Just bought a lava cable tightrope kit from simon, great guy to deal with and the item was exactly As described. Top bloke guys, but with confidence!
  2. My sister in law is a massive DD fan, and a JT fan as well. Having experienced the 80's as a child, I had pRetty much condemned most of the pop music from this era as absolute garbage. After a few drinks one night we hit into a "discussion" about the merit of DD and johns playing ability, we me concluding that she had no clue what she was talking about, however I did promise to have a listen to rio. I was blown away when I heard it, and as others have said, there are other great songs, I also like notorious. I will learn to Play them one day!!
  3. This Often happens out of Practical necessity. I worked as a stage lighting tech on many productions including live music award ceremonies. In this instance there just isn't enough time to adjust the levels between artists so some it all of the acts will have some or all parts played from a recording. It works really well, unless of coarse something goes wrong, like the only guitarists strap breaks!
  4. Someone really needs to buy this.... At £350 you are getting close to the value of a Mexican made fender, which is nowhere near the build quality of these. I have the exact same colour in a 5 string and it is an absolute pleasure to play. My only criticism is the crappy scratch plate which on the 4 string are readily available to replace. The MM snobs will not agree, but these are every bit as good as the full blown stingray in terms of quality of build and components, just not quite so pretty to look at. If you need a 'ray and you only do pubs/clubs THIS is the bass for you, and at this price it's a steal. Personally even if I had a stingray I don't think I'd take it to the venues I play, and if my SUB got stolen or damaged id be massively upset, but I wouldn't be as much as it was a stingray. The old saying is true with these USA SUBs, they are not "half" as good as a stingray as Their price tag suggests. With regards to weight, I find it more comfy to play than my fender jazz 4, it appears to be a little more tail heavy and just sits wher I need it where the jazz tends to need a little push to get the neck up a little. If it were a different colour maybe I would.... GOD DAMN YOU GAS!!!! Good luck mate!
  5. I'd be interested in the lava cable and plugs if you decide to split!!
  6. That looks flippin sweet dude!!!
  7. This reminds me of the joke.. How many country bass players does it take to change a light bulb? Five, one, five, one, five, one...... :-)
  8. There is no shame, country CAN be awesome!!! My faves are Big and Rich, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban (especially his stuff with Ranch), and Alan Jackson. Adam Brand is cool for an Aussie country artist, and the chicks dig it by Chris Cagle is a belting tune. The Dixie Chicks never cease to amaze me.... I was fortunate enough to tour with them as a stage lighting tech is early 2000's on their australian tour and was blown away every night. It was on this tour, sat side of stage, watching Jerry Flowers ( bass player and ex Ranch member) rock out night after night that inspired me to start playing music again, and most importantly pick up a bass! Country music is unlike any other genre, there is usually a lot of collaborative work between artist/songwriters which provides amazingly written music arrangements and heart felt lyrics. It is the white man's blues (not being racist guys! :-) ) and if you can get past the fashion and the drawl (neither bother me) it can be great fun. Now where is my Big and Rich cd....
  9. Really? No love for this gorgeous bass? It's Been giving me nightmares mate, I hope someone buys it soon, otherwise ill end up trying to explain another purchase! Have a bump and good luck
  10. I could be wrong, but I believe the vt bass is Meant to simulate the sound of an 8x10 svt cl rig? THe BBDI is more of the SVT 2 simulation (feel free to correct me) without cab effect, and has the DI. The VT can go more gainy/grittier from te shout outs I've seen. I have a BBDI and would add a VT, so they are different enough
  11. In my band, smells like Seattle, we do the whole grunge tribute so we have a few different tunings. I jus leave one in concert pitch, one in drop D and the other in Eb. Then we group songs together in tunings so me minimise the time between songs mucking a out retuning. In an ideal world, my jazz works better tha my PJ for some songs, so I wod use it for the appropriate song if tuning was no issue. Nothing wrong with swapping mid set as long is it not EVERY song
  12. No, I've played a corvette though. I've watched several youtube reviews and they do sound great. They sound stingrayish, but seem to have a little more variety, of which I'm not entirely sure how much I would use!! They do look nice though... To be honest if I could afford a streamer stage 2, I'd probably go that way, but the corvettes are mile cheaper, and the $$ seems to be the most popular variant of the vette
  13. Pretty straight forward really, would like to hear everyone's thoughts on which you would prefer. I currently have a MM SUB 5 which I love, but quite look the look of the corvette $$. Is the extra tonal variety worth it? Would you trade one for the other or is it justifiable to have both?
  14. Just jump in. I procrastinated for ages before recently getting my first fiver, and I'm not going to say its a nothing transition, it just takes a little planning and thought. I have 2 4 strings, and I find that if I play on one for a while and then swap to the other to play the Same songs, it feels a little awkward and takes a little while to settle back in. It's the same with the 5, if i spend all my time on it I'm fine, if I jump back on a 4, ill hit the A instead of the E just silly stuff. I now have songs for certain basses, so when I run through my bands set list I swap out throug my practice so I know what to expect. Playing a 6 should be no different, unless you build it up to be something huge in your own head. Just do it and get on enjoying it!!!
  15. As an aside, a highway one might be a good mid point if you want something a little better than mex, but not full blown USA price
  16. I have a mex jazz, and love it... Now! The pickups were awefull, so replaced them with dimarzio dp123's and also put on a gotoh 201 bridge. Aside from that, the fit, finish and feel is great, and picked it up second hand for £275 so who can argue with that,
  17. If I had the cash, I would have sent you a PM! Unfortunately I have cleaned out my play money account and have a leaking roof that needs fixing!!
  18. Wow!
  19. Bad man!!!
  20. Damnit I thought I had cured my GAS for now.... My latest purchase hasn't even been delivered yet Thor, what are you doing to me??? That mxr would look great on my board next to the vt bass.... Good luck buddy
  21. This topic comes up a bit, whether it be playing bass, academia or sport. While I firmly believe that some people a blessed with a distinct advantage and ability to do something, without hard work and dedication, they will NEVER reach greatness. The David Beckham's and Jaco's of this world have had to put in hours and hours of dedicated practice to achieve the levels they did. There is no substitute for repetition. You could argue, and probably win, that not everyone can achieve the same level with the same amount of practice without having a natural tendency towards something, but at the end of the day they will still be vastly improved on where they started. I aim for greatness with my playing, and may die before achieving it. The fact is with hard work I will be better than I was yesterday, and that's enough to keep me going. I think back to where I was 2 years ago, and I am a completely different player now, but still pushing on. All that aside, ENJOY playing your bass, and welcome to the elite group of REAL musicians ;-)
  22. Just picked up an ehx bassballs from 2x18, great transaction cheers mate!
