1. This gets my vote (closely followed by Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody), absolutely nailed here:
2. I think it's pretty clear from what Nile Rodgers says at 1:23 in this clip, that Bernard wasn't bothered about new strings. http://youtu.be/s4VfG0oFe3k
3.
I was thinking about that but I have to find an Eden 2x10 cab first & I'm on the isle of Wight so I couldn't collect it, Shame though, my Ken Smith running through one of these into an Eden 4x10 is pure heaven,, Al
Ah, glad to see my old AH600SMX is still going strong! I remember driving down to Pompey early one morning to drop it off for you. How long ago was that?
4. Bought Nick's 3-Leaf Grooveregulator - arrived very quickly in superb condition. Great communication, fantastic to deal with. Julian
5. The Bass Player article on Le Freak a few years ago had Nile Rodgers confirming that, for that particular recording, Bernard plugged his Stingray directly into the board. There's also a video clip on YouTube where Nile confirms that during an interview in their prime the journalist asked Bernard: "Bernard, you have that fantastic sound - what kind of strings do you use?" To which Bernard replied: "I dunno - what kind of strings come on a Musicman?" He hadn't changed them since he bought it and just didn't care what type they were. So old flats or old round wounds....probably doesn't matter too much!
6. What is that contraption that Stevie is playing?
7. Some occasionally ropey vocals, but East, Hakim and Rodgers sound pretty good, with what appears to be James May on the keyboard. Judging by all the smiles on their faces, a good time was had by all. http://youtu.be/SJn64kkpOSc
8. In no particular order: Rutger Gunnarson Bernard Edwards John Taylor Duff McKagen Flea Timmy C Pino Palladino Lenny Kravitz Alex James James Jamerson
9. Come Up and Make Me Smile - Steve Harley. This was the exit music as we walked out.
10. Get Lucky features Nathan East on bass and Omar Hakim on drums, according to Wikipedia...
11. Popped into Wunjo yesterday. WOW. What great blokes. What fantastic service! They were quite happy for me to noodle around on a Musicman Stingray Classic even though I made it clear I had no money to buy it. TiM was happy to knock £200 off the price even so.....shame I had no money! Highly recommended if heading for London - I will be going back!
12. What's The Frequency Kenneth? has a very nice bassline. A great melodic line...perfect for those a few months into their bass playing.
13. Most of them I can get through, but Stockholm Syndrome, played fingerstyle, is beyond me. Just that little bit too quick - suppose I should knuckle-down and practice it.
14. I have a pdf of a spot-on transcription for Slade...
15. For my money, Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody is hard to beat. A great stomping bassline from Jim Lea! (If anyone wants a copy of a spot-on transcription, PM me - I have it from an old magazine) Closely followed by the bass line to Wham's Last Christmas - I assume played by Deon Estus? Just a nice, nice bass line.
16. Ooh, found a bit more of Bernie playing live on his P-bass...shame there's no close-ups of his "chucking" technique...
17. It was just an excuse to post a very rare live clip of Chic playing in the 70's to be honest. But this is the clincher for me anyway...
