1. I'm looking forward to this album. Although the recent Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape plan releases have set a benchmark for my ears and Gojira's release earlier this year is still getting heavy play on my morning runs.
2.
Steve Harris is, also, the main reason I started playing bass.. And this is my go to bass:
No I'm not jealous at all!!! Lovely!
3. It was The Sisters of Mercy for me at 16.
4. I read this thread with interest, as when I started on five strings I was a bit underwhelmed by the B string, subsequently, I have started plucking the B string with my thumb resting on the bridge pick up rather than the neck pick up which is my usual anchor point. It might just be me, but I find this gives the string a better feel and allow me to dig in that little bit more without flop.
5. Hell yeah! Really enjoyed it. Great groove and very catchy. Good work, you must be very stoked!
6. Not my kind of music at all, but I've got to say I really got into it. The video was clever and I think someone else on here mentioned a Verve vibe - which I agree with.
7. Hey! I really enjoyed watching that! Thanks. Great to see you enjoying yourself. After all, it's meant to be fun isn't it? She Sells Sanctuary was one of the first bass lines I learned many many years ago. In fact knowing that and Rain got me a slot in my first band. You should be stoked with your progress....keep at it!
8.
Cliff burton Jason newsted Justin Chancellor Steve Harris Alex Webster
A couple of minor tweaks to the above covers it for me... good call tho Megallica,
9.
Edit: Sorry Kendall...!
gah! My eyes! Look at that smirk......
10. Yeah but Bluejay - Jools is still there!
11. I look forward to this dropping through my door, this month, the dog has savaged it. I was initially annoyed and then realised Jools Holland is on the cover. Doggie got a reward for defacing it. Jools on the cover - really?
12. Hi there. You could always try this. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/squier-deluxe-jazz-bass-v-active-black/31221?gclid=COH05aPR2csCFdW4Gwod6uEKug I have small hands and found this a comfortable neck to play after playing 4 string Aria's with slim necks. The neck is wide but slim and comfortable. Sound and build quality excellent for the price, especially if you don't want to invest too much cash in your first fiver. This has become my go to bass lately over the Fender 5er that I have.
13. There is also Stone Sour - House of Gold and Bones parts 1 & 2. Which to be honest I thought were utter sh*te.
14.
A very underrated and often overlooked album. One of the very few albums that I have to play from beginning to end without skipping any tracks. It's a real emotional roller coaster; starting with beauty and sensitivity (Shine), through anger and devastation (Venus decomposing) and ending with the conflicting emotions felt by a betrayed father in Zoon (Wakeworld). I suppose it had two big problems; firstly it was impossible to pigeon hole - was it goth, death metal, or something else completely? And secondly it was certainly not Elizium part 2. Whatever label you want to put on it, it's a great album and, getting back to the "concept album" topic of the thread, a great piece of story telling.
Glad I'm not the only one who loves this album. Although these days people find it more palatable than when it was first released.
15. 9/10 - Got number 7 wrong. Overall I am pleased. \m/
16. Last gig I went to was Slayer supported by Anthrax. Both bands were amazing. Slayer were, basically Slayer but their new guitarist Gary Holt exceeded himself with his energy and chops. I also liked his Kill The Kardashians T-Shirt. Anthrax were also pretty good, Frank Bello gave a masterclass in metal bass playing - energy, presence and thumping fingerstyle goodness. All in all a top night out. Even Mrs Kendall enjoyed the gig, despite being more of a soul girl than a rock chick!
17. steven Wilson - hand cannot erase The Nefilim - Zoon
18. Top stuff. Great sound and energy from all. Your vocalist was a good find too. @Wolverinebass. Seeing Tesseract on Friday? I am jealous.
19. I also liked it. Found myself wanting to play along. Good stuff.
20. I have an Ashdown Chorus Plus. It's nothing special, looks better than it sounds. Just started using the chorus effect on a Peavey Vypyr VIP and it's much better.
21. https://www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/comments/2q6cw0/gojira_fx_avoid/ Appears that they have been offering this level of service for a few years. A friend of mine had issues with them - best avoided. Get money back don't wait for pedal is my advice.
22. For me the album that comes to mind first is The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland Followed by these in no particular order: Fields of the Nephilim - The Nephilim Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman The Cult - Love
23. https://www.youtube....h?v=IuezNswtRfo The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection. Simple but effective. Always loved this, one of the first bass lines I learnt.
24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wH2umxtA_sc Reubens effort - the best Xmas Number one that never was. I give you Christmas is Awesome.
