1. What i've loved this year: - Lamb of God - VII Sturm Und Drang - 36 Crazy Fists - Time and Trauma - Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls - Slayer - Repentless - Tesseract - Polaris - Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase Best release for me. - Hawk Eyes - Everything is Fine
2. If you want to buy new: A few options here over and above the Ibanez GSR200 which is a good bass for the money: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/esp-ltd-b-50-blk-black/2026 - a tad over your budget by £8 http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Peavey-Milestone-Bass-Guitar-Vintage-Burst/WU4 http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=13102110282527 personally I would go down the pre-owned route. However, If I had to chose I would go for the LTD at £208.
3. Used PMT Bham many times. Always found them very helpful. They made a mistake on my first order. They resolved it quickly and did a little upgrade and a free set of strings of my choice as an apology. I rate them.
4. Slayer & Anthrax in Bham on 27 November
5. Halfman Half Biscuit - 99% of Gargoyles Look Like Bob Todd
6. I bought it, despite The Final Frontier and A Matter of Life and Death being a bit boring. I'm pleasantly surprised. I do like the new single, it's a bit of a stomper and great on a morning run. Some songs are a bit too long - Empire of the Clouds for example! But overall, best thing they've done since 7th Son in my humble opinion.
7. Tool - Lateralus takes some beating. Not technically very difficult, but getting the groove to flow in so many ways is a challenge I have not yet achieved.
8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsmcDLDw9iw Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast. This did it for me. I was about 10 years old and when I saw it, my mind was made up. Grow hair, get a guitar and be like Steve Harris. I did grow my hair, I did get a bass. I have never been like Steve Harris. Bruce's scream at the start of the song, those guitar solos and the imagery still work for me.....scared my parents at the time as Iron Maiden posters started appearing in my bedroom. Happy days.
9. Spent more time with the X2 last night. Recording a loop at half speed then taking it off and playing back at normal speed makes for easier super fast bass lines. Totally cheating, but fun anyway. The additional switch is a bonus.
10. Well, opened the Ditto X2 box yesterday afternoon. Not read the instruction manual yet (typical bloke I guess) but straight away, I was looping and making an unholy racket. Awesome bit of kit and so intuitive. Wife is working a late shift tonight, so will have more play time. But first impressions, simple, easy to use and well made.
11. Ah interesting. My wife has bought me a Ditto X2 for my birthday. I did a lot of research and spoke to a few people, the Ditto's seemed to strike the right balance between cost and functions. Shame I've got to wait until Sunday for it.
12.
A +1 for 'Wake up Dead', lovely moshing groove on that one... On the ST front. First time I saw them was at 'Clash of The Titans' in Wembley (Slayer, Megadeth, Testament and ST) last time was at Colchester Arts Centre (basically a converted church.) I was having a pre-gig beer with a mate in Colchester High St, when 'Mad Mike' Muir wanders past with a Marks and Spencer carrier bag in each hand. It was possibly one of the most incongruous things I've ever seen. LA skater, hardcore, guru just nipping into M&S for some sarnies and pants...
Classic! Rust In Peace is a great Album, But Peace Sells does it for me. My Last Words is a favourite.
13.
Yes, anything by this lot. My Daughter was into them big time when she was 14-15.. luckily for me she is over it now. I'd start to get aggressive and angry when I heard him start to scream or shout
I saw these supporting Machine Head a few years back. I quite liked them. Lots of energy.
14. That sir - is a thing of beauty - I am envious!
15. Lucretia MyReflection by Sisters of Mercy and Rain by the Cult.
16. Great thanks - makes sense now! Appreciate prompt response.
17. Hello - I have an Active bass that is always plugged into the active socket on my amp. Last night, I played it through the active/passive socket for no reason other than I had left the cable in that socket having been noodling on a passive bass beforehand. I was quite surprised at what a difference in output it made to my bass. The sound was a lot brighter. I guess my question is what do the sockets actually do to make my active bass sound so different? I am sure it's a daft question, but I was quite taken with the 'improved' tone and wonder why I would bother using the active socket at all now? Hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance
18. I couldn't get over the state of Steven Adler from GNr.
19. Hawk Eyes are worth a look. Quite an eclectic sound to them. Plenty of hooks, and time sig changes a la Dillinger Escape Plan. On a non UK front - 36 Crazy Fists new album is pretty good.
20.
I actually have the opposite issue... I'm fine on bass after years of playing but when I occasionally play guitar the strings cut in like cheese wire.
Exactly this.
21. [sup]I'm not a fan of the Beatles or Paul - however, Come Together has a sublime bass line.[/sup]
22.
Sisters of Mercy, 1959?
We have a winner - correct. It's from Floodland my all time favourite album. Over to you sir!
23. Close but no cigar - the clue. He wore dark sunglasses and despite never being in a Mission, he showed mercy to his female relatives.
24. When I got back into playing after quite a few years off. I picked up an Ibby GSR200 as I didn't want to spend much. I was amazed at the sounds and quality of an entry level instrument. On reflection, I wish I hadn't sold it. Nice and easy to play, good sound for a cheapy.
