1. 57 basses!!! So how long have you been collecting?
2. I love naming basses, mine are always girls My Geddy was Dirty Tracey, Sunburst Jazz Fretted is Morag and my Black Jazz Fretless now has my Geddy's old name, I sold my 62 CIJ Reissue, she was called Love you Long Time. Sadder still, I call my 8x10 Julie.
3. I think Jeanluc's set list is a great example too! It's really good when you come across a covers band who have plenty of material, makes for a good night!
4. I think the musicians/players that are worth anything are the ones who are always trying to better themselves, challenge themselves, the ones that know there is always someone better around the corner and are always willing to learn from other players/musicians. I don't think anybody is too good, nobody is perfect and all that......That would mean as a player, you would have it all, just doesn't happen.
5. I love it and want it...but the price is just nonsense, why are they this much????? I've never understood it.
6. Percy Jones for me, or Victor Bailey doing Low Blow.
7. For the covers band there are no rehearsals at all, we all rely on eachother to do the homework, make sure we all learn the same versions of the covers we've decided on, if any one of us hasn't been able to for any reason....it's tough luck and try to keep up! For original material, it varies but not long or often at all, I find rehearsals hard work and eventually boring.
8. Auditions are a waste of time IMO, you generally know if you or they can cut it by just talking, I don't think I've actually had a "proper" audition or been involved with a band who "hold" auditions on a certain date etc.
9. Keep on jamming, that's a really good way to get your timing right with the other guys, particularly with the drummer. Why not arrange for just the two of you to get together and go through some bass and drums (the best part of any band ) and see what sort of feel/groove you come up with. Or go out and see some live bands, check out what the rhythm section is doing. Main thing is...keep playing, try things out, we all make mistakes and sometimes good grooves come from mistakes. Get in there mate
10. There's only one thing for it Jase.....Fender!
11. I only take one bass, I have a few spare leads, don't bother taking spare strings, unless there is an old set left in my case, a screwdriver or two just in case my straplocks decide to work loose, nothing else really....it'll all backfire one day and I'll need that back up bass
12. Hondo....I reckon.
13. Just noticed there's a fret missing.
14.
don't think it's a westone
Damn!
15. That'll be Lemmy's bass he used to record the Ace of Spades.....or is it maybe a Westone?
16. Same here Ped, I haven't had one in ages......last one I had was given to me
17.
Some cool tips here, especially just jamming with a beat, even if you just plan a single note on the 'one'. I never practie a set regime but prefer to just play for fun and if I think of a groove in my head I can normally play it after sometimes a bit of work. There are loads of exercises out there which improve dexterity and so on and one cool one I found was by John Patitucci's brother, called the 'Spider (the exercise, not his bro) Play this: G----5----4----3---------3-----4----5---- ----------------------------------------- A-3----4----5--------5------4----3------- ----------------------------------------- Repeat and see how fast you can play it with a steady rhythm. Try moving the pattern around the bass and playing with a beat, then try throuwing in a few fills. It may look easy but it is quite hard to play consistently for a length of time at speed... Cheers ped
Oooo, just had a crack at that...it's quite.... HARD!
18. Well, they haven't reached my street yet...good idea Ped, shouldn't take me long to knock everybody up!
19.
www.myspace.com/circlestudios though am pretty bombed until Christmas
Good to be busy Thanks for the link.
20.
Ha ha classic
Aye, I thought so too
21. Shoegazing.......reminds me of a review a young lady gave of our original band...well the first "version" of it: Zombie Prom Club - Multi Storey Earthworm - Newport TJ's 14/11/06 "The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven." Milton was wrong. There's no dreaming yourself away to an imaginary paradise when the likes of Multi Storey Earthworm are on stage. There's no escape. No vocals, lots of gazing at the floor, directionless hippie guitar-noodling and beards. BEARDS. (When I rule the world, bands with beards will be taken outside and shot without trial -- but that's a whole other rant.) Honestly, this sort of thing is fine in the privacy of one's own garage, but subjecting the rest of us to it is just plain cruel. Jessica Trash. So....no dancing for me.
22.
Have you tried the NGM complex at Thornbury? Their link is below: www.ngm.org.uk We used to rehearse there and they have an amazing studio. Mark
Cheers Mark.
23. Some nice interviews of Manring: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVUeJMMr6dA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uJFAIHHllU...feature=related Really mellow type of guy.
24. Ello, Right, we're in need of a studio, not to record but mix already recorded material. We'd need all the usual digital facilities, Pro Tools, etc....Can anyone recommend a place in the mentioned areas? cheers Jase.
