1. Maybe the type-setters had an offer on exclamation marks this month, a type(!) of bog-off?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Still the odd typo, "Marenello " on p12 and "Maranello" on p42.... But much more importantly Warwick seem to have got their man/woman for the Sales Assistant Post (after 3 years?) and are now advertising for an Amp Developer. Look forward to seeing how long this one will run........
3. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Warwick-blackhawk-St...id=p3286.c0.m14 Could someone explain to me the point of a fat 'silent' humbucker....?
4.
Yes. I do want to add though that before this happened he seemed ok. He was quite helpful when we got there so not a complete dork as far as landlords go, but we wont work there again. I forgot to post about our Friday gig. Played a wedding at a golf club in south London. The groom had been a bit of a nightmare leading up to the event. Had certain demands written in to the contract, like telling us what to ware but also specifying that they had no responsibility to honour our demands like a changing room, food and drink. We also spent a lot of time learning some new songs that he "requested". We got to play them but didnt get a thank you from either the bride or groom, in fact they just walked off at the end of the night without saying good bye, thanks or even paying us We had to chase them down to get a cheque of them. The gig was good though. crowd up dancing the whole night and lots of nice compliments from them (other than from the bride and groom). So a long weekend, lots of hanging around as both weddings ran very late but its Monday, im now at work and can expect a nice restful, stress free week.
I always remind our Wedding clients that they pay us cash, and before we start our set: no-one has complained at our terms!
5. £500 for a chuffin Precision scratchplate (unshrunk)...?
6. What's a Sound Engineer? We mix our own....
7. Thought I recognised the Bass (and the photos I took!): it's a really very nice Bass and whilst you could sell it for whatever you want, I'm glad you're offering it for what you paid. Someone should be biting your arm off, just about now! So have a bump on me......
8. A coating of epoxy on the fingerboard will toughen it up: I'm sure if you Google it, something will come up? Didn't Jaco do something like that? Year ago I defretted a no-name P Bass copy, filled the slots with wood filler and brush varnished ( not lacquered) the neck and even kept the original roundwound strings. I never noticed any wear on the fretboard!
9. We played a Weddding the week before last, had a request to do 3 song choices from the happy couple who were fairly hammered by the time we started. Bride's name was Cherie so you can guess the first choice, also Wildwood by Paul Weller which we did as a bossa ( anything we get bored by we just do as a bossa!). Final host's choice was My Destiny by Lionel Richie so we enjoy Weddings on the whole as we get asked to do some material that we would not normally do. As people said before, we always have a bar and food rider which compensates for the fact that no-one really listens to the first set.... Funniest thing was a middle-aged couple were listening and dancing to the first set: the guy asked us for a request: "Miss Dynamite" which seemed a bit bizarre.
10. Sorted, got 2 from Rock Steady in Harrogate.
11. Those of you unfamiliar with my latest build can visit it here:http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=44625 However I have a slight problem as the SD pickups and tone circuit were attached to the wrong pots when I got them. I managed to obtain the correct pots from the USA but they did not come with washers or nuts. The only thing I can obtain over here whilst it fits, is the wrong thread so tightens a bit and then loosens right off resulting in wobbly knobs... Does anyone have 2 nuts and washers that will fit these US pots please? The shaft diameter is 0.35". I'll happily pay any costs incurred!
12.
It's a Triumph! Well, a Norton at least. Great job and tons of graft, no doubt. Are you going to become Yorks4stringer now?
How does Yorks14stringer sound? ( 5+5+4)!
13. 7lb 14 oz ,with most of the weight being at the bridge.... so it balances really well
14. Just to add tone wise, it sounds a little bit more toppy than my Jazzer with the SD soapbars. It actually has the SD Steve Bailey fretless tone circuit in and is 2 band, the Jazzer is 3 band and is not the Steve Bailey circuit..... It's really a backup Bass so I don't have to lug 2 big Basses to every gig: I'm even getting a little gig bag for it.
15. Thanks, but the camera hides a number of faux paux! Here's a few photos alongside my other Bass so you can see the difference in sizes.
16.
If you're talking about a rival to thomann as in cheap german musical instrument megastore then actually there is: http://www.musicstore.com/en_EN/EUR It's sort of the "urban" version as it's actually near the relative civilisation of munich unlike thomann which is in the middle of nowhere I was about to say that if you were really that desperate to get something that's only on sale in the US then there are companies who will buy products for you and have them shipped over even if the shop doesn't allow it. Sod grey imports and that, i mean it must be at least 9/10 nissan skylines that are imported using such methods from japan as they officially export very few to the UK.
Don't you mean Lakland Skylines?
17. This is now the Blue Peter Bass.....in other words I'm posting completed photos without showing any further steps. I've just got to the bottom of some electrical gremlins , it seems my faraday cage was too effective! Anyway it sounds very powerful and I think looks pretty cool too: the carbon fibre scratch plate and control cavity cover is actually lookalike foil.
18. Has anyone else seen the Warwick ad for a sales assistant in BGM? They seem to have been running it for at least 6 months if not longer, you would have thought they'd filled it by now or do they have some kind of Spinal Tap drummer thing going on?
19. Wonder if his son wants something more 'mainstream' now, like a Fender/Warwick/Gibson/Musicman etc etc?
20. We're bringing along a sax player too (basically cos we thought we may be drummerless, but now sorted). Will be our penultimate gig with Rebecca who is leaving us because she has been asked to donate her vocal chords to Madonna as all those ciggies have taken their toll. Whilst Rebecca will be speechless for the rest of her life, Madonna is giving her the previously adopted child as a new one has just been brought in..... NB All text in italics is totally untrue.
21. "Edited later: No intention to be sexist, but the Slider might actually a suit a well-endowed lady rather well as there is no strap passing diagonally across the front of the body. I've just remembered that the makers actually use a female model in the publicity photos, presumably for this reason." Yes, but I guess there may be a few Bassists out there with "Man-Boobs"......
22. This is interesting as whilst not wishing to tar all Spanish cops with the same brush.... A friend's 21 year old son went out to a spanish holiday resport last week for his birthday with a group of friends and his girlfriend. On the second night he got separated from his group so decided to walk back to the Hotel. He hadn't been in any trouble that night but admits he'd had a few. He was stopped by the Guardia Civil, who without warning pistol whipped him on his head, stole all his money and camera. They then panicked due to all the blood ( he has a pistol impression on his skull and a black eye) and took him to hospital where he got triaged to the front of the queue due to his injuries. His mother has had to arrange flights back for him (£300) and his girlfriend and because he was too scared to report it to the Police in Spain, it will be very difficult to claim anything back. He has subsequently had to go to hospital in this country to get checked up. He spoke to the T Cook rep in his report before he left for home and they said it was commonplace and happens all the time.......
23. "I have heard tell of a tax adviser being told by an HMRC call centre drone that they had been taught all about tax in a coupl of weeks and did not know what all the fuss was about - and then went on to give a wrong answer to a straight forward question " In a previous life a few years ago I set up a joint contact centre between the Council and HMRC and we remarked how long their training was, 14 full time weeks if I recall correctly.
24. I have the same combo as separates i.e. LMII and 2x10 Traveller. It is more than loud enough with a drummer, keys and 2 guitars band. In fact I had a 1x15 T cab which never got used so I sold it!
