1. Should I be embarrassed that I don't know most of the people you lot are on about? I'll have to get educated! At the end of the day, for me, music is good or bad on how it feels to me, not if it's a particular genre etc. example, metallica and megadeth are always seen as being head to head (at least in the last century) but I love one and can take or leave the other. Why? I couldn't tell you but supposedly they're similiar bands.. Same as the likes of Zeppelin and early Whitesnake etc just don't click for me. couldn't say whether they're great musicians or not. Each to their own really, like what you like and let others enjoy the rubbish they listen to
2.
Fellow trad metalhead I assume? Good to know I'm not the only one left on planet Earth
Yep not the only one. I've not looked back since Rust in Peace
3. Marty Freidman for me. He did a solo album which showed him in a different pespective (the name escapes me but 'Scenes' maybe?) from his Megadeth stuff, almost kind of classical in places. That said the way He and Dave Mustaine trade lead roles during the same song on a lot of their stuff is fab, Tornado of Souls being a personal favourite!!
4. First two verses of 'Blessed are the Dead' by Megadeth. Also by Megadeth where Silent Scorn merges into Return to Hangar.
5.
Thanx for those. Seen the first one, earlier. They're almost the right idea but I hate those bookends! As for the plans, I hate DIY of any kind so that's out the game.
Maybe take the plans to someone who can build them into what you want then? The basic form is there, how much different can it be to do the same thing, the 'bookends could be whatever you want!
6. only one bass for me so far, a Stagg, and that was the cheapest one that cash converters had at the time. Few minor dings and it Sunburst with a white plate. Bought it to have a go at playing (it's my first ever instrument also) thinking i'll upgrade if i get into it and won't have lost much if I don't. Now into it!! would loe to upgrade but to be honest though, for the level I'm at, it does all it needs to do, gives me something to learn on. I'd much rather spend money on lessons and getting better than gear at the moment.
7.
Lessons from dood?! You'll be playing technical progressive death melody metal on a headless 7-string before you know it
I think we're covering that next lesson
8. Hi Iconic, I can definitely recommend Dood! Just started with him and he has really fired both my enthusiasm and desire to progress. Give him a call, you won't regret it i'm sure. Really nice guy too!
9. Approach it like job interviews, I always see these as a two way thing, them scoping you out and vice versa. if you can spare the time it's worth attending.
10. Why Crap? Depends on your target audience and whether you are any good or not I guess. Has a fairly broad range and would keep me entertained. wouldn't mind doing Brittany
11.
Far from being a shouty tattooed numpty, he came across as a perfectly splendid chap. Well-informed, widely travelled and possessed of a droll sense of humour which he frequently turned upon himself. Far funnier, in fact, than any stand-up de nos jours. Loud, yes, but witty, incisive and self-effacing. I was also mightily impressed that he did two and a half hours onstage without even pausing for a glass of water. Highly recommended, as long as you're not a supporter of the Republican party.
Absolutely spot on!!! Very very enjoyable evenings attending his spoken word tours. Rollins is one of the good guys.
12. this goes much further than cobalt DR Congo, and what I'll call the rest developing world, has a very different view on the value of life. it was on the news only the other night that some conflicts are intentionally targetting children ffs!! Understandably all anyone wants to do is get more and/or get out. Fast forward 50-100 years or whatever, where the the west have continued all this humanitarian aid etc and the power shift that is in motion at the moment will be far more advanced. The areas we worry about now will be major world players, our already greedy 'fat cats' will have shipped more work to these places as they pay less for the same thing (already happening!!), get big bonuses, and the corporations rule world affairs. We could be in the position of the people we are trying to help........ Will they really give a dam about us once they're living a better life? Unless someone can change human nature the world will carry on going through the changes of who calls the shots, there will always be someone who wants that bit more. All are created equal, but some are more equal than others (Orwell (more or less)) Does anyone really want equality? Another worm can here but women wanted equality with men. Most men and a good percentage of women who you speak to about this think it's bonkers, women had the better ride already! Or; maybe I read too much SciFi
13. Hiya Stag. That's most kind and sounds like an excellent idea
14.
Loads of good stuff and nice people here
Hi and thanks Leschirons. I believe you; I've been immersing myself in the Forum when I can, lots to read, over my head mostly but maybe some of it will stick
15. Thanks for the kind welcome Jacques! Not heard of the East Anglia Bass Bash, but would be good to meet some like minded folk, I'll go check out that thread. The legendary Dood....???? Only joking , I have been fortunate enough to meet Dan already, he would be the tuition I found, and he's only 10 minutes or so from me.
16. Hiya all. Nice place you've got here! Been messing about with a bass guitar for a couple of years intermittently but lacked direction and subsequently motivation resulting in stalling at very very basic level. Found this forum while looking for some tuition (which I did !!). The Forum seems to have a really good vibe about it from what I've seen so far. I suspect you'll see most of me in the off topic or wanting help section though..... perhaps see you about, cheers Steve
