Jase dont get hung up on the switch idea, the UK ones dont come with a switch, buts its idea was to switch the polarity of the two halves of the pup. Apparently it didnt make much of a difference! Adj pole pieces are way cool tho', as you can adjust the string balance....
Cheers Burpster, just wondered what it did It's looking Schaller or Dimarzio because of the pole adjustment.
To be honest, no idea. I bought them in 1997 or so... They don't have adjustable polepieces tho and look more like the JB6 pickups with the chunky polepieces. But they aren't humbuckers. Argh. Maybe I've jsut confused the matter - get Wizards!!
Can you tell me what the micro switch is for?
I've always been astounded at the enormous volume I get out of the Schallers in my J copy. It is a passive bass which has a hotter output than all my active basses excpet my fretless Groove... Not as commonly named as a choice PUP but bloody loud!
Are they the Schaller JBX type? Just had a quick look, I like the adjustable pole option, like Dimarzio.

It's time to say goodbye to the stock USA Jazz pickups I've been using for ages and find something with a little more wallop I'd love to here about any pick up mods people have made to their Jazz basses. The only model I have any experience with is the Dimarzio P's, which I thought were great but it's just J pups I'd like to hear about these days Jase.

Where would you say MOST of your sound comes from?
I would have to say based on my own 30 years of experience playing live that its down to the individuals technique. I have heard brilliant players sound brilliant playing a bag of old sh*te through another bag of old sh*te and at the same time I have heard poor musicians sound sh*te through the best gear you can buy. You generally find that most really experienced players can get virtually the same sound no matter what they are using, that would indicate to me that technique is all important. that applies to guitarists as well as bass players
+1 -

It's the player him/her self. -
I've decided That a spare amp is needed....so, got my eye on a Hartke LH500. All I want to do is cover the cost of the amp with it's delivery which is £270..ish give or take. Ok, wear and tear, the bass has only been used at home, I have used it quite a lot so I would say it needs a set up, and a board dressing, due to rounds being used. The bass is in good condition, apart from slight damage to paint work where the truss rod meets the body....see pic: No other significant marks or dings other than normal use. The pick guard is not CIJ, it's from an ebay shop and is slightly short of the control plate, it hasn't been fitted and still has plastic covering: There are also genuine Fender bridge and pick up covers, which also haven't been fitted. I also have a Fender thumb rest, not fitted but does come with a Jazz plate plan for fitting. The volume and tone knobs are from a USA Jazz, I'll put the original ones in too with some screws for the pick guard and covers. As pics show the bass comes with a hardcase, also a Dimarzio cliplock strap, again not fitted, some washers for the vintage type pins. I think that's about it, looking for an offer around the price of the amp I need. Jase.
Of course, those few basic tools mean you have to stop in the middle of the Set, strip your Bass down, repair whatever's wrong, and then carry on as if nothing happened. Not very realistic, is it? Even brand new Basses have been known to 'die' without warning, and there's nothing looks more professional than just grabbing your spare Bass and carrying on. Sods Law dictates that a perfectly reliable instrument will become unreliable at the most important time of your life, (or even just in the middle of your solo ) and that is when all the "Why bother with a back-up?" and "You must be pessimistic" jibes from your Band-Mates are answered in one fell swoop. I have been gigging for over 40 years (yes I'm that old!) and in all that time, I have only had my main Bass let me down three times, but the cheap stand-by kept the Gig going, the Punters dancing, and everybody else smiling. p.s. and a second hand Crate Powerblock in my Leads case. Any sound is better than nothing!
What can I say? I live life on the edge Joking aside....my bass, which ever one I take, is checked before I leave for a gig, double checked in a sound check, leads etc are also checked before I leave and again checked at a gig...I can honestly say my bass has never let me down They get used daily, so if anything does go wrong it tends to get fixed before a gig. Sods law this weekend, it'll all go horribly wrong
