1.
It could be to do with our nature or personality. I was once in a band where we all played sunday football together, our drummer was the keeper, I played as either centre half or defensive midfielder, lead guitarist was our playmaker/attacking midfielder and singer was our main striker. Make of that what you will.
I am LOVING this story
 2. Having been LOVING my Tribes, Vibes and Scribes album. Although tying myself in knots trying to play Colibri I am feeling the need for more Incognito in my collection. So basschatters... what album next? I prefer the funky instrumental stuff most. Thanks
 3. I don't know if I was born to be a bassist. I've always loved music.... So started playing the recorder in primary school, I was good, so they gave me a guitar when I was about 8, went on and did Spanish classical, getting to Grade 5 by the time I was 11. Went to comprehensive school, was viewed as being a good little musician, so they lent me an Oboe, sat Grade 3 within 6 months, so my parents bought me one of my own .... Got up to Grade 8 and was part of the National Youth Orchestra and even toured China at 15. However, throughout all these years of playing instruments sitting firmly in the treble clef, I had a yearning to play bass. It was what I noticed first about songs... Whilst friends were singing the lyrics, I was singing and tapping out the basslines. I didn't actually get a bass until well into adulthood and haven't looked back. I don't think I'll ever be as good as I was on the oboe, but I love it, it feels like home. So born to play seems a little extreme, but I have certainly gravitated towards it. That said I'm doing an acoustic gig tonight where I am playing my Spanish guitar that I've had since I was 10

 10. I have worked with a guitarist who played with a very flash Marshall stack, expensive guitar... He had the kit just not the skill. I'm currently working with a guitarist who plays an old battered guitar and mics up a practice amp which is probably nearly as old as me.... He sounds awesome and he knows how to use it for big gigs!! So I agree, it's what the sound is like that matters That said, when I could afford to get rid of my old Laney amp and stupidly heavy 1x12 and 2x10 boy did I do it!! My barefaced cab and Mark bass amp are as much for moveability as they are to look good.... But then I am a girl My main bass was bought second hand from BassChat! I'd NEVER have been able to have afford it at a brand new cost!
 11. Pino for me. He's such a versatile player and can jump in to any situation and do exactly what is needed. Also his fretless work is stunning. And he's a Cardiff boy which always helps In seriousness, Sharay Reed knows how to groove for R&B type stuff, but I couldn't see him making such leaps in styles that Pino can (unless I'm missing some of Sharay's work in which case I apologise)
 12. Anyhow back to the topic A good example of not having good skills but being able to do what is needed is Sharon Finn. She's been bass playing for her husband Neil (of crowded house fame). Her skills were dreadful, but nobody apart from any bassist in the crowd would have noticed. She had good timing and sounded good in the mix. Everyone enjoyed the gig and nobody would have noticed. So in my mind, was a good bass performance if you only used your ears!
 13.
Regarding women wanting it both ways, that is not remotely my original idea. It is one that leading feminist academics and commentators have put forward for many years now. And sex and show business are equally entwined for both men and women, so there is no inconsistency or incongruity there either. So what exactly is your point? Where do you think I am going wrong?
If you can't re-read what you've written and see how you can be perceived as being offensive and inflammatory, then I really don't know what I can say.
 14.
The point is that women want it both ways. They claim to want equality and to be taken seriously, whatever that might mean, whilst at the same time shamelessly exploiting the benefits of inequality and exploiting their sexuality for personal gain if that opportunity presents itself. Sex and show business are inextricably linked, not least of all because sex will always be the most enthralling and compelling form of entertainment for mankind, so incorporating sex into other forms of entertainment will make them more attractive by association.
Um excuse me, but I think I missed the memo where it was agreed that you would be spokesperson for my gender!! Sexuality has NOTHING to do with my bass playing! for starters I'm podgy, average attractiveness at best and the wrong side of 40, so hardly a sex symbol or able to exploit the fact that I have breasts!! I want to be valued for doing my job within the band. I have auditioned for bands where men have also auditioned and have got the gigs. I would like to think it was as a result of my playing and not the fact I have ovaries! And whilst we are on the subject, I don't think exploiting sexuality for personal gain is a female thing at all.... How many boy bands are based entirely on that premise? But you are the self appointed expert on this, so I'm guessing my opinion is worthless anyway. In answer to the Topic, I think Yolanda Charles is a hugely inspirational bassist, with incredible skills.
 15.
A Welsh Floyd band? Shouldn't you be called "One Of These Dai's"..?
Love it I'm trying to get the band to perform Sheep as I think it just HAS to be done
 16. I ONLY play finger style. Can't play with a pick for toffee
 17.
My favourite female bassist... http://youtu.be/vFPXI_xaSWM
Ah Douglas, you are such a sweetheart xxx Although, I am not with those guys anymore. 18.
Best female player I've ever seen live is Yolanda Charles. And she's a great singer. And also seems to be a really nice person. Oh, and she's beautiful of course. I hate her, lol!
+1 to this.... And she's a basschatter She a big inspiration to me.
 19. Also Scottish Cyclist, Craig Maclean is bassist in a Manchester based covers band the Fraudsters
 20.
Fleetwood Mac - I need your love so bad That was on the bass. However, first song I ever played live was "The Entertainer" on a descant recorder in a Butlins talent Competition when I was 9 and I won! I still have the photo of me on the stage with my winners certificate!! I may dig it out later After that, it was Spanish Classic guitar, then the oboe and then I finally got to the bass
I've found the photo!! I've realised I was 10 and not 9 as I'm wearing earrings and getting my ears pierced was my 10th birthday present
 21. Just got in from my first gig as Welsh Floyd. Basically two of us from my old Floyd band have reformed with 3 people from another disbanded Floyd band and a keyboard player that we all know well. We've been together for exactly 2 weeks and had 3 rehearsals. However, as we are all hard working professionals we had an absolute blast!! 1 hour in the local Harley Davidson festival (a gig that I had booked as the old Floyd band that we honoured as they didn't want to). We went down brilliantly and had a standing ovation. Even better we've picked up a few future bookings! Awesome! I had a few bits of my own playing I wasn't completely happy with. But I will listen to the recordings and beat myself up in my own time However, the crowd loved us. Was also lovely to see and catch up with a basschatter, the gorgeous Mr Fretbuzz
 22.
Their guitar shop has some lovely unusual stuff in there as well.
They do, hubby was eyeing up a resonator last time we were there.
 23.
My home bass shop. And I live in Devon!
Snap, and I live in South Wales!! The job they did de-fretting an Ibanez SR300 for me was brilliant. Their service is great and friendly and when I'm in the market for a new bass I know where I'll be going.
