1. The JPJ link is tenuous and only hinted at. Looks kind of reminiscent of something Hugh Manson *might* make, but if it was I'm pretty sure they'd be a logo on it.
2.
Wikipedia, the holder of all truths, disagrees with this story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanker_Phelge
Perhaps Keef got it wrong in his book - or maybe I misunderstood that bit
3. This could be a good upgrade for anyone with a Squier bronco bass. I've used similar pickups to replace the stock ones in a couple of early 70s Fender musicmaster basses. My favourite is a Kent Armstrong enclosed cool rails which is in my daphne blue musicmaster - looks original but sounds punchy and deep. The exposed hot rails in the other one (my daughter's lilac musicmaster) looks fairly similar to this one and is still a great improvement on the original pickup, but a bit more rickenbackery.
4. If I saw someone gigging a bass with a stock sticker on it, I'd probably think it was their birthday and they've just unwrapped it, or they've borrowed the bass from a shop. If I was looking a secondhand one the presence of the sticker wouldn't make it worth any more to me.
5. I prefer a standard BBOT on a Precision and a high-mass type (such as a Badass) on a jazz. Not 100& certain why, but I'm guessing the sustain is not as good with a BBOT particularly in the lower frequencies, so the attack seems like it has more - er - attack which is what you want from a precision more than a jazz. ...Of course that could be complete cack.
6. Jagger/Richards and the rest of the stones get nothing (yes not a bean) from any stones material recorded before 1971 as they had a UK company called Nanker Phelge that royalties were paid onto before being passed onto the individual band members. Their manager at the time then got them to sign a contract transferring all payments and future earnings for everything written so far to a company called Nanker Phelge US. They assumed that this was a US subsidiary of their existing company, but it wasn't and was actually 100% owned by the manager - it seems they were robbed with a fountain pen.
7. Kent Armstrong or Wizard could probably rewind/rebuild the existing one or maybe make something new to fit.
8.
I'm not sure what you're suggesting, but the graining on the headstock is quite different. Definitely not the same bass! Whoops, just noticed the skunk stripe too! So maybe it's the same bass with a new neck ?
Um yeah - I was not looking at the neck or pickguard
9.
iTS MILK AND COFFEE MIXED TOGETHER!
Nope - americano is espresso topped up with hot water
10. Interesting: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=134830
11.
Link doesn't work anymore so I'm guessing it's been pulled.
Awww - and before a chum of the seller came wading into the thread throwing his weight around and accusing everyone who'd commented of being as ignorant as he & the seller are and/or trying to get the price down to snag it for themselves at a knockdown price.
12. We're listed as "Rock" which is probably broad enough to cover what we do as most people seem to think think americana is a big cup of black coffee.

14. From the pic, I'm not sure what that is, but the neck *looks like* it came from a squier with stuck on pearlyblocks & logo. It looks like the stacked knobs are the type that Fender put on some active Jazzes & are available as parts from various ebay sellers. The cheapo tuners are about as wonky as I've ever seen.
15. Whatever you do, don't waste your money one this one http://www.wunjoguitars.com/shop/bass/fend...usicmaster-bass The new Squier jaguar short scales are very cool - how about one in each colour?
16.
i found a behringer EQ pedal but have been advised that Behringer are not reliable.
was the advise about behringer based on personal experience? Behringer pedals are cheap & cheerful, but I've never had any problems with mine. Their bass limiter is my only must-use pedal.
17. brandoni sell it in squares for DIY pickguards - I made a couple of White pearl ones when I was doing up a couple of the kids' instruments. I don't think it's listed on the website, but give them a call: http://www.brandoniguitars.co.uk/contact.asp
18. Yeah I agree. All musicians are tossers. The only 'pure' form of entertainment is Karaoke.
19. I played a Squier VM short scale jaguar in candyapple red yesterday. They are about £190ish (except in Denmark street). If I had any money, I'd get one.
20.
I'd also take exception to the description "They're lightweight" - mine weighs a ton!!!
Yours possibly has a body made out of Heavy Northern "baseball bat" Ash - one of CBS's cost-cutting measures as it was cheaper than the lightweight swamp ash. My S8 serial Precision (actually made in 1981) is made of this. I used to lend it to the Royal Navy to use as an anchor for an aircraft carrier.
21.
Brian (the boss, Scottish chap) always seemed a really genuine guy, sold some stuff for me, some on comission and some a straight sale and he was a pleasure to deal with. If you are confident in your judgement (sorry, not for one second doubting you) give him a call and tell him your concerns - and tell him abouot his good reputation on here! Cheers, Mike
I've told the Australian chap there - he can pass the info onto the boss if he thinks its important - The conversation stayed friendly, but I wasn't sure whether he was genuinely taking what I was saying on-board, bluffing ignorance whilst knowing it was an overpriced ringer, or humouring me.
22. I always thought of Wunjo as the "good guys" of Denmark street. I popped in for a browse today as I was in the area & fell in love with a candy apple red squier jaguar short scale which was lovely in every way except for the "Special Denmark Street Markup" price. Looking at the other shorties on display a bass labeled as a 1978 musicmaster priced at £795 jumped out at me, but for the wrong reasons. Where do I start with this? http://www.wunjoguitars.com/shop/bass/fend...usicmaster-bass Lets see: Neck & fingerboard looked OK except for Badly cracked & glued together headstock Aftermarket (possible Gotoh?) tuners Truss rod adjustment looked a bit weird - possibly drilled out or could be allen key adjustment - didn't seem to be the cross shape I expected to see. Everything else - body/pickup/bridge/single-ply pickguard etc appears to be from a cheapo torino red squier bronco except for a pair of grotty old amp knobs I asked the salesman whether it had the correct price/description card on it, politely pointed out why I believed a mistake had been made in the description & suggested that they look into it and amend accordingly. I'd hate to think that someone might buy it thinking its an all-original vintage bass as its from a reputable shop, but I wonder whether it'll still be offered as a genuine original one in a weeks time.
23. Ah! the old "I am not a guitar player and know next to nothing about these things" ruse. At least it wasn't claimed to have been found in an uncle's loft. Of course its a fake.
