That's weird I've never heard it
  2.
Some berk, chinese whispers, and general bullshit,I wont say what exactly happend, but it was an annoyance un-needed. Can I just say,I am the bands lead Bassist. I was only using the 4 last night, and was frustrated that it was so limiting..tiring too, climbing the neck up/down/up/down,tonight I may go 6...or fretless, whatever the mood may take me. Thing is,the Fender sounds great....And I have 6 packs of strings to get through.
Give that Fender some stick...climb that neck boy!!
  3. That's a gorgeous bass!!!
  4. Cool Mike, That technique you have....at around 1.12 - 1.16 and other times in the vid, is just incredible!!!! Works really well when you have your Wah on, works well other times too of course.
  5.
Naaa, ARGH was just annoyed that someone in the crowd exclaimed while he was playing the 9 "why have the band got 2 guitarists and no bass player" I'M JOOOOKKKING! Si
....t'was a bit funny ARGH! YOU GOTTA LAUGH!
  6.
I was,but an incident at tonights gigs really ,sort of ,flattened me out. For the record,Sometimes, its a real bitch having a screwed up head, its late, and Im not thinking straight. I want to switch off and relax, but I cant,i just have to wait. You have to wait for the low to 'bottom out' as it were/was..and then you climb again.
Incident? Gig didn't go to well then?
  7. We used to have four gigs in my home town, now there's only one left, playing it on Sunday actually.....it's on it's way out too, not many people around, not a good payer. I think it's overkill, bands three nights a week in some places....it shows, when we play a venue that has regular live nights, it's always a bit low on the punters but when we do a venue that has 12 bands a year it's packed and they pay more. It's not a good situation for the covers band I'm with, last year it was 3 nights a week, these days it's down to one or two if we're lucky. July is a bad month for us so far and I'm dreading August.
  8.
Yeah I saw the little anti covers post first thing this morning, and sat back...and thought about it,and then....thought a little more. And went to work, knowing about 10 persons would do everything that I wanted to say. With my spin on covers,to which Im doing the Harley Davidson Rally in Malton in about 3 hrs,is this... Due to covers,I have:- Better stamina,I can stand onstage do 3hrs,and pack up,and sod off home....Most Kids or originals bands are blown out by the 1 hr mark Better equipment,I just have,no arguement,we want the best, and we know its the best, because it works...and HAS to work everytime we plug it in,as nice as that ratty old combo gets you by in the rehearsal/bedroom,its gonna probably crap out ASAP as soon as it touches a stage.I had a massive barny with a few 'mates' over this, and those slaggings and general sniggers dissappear very quickly when a DI or decent bass needs to be borrowed for a gig/recording etc...and when they see the quality and reliability of gear. I dont rub it in,my stuff pretty unflashy, but I know It works. Bills paid, nuff said,I need to eat, feed, clothe, and in some cases buy Bass stuff, though elecy/Gas/water etc, come a'knocking and It feels good that you can just pay them, without having to pull out the plastic. My house, yes, true, they did. The ability to read,Chord charts, songs on the fly...yep,its that surprise element,I can also get out of trouble onstage, better than most. My ears are more alert to foul ups as well.I aint perfect, but Im good. Money in my pocket. IT FEELS NICE!
Sounding positive today ARGH
  9.
I'm still grumpy following last New Years Eve gig - the pub charged £10 to get in, was packed solid, and we were grudgingly allowed one guest per band member. We must have drunk 200 quidsworth of beer between us, and we got f*** all for our trouble. Because if the landlord liked us he might give us another gig. Which we're still waiting for. I found a tenner on the floor though :-)
Makes you sick doesn't it! I hope that was the landlords tenner

    New Gig Rig.
It certainly is Jase yes, oldish but in excellent nick as you say. I just hope it sounds as good as it looks, I'll find out Monday night. Yeah Betsy now has a Vince Ray sticker Ped, one of my favourite artists, as seen adorning Brian Setzers Gretches. I think it just finishes her off nicely. I think Her and the Geddy will make a good team.
Roll on Monday night!
  11.
Good man, I keep promising myself I won't play for sod all but I keep getting suckered by bullsh1t like 'it'll be a laugh' or 'they'll get us loads of paying gigs if they like us'. Hope your stand-in breaks a string ;-)
Cheers bremen, it can get awkward, as you well know....sometimes you feel as if you're letting the side down....but support slots like the one mentioned....surely there's a few quid being made by the big boys?
  12.
I absolutely can't agree with that [he said politely]. My reasons for playing bass [in public] are the right reasons for me at this stage in my life. I spent years doing my time in originals bands getting nowt for playing, getting messed around by venues and promoters. Even when we were doing well [small distribution deal etc] and had supported a very large US band we still struggled to get gigs and when we did we got next to nowt even when playing fairly busy venues in Leeds with punters paying to get in. With 2 young kids, I couldn't justify playing now if I didn't get paid [excepting the charity gigs we do of course].
Same here, I WILL NOT play for nothing. My latest pass on a gig is a support slot for Status Quo in Merthyr Tydfil, my band will carry on with the gig but they'll use another bass player for the day, simply because who ever runs the QUO event doesn't see fit to pay local support, I imagine Stuart Cable's band Killing for Company and Hixie Dixie are getting paid for the gig....so why not us? They can shove it! .......Bands/musicians deserve payment.
  13. That's a bit neat and at the same time, sexy looking too!
  14.
Nah. i never withdrew it because of Kev or anyone else....i'm just gonna hang on to it, it is a nice bass and i think it looks good with the red pickguard, i never really liked the Torty black one...was too jazzy looking for me...now it looks sluttish i quite like it , just a pity it's so heavy and hard on me old shoulder. I tried a Ibanez Articore and was llooking to buy a short scale hollowbody, I was gas'ing for either a Gretsch or a Jack Casady ( i know the casady is long scale) and wanted to put the proceeds to one or the other...i've decided on a Gretsch so the credit card is gonna get a hiding very soon
Red pickguard???? Dear oh dear, I thought it was see thru....I need an eye test
  15.
yeah, spent last night in a rehearsal room teaching the 'Drummers mate' who plays guitar the parts, and cues for how we play the songs...hes lernt our set..we've been assured (Has he f***). COvers..If it was not for the money,we wouldnt do it?!
That's an annoying thing, when a player reckons they've learnt the set and quite clearly they haven't, fair enough if said player is capable of doing it there and then but when it turns into a "teaching of parts" session the whole rehearsal can become a drag.
  16.
To be honest Jase,I think Ive fallen out of love with playing.
Nah, it's always there, although I get what you mean, I sometimes have terrible rows with my playing or even more so with a particular bass. Think of it like this.....if your ability to play, write, perform, etc, were taken away for ever...surely you'd want it back? In which case I reckon that would mean you haven't fallen out of love with being a bass player/musician...even if you think you have. It'll come together, I think lots of us feel we're at a stagnent stage at some time or another. FWIW, I'm at a rut at the moment, hate the covers band I'm in, original project is costing loads and nobody is interested....but do we stop? NEVER!!! NEVER!!!! I'm 40 and I'll still be shouting "bass rules" when I'm 70 and I reckon you will to.
  17.
Started applying on websites, the majority Ive used before, but hey...its hope.
Something will turn up sooner or later.

  22. Does look a bit nice, always wanted a blast on a maple fretless but as usual I'm skint....looks like you'll have to buy it clive. They could've put an "best offer" on it though.

  24. Fine looking bass, quite like a see thru pickguard on a P
