1. Has this event died a death? I'd still be up for something Bristol/Bath way if the Exeter/Dorset one isn't happening.

4. isnt "at least one more" the answer to this question in all circumstances?
5.
To be honest, I think at the moment a lot of the starter kit has got so much better from when I started playing guitar. I'd avoid Encore though.
I got an encore p bass in a job lot of stuff I bought a while ago and was surprised by it. it was very playable and had a decent tone For a cheap bass. I sold it on for £50 cos i didn't need it but it was a perfectly good for a stater and I was tempted to keep it as a back up.
6. I bought a pedal from paul. It was all as described at a good price and posted in double quick time wirh excellent comms. I'd happily deal with him again as it was a really easy deal. cheers Steve
7. I used to have the mb450 head and ran it with a pair of peavey 210tx cabs both at 4ohm which sounded great. If 300 watts into a 410cab isnt loud enough for you I'd look at a peavey extention cab. much more common 4ohm than Marshall and cost peanuts.
8. Cheers that's what I was thinking but thought I'd better check.
9. oh and I have a hartke bass attack to run though to help the tone.
10. with a view to reducing the amount of stuff I have, I'm thinking of selling my practice amp and using an old peavey active stage monitor (which will do its proper job as a monitor at gigs) for occasional lower volume practice. other than it not being the greatest tone is there any reason not to do this ie will it knacker the monitor? cheers
11. Great cab at a bargain price and you'll never have to go to the gym again. You won't get more bass for your money. Have a bump.
12. my first bass was one of these in red. Have a bump on me.
13. I agree too. none of the cash would have been raised if you hadn't started it. Very glad to have taken part and met some nice people and heard some good music on the way.
14. my point was more that in 20 to 30 years the names haven't changed much at all certainly about 7 would be mainstays harris lee butler burton etc. I was just surprised there hadn't been more variation and younger players coming in.
15. I saw this on Facebook today. http://metalhammer.teamrock.com/news/2015-01-30/steve-harris-voted-world-s-greatest-bassist I have no problem with the result as I wanted to be Steve Harris 25 years ago when I got my first bass. What surprises me though is that this list could have been published in the early 90s when I was a regular reader. The only exceptions being paul gray and jaco (not metal enough) wouldn't have got a mention back then. Have no noteworthy rock/metal bass players come though or is it always the legends that will top these lists?
16. This thread has spawned a couple of gigs between The Angry Badgers and Black Dog Company. If you are in the Bristol or Bath area please come and see us at the Louisiana this Sunday 1st Feb or St James Wine Vaults 14th March. You've liked the fb pages now come and see the bands!
17.
This would a hundred times better!
no reason we couldn't do both. There sounds a fair few people wanting to do exeter already but could do a brizzle one too.
18. I'd be up for something if it is up Bristol way.
19. Best value bad out there by a mile. Had mine 20 plus years and it's add good as any fender Gibson or stingray I've had. hope you enjoy it.
20.
Did they make any worthy basses in 1989? Am I stuck with hunting out mundane instruments? Was this a fallow period for Fender or are they, and myself by proxy, not considered vintage yet?
it makes me feel old when people claim 80s guitars are vintage but I guess they have a point. the main difference as I see it with 80s basses and mid 70s was that serial numbers are in much better shape in the 80s. With the exception of the big brands (fender gibson ric etc) 1975 seems to be tricky for accurate dating of the makes which have been suggested to me here, ibanez greco shergold etc where as I'd guess there is more choice of more consistant quality and accuatly datable in 1989. Anything from a wal to a westone depending on your budget.
21. I had a j style one recently and that was active. I think the hb one could be either
22. I'll try and sort something out. I've not had any takers yet but I've had a busy week this week. I'll try and do some stops pming this weekend and see what happens. I'm just waiting on my fund raising stuff from cancer research too. Any one who want to get involved just drop me a pm. Cheers Steve
23. That's a decision for James. I just fancied the idea of getting a few of the band together to top up the fund if we can.
24. Nothing to stop another one North of the border!
25. When I dropped the baton off to Steve aka Skidder652003 I thought it would be nice if a few of the bands who have been involved in the relay could get together to for a charity gig to raise some more money for the fund. I have pm'd Jimryan who is happy especially if it is February to mark the 2nd anniversary of the relay. I am happy to look into organising something and have pm'd a few people who have been involved, and emailed Cancer Research UK for any support they can provide, but I would love to hear from any bands, specifically those who have used the Purple one, who would like to play. Details are light at the moments as it is very early stages, but sometime in Feb and hopefully in or within a commutable distance of Bristol. Let me know if you would like to be involved, I know if 2 or 3 bands already but it would be great to get at least a couple more. Cheers Steve
