My Fenders

Beautiful Fenders!
2. I'm using a Sadowsky DI box with a 1975 Jazz. It's fantastic. Bass can be a little overpowering, so I use the bass & treble in moderation. They are boost only. Really brings the jazz alive. Solidly built, although I've had to tape the power supply in, it falls out too easily. Nice bit of kit, recommended. I don't use it with my warwicks though.
3. Remember my £500 Ken Smith? It does happen!
4. Duh! Sorry - believe it or not, that's what I meant. Dominant 7th.
5. Wow - thanks for this. I'm working my way through your answer right now. Question about C mixolydian - should there not be an augmented 4th? ie. F# ?
6. It is quite flat Rich, which normally I'm not wild about. I can make exceptions, though! You have PM.
7. Anything by the Smiths or Morrissey. Heard a vile cover of a Smiths number by Muse - horrendous!
8. Hi all I've finally started properly learning the modes (and not just patterns), which is something I've been meaning to do for a few years now. I'm not a confident soloist (in a jazz sense, not solo bass a la Steve Lawson) and I'm sure knowing my modes inside out will help me. I'm in the process of learning them, but it's the application in a musical sense that's confounding me somewhat. I'm aware certain modes are most appropriate over certain chords (e.g. Maj7th, M7b5 etc) although I'm aware this can be slightly subjective, depending on the style of music. Can anyone give me some nice clear help on real life application of modes for soloing please? I would be very grateful. I know it's quite a broad question...I've done quite a bit of research online but haven't found much that clearly speaks to me. Using Cubase I've recorded some basic bass and drums in C, and over the top I have several comping piano tracks playing in C7, Cmaj7, Cm7, Cm7b5 and the rest. I just solo whatever track I want to practice a certain mode on. I've been using modes appropriate to each (e.g. Dorian/Aolian in Cm7) and it sounds "ok" but not brilliant. Any and all help appreciated! Regards, Mike
9. Lovely. Really nice pickguard as well. What's the design/colour called? Congrats!
10. How about investing in a baffle to go between you and drums to separate the sounds a little?
11. I'm interested in that funky stand you're using in the photos. Very snazzy!
12. Have you ever thought of changing the pups to, say the SD replacement vintage single coil, or a Darkstar for the Squire?
13. Oh, I'll get sound clips at some point.
14. Don't get me started on that relicing thread! Thanks for the comments. I'm delighted with it. I need to replace the volume module, which will have to be ordered from Ken Smith himself. Sent a detailed and polite email, to a response of "phone the workshop". Sigh! If anyone can guess what I paid for it, they can have it for nothing!* Regards Mike *This might be a lie
15. Okay, well, despite not wanting this to turn into a "why would you do something like that" thread, it sort of has. The situation is this: I have a few basses which I use as my main tools - 75 Jazz, Warwick Streamer Stg I, forthcoming Shuker, now a Ken Smith BT6. The Sting is a bit of fun that I have - it's a one trick pony (though a very nice trick) and it's been snazzed up with a new pickup, pickguard and chrome covers. I just thought I might get it looking old too. I'm not obsessed with it - I have two vintage fenders, both naturally distressed, so I could get my kicks from them. It was just a bit of a project I was thinking of. Thanks for your input. Appreciate the PMs and posts with info - much obliged. Mike
16. Maybe it's there so you can implant an emergency volume boost, in case of bothersome guitarists.
17. Lovely stuff, I really dig these basses!
18. Hi everyone. I came across this on Sunday evening, made the guy an offer and now it's mine. Suffice to say I got an absolute steal. It was completely filthy, so I spent a goodly amount of time cleaning it up. It's seen some serious playing time, which I quite like, to be honest. I'd probably prefer a bass with a lot of history than a pristine new one. Without futher ado - pics. It's sounding and playing like a dream. Very pleased I have it. Regards Mike
19. I do like a PJ. Very nice, very clean cut. Congrats! Since 92, eh? That's some restraint, right there.

21. I gig regularly but I don't think you're less of a musician if you don't.
22. Thanks for the input. I'm aware this is a controversial move for a lot of people, which is why I was trying to avoid a "should I relic my bass" thread. It was just a passing whim, I doubt I'll do it, I just love the look of the aged P. Regards Mike
