I own a 424 and a P bass and I really wouldn't say the Yamaha is a darker sounding bass. Rotosound is one of the clankiest brightest strings ever! Massively aggressive (I think more high mids than airy treble). I've had flats on the 424 until recently (they got moved to the P) and I've put D'addaro XLs on and they sound fantastic.
If you want very bright, but a nice sweet Treble then DR High Beams are the string.
+1 my favourite is the 3 leaf Enabler! I used one as a preamp for a while with a powered Bergantino IP112, fantastic sound. It's clean but has an organic warmth. I used it on a national tour and the sound engineer loved it. I very recentky got another, as Its also the best headphone amp I've ever had.
Others I've owned/loved are
EBS microbass2 - had this three times! Loads of useful features (headphone amp/Effects loop/AB switcher) as well as a lovely overdrive. The latest version incorporates a compressor and I think a tuner.
Tech 21 VT bass DI - great sounding PRE/DI does warm/clean as well as the Ampeg ish tube tones into distortion if wanted.
Precision past and present!
Only ever had four.
1- 2003 CIJ 62 precision in Fiesta Red -w chromes
2- Squier CV 5 string in sunburst w Labella LTF
3- 2013 Nate Mendel sig CAR with Aguilar 60s pickup and hipshot vintage bridge - W TI's
4 - current 2009 Highway one in classy black ,with a limelight tort guard - W EB cobalt flats
This is standard on a USA Fender Highway 1 so will Likely fit,USA,MIM (Nate Mendel, roadworn etc)not sure about Squier or
3 ply and in good condition! Note- it is more of a cream colour in the flesh, than the photos show.

I always thought it was Anthony because of the flange. But Will Lee used chorus/flange a lot in his 70s recordings. I'm a huge fan of Will and im still trying to recreate his tone on Randy Crawford's "I hope you'll be very unhappy without me" beautiful singing tone. Nearest I've got was the flanger setting on my old EBS unichorus.
I read an interview with Will, where he mentioned Willie Weeks contacted him,to talk through the use of effects. Willie Weeks flanged/choruses Bass work, was also features on Chaka Khan records.
Anthony's tone on "Clouds" though 😍😍😍
Bass on "I'm every Woman" was Will Lee. As I recall he used a rackmounted MXR doubler/delay set for a flanger setting. Absolutely awesome sound, I'm still chasing it myself😁
