1. Hey, that sounds great! Keep us posted on your progress. I only recognise two of the songs though
2. tbh I don't know what most of that means. It won't cover all the niches mentioned above but the 'Metal Evolution' series tracks ...well, the evolution of metal music from the roots to fairly recently. Usually on Sky Arts.
3. so this is basically a lefty body fitted out for a right hander?
4. Had to google it to see what it is but it seems to have a USB and earphone socket. Assuming the USB is powered a set of PC speakers might do what you want, or is that too small on the volume/sound front? I expect an adult will be along in a mo' to advise properly
5.
it's brilliant how a lesson lifts you and gives you more impetus to go on, isn't it?
Yep, I look forward to mine everytime.
6. [sub]Surely if these pioneers are so great their technique is right and it's the rest of us who suck [/sub]
7. Really good. Another awesome lesson and a load more stuff to work on!
8. I prefer the full on ones rather than the acoustic only but do like the sound a lot, good work!!
9.
Autumn and Winter sessions being booked up now!
Definitely book some sessions with Dan! I’m not naturally musical but after some success on ‘guitar hero’ I decided to give a real bass a go; and you know what, it’s hard! I tried a few teach yourself books and but they never really made much sense to me. A few sessions on with Dan and I am really getting to understand the bass, where the sounds come from, the theory behind it and how it all works in music; importantly, all at my pace. If only music had been like this at school! Dan’s easy going teaching style works great for me, we have a laugh and I always leave with lots to study and a big fat enthusiasm injection. A brilliant, enthusiastic and un-assuming chap who is always genuinely pleased at your achievements. I really can’t recommend him enough.
10. I wonder if there are similiar threads on drum/guitar/keys/singer forums?
11. When I changed my strings I gave the whole thing a good clean with baby wipes (these will shift anything!); use your nail or other suitable implement behind the wipe to get into corners edges etc. Then wiped down with kitchen roll and left for a little while to ensure it was dry. Then gave it a spray over and wipe with GT85, teflon based aerosol lubricant stuff more likely associated with bikes / cars but left a good finish and nice smell (imo). Have given a once over with the GT85 since
12. [sup]Drummers seem to get a lot of sh*t and I'm not certain why (not been around any tbh). I had a go a few times and getting each limb to do something different is really really really hard if not impossible. Want 4 things all hit at once fine, Want that hit once, that twice and that thrice for evrey four bashes of that and it's quite a different story. (ok that would probably sound dreadful but you get the point). [/sup] [sup]So, why the derision?[/sup]
13. [sup]Depends where you are in your abilities tbh. For you guys who have played for years, have a high compotence, probably played many gigs on a similiar set, I can see why you don't want to do 4 rehearsals[/sup] [sup]For me, this would be a great oppurtunity I think, probably above my current ability tbh but if they were local and prepared to give me a shot, i'd do it. However, I suspect my skill level is insufficient for their requirements so my willingness would be moot. [/sup]
14. They seem to shuffle all my crib sheets too
15. Hey, that's great news, well done Dandelion
16.
Keep your bass on a stand or hanger, not in a case.
This. Mines hung on the wall at home, with the strap left on it. Easy to grab and do a few minutes. Example: On the nights I cook I just grab it while the spuds are cooking or whatever. Evenings it is stupidly hard to get away from the TV sometimes. I am also very fortunate at present in that my employer has just moved to a new office and I have claimed one of the small conference rooms for a lunchtime practice. With an hour for lunch I've no excuse really. In the summer I sat in a folding chair in the carpark and did it.
17. I'm gonna stick my oar in here. I'm newish to bass playing and would love to be at the point of being in a band and being able to play to an audience, the covers that many berate would be fab for starters. But how do you do that? How do you get a following if you can't play live? If you've not got a following how'd you get a gig, whether you are 'just another' covers band, probabbly harder as an originals band? All rhetorical questions really, I'm not asking for answers; but I can see why a new outfit would be willing to play for free or very little. Afterall you put the hours in to practice/rehearse but if you have no outlet for it what's the point. I see that as time progresses you would want and will be able to charge and this would increase with popularity. Maybe there are just too many bands at the start of this curve and the atrition rate is pretty bad so there is always a new band to fill the 'freeplay' spot?
18. Gogol Bordello - Gypsy Punks 'Underdog World Strike' album, currently on this track
19. going OT I know but it's hard to get a cup of coffee that isn't Nero, costa or starbucks. Can't even pop in tesco for a cheap brew and a bacon sarnie anymore as they're all bloddy costas too now. As for selling stuff, mostly I can't be arsed as it's just too much hassle for too little benefit. Tried to sell the kids old bikes that they've out grown. £25 each for good bikes. Few phone calls, one view, no sale. They can sit in the shed for a bit longer.
20. Firstly big respect to all who submitted!! I played all the tracks while looking at the picture and went with what felt right for what I was seeing. I realise that's somewhat subjective, but so is creating from the image...anyways vote cast.
21. day job all day, from there straight to another awesome lesson with BCs very own Dood just got to try and get brain and digits to sync properly and apply the teachings
