1. The advantage with SBL is being able to have the same lesson repeated and you can move from tutorial to tutorial depending upon what you want to learn. Also you can log-in when you like in the comfort of your own home or from any suitable location. You can also login for live events, and talk to tutors who are normally well known bass players. The option to try before you by is a bonus and personally I like Scott's style of teaching.
2. I have used valves in hi-fi applications and tube dampers are a good bet if you like the sound of the valves you are using. Try searching the internet or companies like Watford Valves.
3. Welcome Barking Spiders. Leigh Gorman no, but I've heard of Dave Gorman.....
4. I have two basses a £400 and a £1000+. They sound different and play different with the more expensive having better playabiity out of the box, but one could not mimic the other sound wise, and yes the £1000+ plus luthier built model is worth the extra.... to me, to someone else I don't know?
5. Welcome Crippsy, I'm sure your ideas will come to fruition with the help of fellow chatters.
6. Now sold. Thanks to all those who viewed.
7. Hi have used both the Rotosound and Fender (7150) to good effect on my jazz. The Fenders where probably the more 'woody of the two and the Rotosound more harmonic.
8. If interested I have a Spector Legend 5 string that I am looking to move on.
9. There's an Ampeg PF350 at Absolute Music (as of last Friday) for £199 that might fit the bill.
10. Bought Tim's Ashdown Mi10's off him. He had them ready to test drive when I got there ad provided a welcome cup off coffee as well. Communication first class. Great guy to deal with.
11. Cracking bass, and I don' like P basses.
12. Welcome to Baschat Johnny
13. Treat yourself to an ACG, plenty of styles to choose from.
14. GHS Super Steels but may be in a larger gauge (.44, .63, .84, .106). Have a look at this link: http://www.shortscalebass.co.uk/short-scale-string-choice/
15. Have a look at this one? http://www.flightcasewarehouse.co.uk/manufacturer/product.asp?item=spider-electric-guitar-gig-bag-4843-6632
16. I have them on a short scale bass and find the tension and feel better than others I have tried. Sound really suits the bass which is a ACG Skelf short scale, should mean something if a luthier is supplying them as standard.
17. The reason I asked the short scale question is that Scott Whitley's SWB-1 is only 7lbs in weight has passive or active options and would be well under your target price. Plays better than many basses costing twice the price.
18. Hi Steve, Any particular reason for not wanting to go short scale?
19. Hi Tim try sorbothane feet available for various weights using 4 feet per unit. Foculpods are popular but you can get alternatives on evilbay. An alternative would be sobohane sheet.
20. Nice work Andy, this build is a true Beauty and the Beast build.
21. Hi Mike, On the bathroom scales it weighs 8.8lbs. BR Alan
