i did consider the ha3500 but with the 4000 going for just 100quid felt no point getting 3500 for more money...but then i thought the same about the 7000! and now the trace elliot head in this listing is going for 100quid http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TRACE-ELLIOT-350-WAT...1QQcmdZViewItem but cant find anything on the internet about series 6, they any good?or more to the point better than the hartke?
£100? that's good! I used to have a Trace Elliot 300watt GP7 SM Preamp, that was another good amp, out of the three you've mentioned, personally it's Hartke for me but ask another player, they may say Ashdown or Trace. It really is all down to you mate
The 7000 can handle two 4 Ohm cabs, or four 8 Ohm. To be quite honest, unless you want the biamp facility or the ability to drive a wall of cabs, then the 7000 will be overkill. Have you given any thought to the HA3500? They have the same front end as the 7000, can be picked up pretty cheaply these days, and the difference between 350 and 400 Watts is less than 1dB (ie you'll never notice it) Andy
That 7000 sounds like some serious gear. Agree with Alien on considering the 3500 and going by past comments and players who use the 3500 on this forum, it's a powerful amp and has the valve/tube circuit???? and delivers!
-
Hi ash, you can connect two 8ohm cabs to the HA 4000 or one if you wish, Hartke reckons it will then be 220 watts @8ohms and 400@4ohms. That's about all my knowledge on amp, ohms, etc...
-
I'm using the HA4000 at the moment, I'm pleased with it so far but I'm not taking full advantage of the controls initially I did spend time with different settings and would say it's capable of good tonal shaping/EQ results, it's also very powerful. It has an output for a subwoofer, not sure if that's the same thing as the 7000. You can also get super deep bass or sub harmonics with it's D bass EQ. I've also used an Ashdown and had a great sound from that on a gig, I wouldn't say one is better than the other...both good amps, all a matter of taste really
Hah Hah! Agreed, except I was inept, played a reasonably correctly intonated Walking on the Moon, and made a twat of myself trying to play some jazz licks :-)
I made a twat of myself too, in front of my kids and dog...so it went to a better home and I went back to my electric -
Talking of SX basses I come across this vid of Marlowe DK..great player, he's using an SX fretless, sounds good too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT2bKBg2J-k
Thank you, Jase! ;-) I tried a few amps with my new Corvette $$ at the Bass Gallery today (top chaps, great shop!) .. - PJB Briefcase - not bad but nowhere near the headroom I need for small stage monitoring, and the sound didn't please my ears, too transparent for me. Wanted to try the Flightcase but they had none in. - GK MB150E-III/112 which I was very impressed with, the chorus was 'orrible but it's loud enough, sound quite nice and full of features. - Micromark - nicest sound of all but I could still hear the mice scampering over the max volume. I wanted to try a Mini but they had none in. - And a pre-owned original SWR Baby Blue 2x8. This was my favourite, loud, great preamp, highly versatile, quite small. They want £650 though which I reckon is a bit steep as it's got a bit of wear and tear cosmetically. Oh, and I had a crack on a NS Design Upright. Never played an upright before. It was a soul-stirring experience, beautiful! I want to make my Jazz fretless again now! I just spent ages refretting it too :-/ Might try epoxying the fretboard this time. The amp search continues.
Yeah, I really enjoyed trying upright too, couldn't put the thing down, very physical instrument. DO IT, rip the frets out bit of epoxy...it's addictive! Good luck with the amp search. -
A late 90's Jazz...love them!
I heard this amp at the London Guitar Show. I already own a Hartke 3500 and this amp sounded comparable (which is brilliant to my ear!). I think I'm in a similar boat to yourself as I don't use the graphic EQ on my amp at all, and just use the high/low contour controls for a slight tweak depending on the sound of the room. If I get back to gigging regularly then I'm definitely buying the LH500 as a backup. I'm sure the rep at the Show said the retail would be £250-£300. That quote you've put there basically means that it's a hybrid amp. The pre-amp contains a little 'cheap' pre-amp valve to simulate the sound of a valve amp, but it uses solid-state/'transister' power amp. The same trick used in my 3500.
Thanks peted, well if it's comparable to a 3500 then that'll do for me I've thought about the 3500 myself but it's back to the EQ etc, thing again...I'm just not going to get that much use out of it, I'm looking for the simple volume, bass, mid and treble and the LH500 seems to offer that at a good price. Thanks for explaining the valve simulation

Ello, Just been milling around bassmerchant.com and came across the Hartke LH500 http://www.bassmerchant.com/item_detail.ph...;category_id=2# At the moment I'm using Hartke HA4000, which is a good amp, punchy and plenty of volume if needed, only thing is and it's not a complaint, the HA 4000 has an array of controls none of which I actually use to any major degree, most things are set flat, so here is where the LH500 comes in...it looks a lot simpler to use, just wondering if anybody has used/heard one and could somebody possibly explain: "Classic 12AX7 Class-A tube front-end design with a solid-state output." Jase.

Has anyone tried or does anyone use DiMarzio straps?

Ha! Much better choice of video bnt Used carefully you can do all manner of things with Dimarzio clip locks -
Are strings more likely to break if strung thru body rather than thru bridge? I found that they last about 4 gigs when strung thru the body before the e or a string goes kaput. They dont break at all when strung thru the body. Is the tone benefit worth it? On the plus side, I have become a dab hand at changing strings mid set now. Even changed a whole set(settled in too) in a 10 minute break last saturday.
Aye, thru body puts a nasty little kink in them.

I've used one on a Jazz, no trouble with the clips, apart from when I put it in the case, tuck it in before you close the lid Oh! and they're very smooth too...so smooth you can do this.. Phwoa!!!!! What a superb version of Heart of Gold!

That's a great looking Jazz!

I've also been looking for a short scale bass for my daughter, 7.....think the Daisy Rock may be a little big. I think maybe 25" scale would be suitable, can't find any though.

Me too, very rarely keep any music files on my pc these days for the covers band!
Tell you what.. wish I hadn't bothered trying to sort something out.. all it's done is upset the apple cart with the 2 guitarists now hardly speaking to me (it seems) and the rest of us who do want to gig kind of just shrugging our shoulders and saying 'wtf??'
Guitar players are big nancys',....they need a firm hand
Latest in the saga... guitarist 1 has full out refused to play it or anything between now and the end of august... *rolls eyes*
Normal reaction from a guitarist
