1. Put it in the for sale forum. Stuff seems to be moving very slowly at the moment though due to everybody being skint!
2. You should first of all try patching them together using the fx loop out of the SWR to the fx loop return of the new amp. This would bypass the tone shaping preamp stage of the 2nd amp meaning and make it just amplify the SWR tone. This might not work though if the SWR FX loop is wired up in series. Another alternative is to take a lead from the tuner out of one amp into the input of the other. What I would do though is get a Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus pedal, and using a very subtle setting hook each side of the stereo output to a different amp, and put each amp on the opposite side of the stage. It will sound phat!
3. Filters sound better after fuzz IMHO, although you don't get quite the same precise control over the filter. Chorus works really well after this type of sound as can phasers and flangers. And delay! Might be worth pickng up a a second hand Zoom B2 multi fx or something so you can try out all of these fx and more.
4. Yeah, it's Timmy C in a box! There's some good clips of it in the Talkbass Wiki; I was gassing for one of these a while back, but now that my Pedaltrain is full, pedal GAS has been replaced by amp GAS!
5. All 3 of those are awesome pedals. I would jump on that Bluebeard if I didn't have a Supercollider Oscillating Beast on the way!
6. Ha, nice user name! Buy it! I've got one, awesome envelope filter.
7. Where are you based? Is this the 1153 model? If the answers are London and yes then I could be interested!

Overdrive?

Silent Fly, one thing that pishes me off about the Humphrey version is that it's way too loud and even with the level and gain controls set to 9 o'clock it's above unity volume. Is it the same with the stock one, or has Mr Humphrey added mega gain to it? How easy would it be to change a pot or resistor to alter the range of the level control (i.ie reduce the max volume anf give me more useable range)?
9. I liked the reverse step filter. Most of the others I found myself from similar tweaking, but that one was new to me!

Overdrive?

I have the Bad Monkey (Humphrey modded version). I don't like the sound of it too much soloed, but it sounds AMAZING with a full band, really makes the bass stand out in the mix. My drummer and guitarist GRIN when it comes on. I have considered swapping it for a Barber LTD SR which is a very transparent sounding OD, but then I saw the Barber B-Custom Cool which is able to do the LTD standard + SR tones plus take on heavier overdrive duties as well. These have just come out and I've not heard of any bass players using them apart from a few people raving about them on the official Barber forum. If I was buying an OD I would probably try one of these on a whim. The Polish Love pedal is getting a lot of hype on Talkbass, hand made real cheap by some guy in Poland. Can supposedly sound like a Cream Pie at low gain, but get quite crazy too. Cream Pies are discontinued, made by Tone Factor then Mojo Hand, which I think was just a rebrand so it's all the same company. Because they're hard to find and hyped up on the interwebs, they hold their value pretty well, you could probably pick one up for about £80. The DHA VT1 sounds amazing, but is a chunky box with a large 12v power supply - which may not be as much as an issue for you as it is for me (trying to squeeze as many 9v pedals onto a Pedaltrain Jr as I can!) I think the B:Assmaster is a bit too insane-in-the-membrane for what you're looking for... although I really want one of those too!
11. I really hope they get this right and produce a cheap alternative to the LMII!
12. If you haven't already, email Diago - I got an 18v adaptor a few weeks ago as they had some in even though the website said they were out of stock.
13. I just bought a Euphonic Audio iAmp 350 Combo from these forums. It's an ultra-clean amp that does not colour your sound, but has a flexible EQ and DI/headphone outputs etc. plus the head is removeable. 10" driver, but massive sound. I use it with a VT Bass pedal to produce a mini Ampeg like rig that I can also run synths and guitars into because of it's full range flat response. Just another idea for you if you hadn't considered it!
14. Tayste had a bunch of settings that he posted in a Talkbass thread. One thing I like to do is set the tap tempo on beats 1 and 4 of what you're playing which creates a nice rythm effect. Also I like to create a loop of a droned fuzz tone and then pitch shift it to play it like a synth!
15. I have a Sansamp VT Bass and recommend it. I also highly regard the DHA stuff, the VT1-EQ-Drive is a solid preamp with glorious tubey tone. Also gotta love the blood splatter paint job!
16. Nice price, but I wish you had the Philtre one for sale!
17. DHA tube pedals do low gain grit very nicely. I'd also suggest a Sansamp Bass Driver or VT Bass.
18. Hi Dave, I had a VT2 and one thing I did not like about it was the volume jump when engaging the 2nd valve stage. It would be much more useful to have either 2 separate channels that you can switch between, or just add a separate master volume control for 1+2 mode. It would also be great to have a switchable 5kHz low pass filter (i.e. speaker sim) on the DI and headphone outputs! I also preferred not to use the colour switch, and the clipping switch was very subtle - Si seemed to not affect the sound much, and Ge dropped the volume by a large amount. Personally I would prefer to not have these features and instead have a cleaner and more low-cost layout. Pokey-out-lightey-up valves are a great idea though! As long as they're well protected like on the EHX tube pedals.
19. I go like this: VT Bass -> Diamond Compressor -> Radial JDI (if going direct to PA) -> Amp FX Return socket I'm really happy with the sound I get out of this setup, it sounds the same wherever I go no matter what crappy amp I happen to be using. It's not really a good idea to plug a Sansamp BDDI or VT Bass into a regular amp input as the amp will impart it's own tone on the Sansamp signal. If you go into the FX return socket you bypass the amp's pre-amp and you will get 'your sound' going straight to the power amp stage. The sound coming from the amp will also closely match what is going through the PA.
20. You might wanna get a mod to move this post to the 'other musically related items' forum, you might get more responses...
21. I've gone in a slightly different direction, nabbing a Euphonic Audio iAmp 350 combo. This is a very hi-fi combo that would work well with bass or guitar, and is more like a transparent studio monitor than your typical amp - what you put in is what you get out. It can also power a separate cab for bigger gigs. The VT Bass is supposed to mimic a mic'ed up Ampeg rig and sounds great for recording or going direct - with this I should be able to recreate that tone in the practice room and on stage!
22. imuso have the 350 listed for £200... I really hope it's worth buying as I want but can't afford a MarkBass or Genz Benz and this looks like the next best thing. I need a small but powerful amp, and I dig the green giant logo!
23. I've just spotted the Ashdown Little Giant 350W head for £200 new... I'll do a bit more research first, but I might go with this unless I find a better option. I like the fact that I can sling this into the pocket of my gig bag as it only weighs 3kg, and it has line-in and an fx loop in case I want to try bypassing the pre-amp and using the VT Bass instead. Basically it's a poor man's Mark Bass! Then I can look for a cheapo cab from ebay or here and upgrade to a nicer one later on when I can afford something better. Sound like a plan? I hope these heads aren't rubbish, off I go to search for some reviews...
24. Hi there, I'm a long-time lurker of the FX forum, but now I seek some advice from you amp-heads... I've recently got hold of a VT Bass pedal which I'm using as a preamp. I don't have an amp at the moment, but would like to use this as my primary tone shaper, either plugging into the fx return of a combo amp (to bypass the onboard preamp) or going into a power amp and cab. I'm on a very tight budget and like the idea of separates so was thinking of going with the latter. I'd like it to be cheap, lightweight able to cope with small/medium gigs, and possibly have a wide enough freq response to be used with guitar also. So I was thinking of maybe a 1x15" cab with an adjustable tweeter, and a cheapo power amp like this: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/juice-800/68590 Would this be suitable? There's loads of cabs out there but it's hard making a choice. I've seen the Bergantino, Tech, Zoot, etc cabs but they all seem above my price range! I'd like to spend under £400 on both the amp and cab together (2nd hand if possible), any ideas or advice for me? What's the best bang for my buck?

Amp Simulators

I haven't heard from anyone using the other guitar oriented pedals in the character series on bass, but there's a good chance you'll lose some of your low frequencies. The DI is used for sending a balanced signal (which gives you better signal transmission and less noise ) to the PA when playing live, for practice I just plug the VT straight into a combo amp, bypassing the on-board pre by plugging into the fx return socket.
