1. Punter, plays bass, massive pink Floyd fan, says "I've seen Brit Floyd a few times and you are a better bassist than they've got" it's not true, I have seen Ian Cattell several times and he's great, but a lovely compliment none the less I just think he was shocked at seeing a fretless bass in a social club
2.
I'd rather be caught w*****g than listening to Pink Floyd
Wash your mouth out with soap and water young man!!!!!!!
3. Lady in Red - Chris DeBurgh. That song still make me cringe!!
4. Brilliant. Can feel your excitement, can't beat performing live
5. My bass playing helps my next door neighbours sleep!! I don't play after about 7pm though as they have an older child as well. So I tend to get my practice in as soon as I get home from work at about 5ish. Glad you have made a jump forward, always satisfying when that happens.
6. Well, tonight's gig was a world of difference to last weeks gig. Last week we played to a sell out theatre, this week the grand total of 11 people!!! We only just made enough to pay the sound man! However, those 11 people were incredibly enthusiastic and cheered loudly Also being such an "intimate" gig, we were able to chat to them all individually Two of the 11 played bass, and were incredibly complementary and were very impressed that I played fretless. You win some, you lose some. But we still played our all for those 11 punters!! A few weeks until the next gig now.
7. We use Dizzyjam, they are excellent.
8. It's the slim neck that really makes me an Ibby fan. Whilst I love the tone quality, you can get comparable (and better) sound in a lot of cases. Being a girl, my hands aren't very big, and I had a P bass and would be very quickly in pain through playing. Switched to my original SR300 and never looked back! I don't think I could play anything else now! Have had a tinkle on a few basses (a gorgeous Aria the other day) but I don't think I'd ever own anything else!
9. I met him and his Mum a few times, as they lived in a small seaside town near me. He was wonderfully weird! RIP Steve, you'll never fade to grey in my mind.
10. I play Ibanez basses exclusively. I had a SR300 defretted for me by Wunjos and it's lovely. My main bass is an SR1000 and it is a stunning instrument. My back up bass is an SR300. Fabulous sound quality. I LOVE them
11. This isn't the dark side.... This is those enlightened ones that have seen the light Welcome
12. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd It is musical artistry and just has to be listened to from start to finish.
13.
Your sister called her daughter Twee Bass
It's better than Frankie
14.
Not sure if I was in the zone. Definitely not high, I would never ruin the rush I get from performing with alcohol or any mind altering substance. Plus when I'm playing ,I'm working for someone and wouldn't perform high any more than I would show up at a regular 9-5 job high. I leave the drinking and getting high to the punters. I'm there to provide a service and get paid. But that's just me. Blue
Me too!! I never touch a drop of alcohol and pick up my bass! Just like at work I'd never have a glass of wine and attend a meeting, it's all about professionalism IMHO!
15.
"Don't mention the sheep" would be an awesome T-Shirt for Welshmen
Or welsh women too maybe Welcome, I am loving your sense of humour already!!
16.
Spandex
Lol! That's just your fetish sweetheart!! Dazed - the rest of us just bring whatever kit we fancy, a bass or two, an amp or cab etc etc. Oh and some money to contribute to the venue and teas and coffees
17.
It's godawful all right, but the title of Worst Song Ever Recorded will always go to Macarthur Park. Any version of Macarthur Park, but especially Donna Summer's and Richard Harris'. Yes I know it's a Jimmy Webb song, but we all have off-days and my god he was having a real baddie when he penned that excreble bilgewater.
That song does my head in. What kind of a crazy person leaves a cake out in the rain. And what kind of person gets rid of a recipe when they don't know if they like it or not. Irritates me like anything, but from a cookery perspective
18.
Ooh, SpaceChick - give me a 5-string and Little L and I'll be in bass heaven!
That's my favourite song too!!
19. I have 2 basses on stage with me.... My 4 string fretted and my 4 string fretless.... I switch between them and when I need to drop tune to D, I just quickly do it! The fact that it's two different bands, one playing in concert, one playing a semitone down, I can't see the problem of just tuning when you get there to whatever tuning and job done.
20. Interesting one this! I'm not into metal but absolutely loved playing Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath etc when I was in a metal band. Haven't listened to them once since I left. I love listening to Jamiroquai but those basslines are beasts I have the best if both worlds right now as I Love listening to and playing Floyd
21.
What orchestra were you in - National Youth Orchestra of Wales? I was in that! Around the same sort of time too though I didn't get to go on the China tour. However, I did get to tour Holland with the wind band and ended up buying a very fetching leather cap from a lovely shop on Valkenburg...
I was in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. However, the China trip wasn't with them, it was a West Glam group. It meant I missed the Nat tour of Edinburgh though (I know what was better ) What wind instrument did you play Chay? I remember a curly haired funny lad on the bassoon... That wasn't you was it?
22. You can generally get a faster speed due to the up/down nature of a plectrum. Finger style, it takes a lot of practise and endurance to get that kind of speed. It's also quickly lost too. When I played in a metal band that included a few Iron Maiden tracks my finger speed was super fast. Now I play in the Floyd band I've lost the level of speed I used to have. I know I could get it back with practice though. It's like the old saying "if you don't use it, you lose it!"
